Fortune Telling Live: Streaming from the Human Realm - Chapter 3 - The Uncanny Streamer
“You’re not suited for marriage.”
As An Rugu’s voice came through the microphone, Time Flows Like Water’s expression froze, her smile gradually fading.
Her sharp mind raced with numerous thoughts, anticipating various outcomes, but she never expected An Rugu to say something like this.
What did she mean by saying she wasn’t suited for marriage? Was she destined to grow old alone? How rude!
The audience was equally shocked, speculating about Time Flows Like Water’s reaction in the chat.
[Rich Lady: I was ready to get married, and you tell me my love life is doomed?]
[Rich Lady: Damn it, refund my money!]
Anyone in the throes of love would feel terrible upon hearing such blunt words, and might even curse the fortune teller to no end.
Fortunately, Time Flows Like Water had a high level of composure. She suppressed her smile, raised her eyebrows, and exuded an imposing aura: “Explain.”
If her subordinates were present, they would recognize this expression as a sign of her mild anger.
An Rugu, however, remained unfazed by her reaction. In a calm tone, she relayed the results of her fortune-telling: “It means exactly what it says. Your destiny pattern indicates a troubled marriage.”
Time Flows Like Water frowned upon hearing this. Being suddenly hit with such an ominous prediction made her feel uneasy, and she instinctively retorted, “I’ve consulted fortune tellers before. Why didn’t they mention this destiny pattern?”
After achieving success in her career, she had met many fellow business owners. The wealthier they were, the more superstitious they became. She had once followed the trend and consulted a fortune teller who was supposedly very skilled.
That fortune teller had told her she was destined for prosperity after enduring hardships, and that she would achieve her desires in both career and marriage. In short, their predictions about her marriage were completely opposite.
Facing her skepticism, An Rugu held her teacup, steam rising into the air and partially obscuring her eyes: “Fortune-telling is like answering questions. Sometimes it’s accurate, sometimes it’s not.”
Time Flows Like Water’s frown deepened, a tinge of displeasure growing in her heart. She no longer wanted to engage with An Rugu and glanced at the “End Call” button on her phone, ready to hang up.
As for the few hundred yuan she had paid… she would just consider it a charitable donation.
The dozens of viewers in the Live Streaming Room had been closely watching Time Flows Like Water’s reaction. Seeing her like this, they knew she was displeased.
[Top Donor is furious!]
[Let’s be honest, she just wanted to know her wedding date. The streamer could have just told her the auspicious day. Instead, she overcomplicated things and ruined her own business.]
[Streamer, maybe you should stick to singing. This kind of technical work isn’t for you.]
[By the way, is the streamer’s prediction even real?]
[Of course it’s fake. Look at how eager the rich lady is to escape single life. How could her love life be doomed?]
Just as Time Flows Like Water was about to end the call, a distant yet melodious voice reached her ears: “You were born at Zishi1, in a village surrounded by mountains. You have four older sisters and one younger brother. Your bond with your parents is weak, and you weren’t raised by them, correct?”
The audience was stunned. The rich lady had so many siblings?
[Four sisters and one brother? That can’t be true. The one-child policy was already in place in the ’80s.]
[Wait, look at the rich lady’s reaction!]
As An Rugu spoke, Time Flows Like Water’s hand froze mid-air, hovering over the screen. After a long pause, she withdrew her hand, her eyes filled with astonishment.
“…That’s right. My family was poor when I was young, so I was raised by my grandmother. As for the one-child policy, the village paid a few fines and then ignored it.”
She didn’t reveal the full details of her privacy. In truth, her parents had planned to give her away as a child bride, but her grandmother couldn’t bear it and took her in instead.
It had been a long time since she thought about her childhood, especially after her grandmother passed away. If An Rugu hadn’t brought it up, it almost felt like those memories belonged to someone else.
How did An Rugu know about her hometown?
Time Flows Like Water was lost in thought. She had left home many years ago and hadn’t kept in touch with anyone from her village. Even her closest friends didn’t know about her family background.
Then it occurred to her-she had built a successful career in Nan City and had been featured in some business magazines, earning a reputation as one of “Nan City’s Most Promising Female Entrepreneurs.”
Could An Rugu have known about her and investigated her hometown?
But she had only stumbled into the Live Streaming Room by chance today. Why would An Rugu go to such lengths to investigate someone she might never meet?
Before Time Flows Like Water could fully process An Rugu’s words, An Rugu added, “You originally had two younger brothers, twins. The older one died of an illness shortly after birth.”
Time Flows Like Water’s composure shattered, her face a mask of shock.
She had indeed had two younger brothers, but the eldest had died of lung disease shortly after birth because they couldn’t afford treatment.
In her hometown, the death of a child was considered an ill omen. After the child was buried, everyone kept it a secret. The villagers believed her mother had only given birth to one boy, and only her family knew the truth.
How did An Rugu even know such a deeply hidden detail?
This wasn’t something that could be uncovered through ordinary investigation.
Time Flows Like Water’s doubts vanished, replaced by sheer astonishment.
This streamer… seemed to have some real skills.
An Rugu continued, “You didn’t attend college and only have a high school diploma. After graduating, you came to Nan City and worked in the service industry. In 2010, you met a benefactor, which allowed you to rise in your career. Your Eight Characters include the slave palace, which in modern terms means you’re destined to be a boss.”
Time Flows Like Water now fully trusted An Rugu and eagerly nodded, sharing everything without hesitation: “I had good grades, but my parents didn’t want me to continue my education. They wanted me to go out and work. I saw many people heading south for jobs, so I followed. I’ve done it all-washing dishes, cleaning, serving tables. In 2010, beauty salons weren’t very common yet. I saved up some money and, together with a partner, opened the first beauty salon in the area. My partner had great connections, and thanks to her, the salon grew bigger and bigger.”
[So the rich lady owns a beauty salon. No wonder she looks so well-maintained.]
[Her family sounds both poor and sexist. Why would they make her drop out when she had good grades?]
[Maybe they thought they had a royal throne to inherit.]
Time Flows Like Water glanced at the comments and realized what she had just revealed. She didn’t regret exposing her past, though, and spoke with a sense of acceptance: “I knew their character, so I became independent early on.”
Her parents and brother had asked her for money before, but she never gave them any. That was her hard-earned money, and it had nothing to do with them.
As if struck by a thought, Time Flows Like Water looked at the elegant and refined An Rugu with curiosity. Her attitude shifted completely, and she even used polite language, treating the younger woman with respect: “Your reading was incredibly accurate. I’m convinced. Can you tell me why I’m not suited for marriage?”
An Rugu replied frankly, “Your destiny pattern is weak, with many conflicting elements in your Eight Characters. Your Spousal Palace is under strain, and you carry the lonely star, which means your romantic path will be fraught with difficulties. Even if you manage to marry, it’s unlikely to last. You’ve already been divorced once, haven’t you?”
Time Flows Like Water, now fully trusting An Rugu, nodded immediately: “In 2010, I married a man I met through a matchmaker. But as time went on, I lost feelings for him, and we parted ways amicably.”
[Wow, the rich lady is so bold, divorcing just like that. Not everyone has that kind of courage.]
[She divorced because she lost feelings? Is she a Pure Love Warrior?]
Time Flows Like Water caught sight of these comments and chuckled softly: “What’s a Pure Love Warrior? Honestly, I just like the feeling of being cared for. My ex-husband was one person before marriage and another after. He often gave me the cold shoulder, and I couldn’t take it anymore, so I had to leave.”
[Same, I also love the feeling of being cared for.]
[Is your new boyfriend treating you well? If not, give me a chance!]
Time Flows Like Water thought of her boyfriend and couldn’t help but smile, her face glowing with happiness: “He’s such a sweetheart. We’ve been together for two years, and he’s still as warm and attentive as when we first met.”
[I look at my boyfriend snoring like a dead pig next to me and can’t help but cry: I want a sweetheart too!]
[This is strange. The streamer said the rich lady’s romantic path is rocky. Will this sweetheart change after marriage like her ex-husband did?]
An Rugu saw this comment and her eyes flickered: “No.”
Time Flows Like Water stared at An Rugu, her curiosity piqued: “Then why?”
An Rugu: “Because he’s a-”
“Fraud.”
Time Flows Like Water: “???”
The audience: “???”
