For Your Happiness - Chapter 68 - Happiness Needs 2+1
In the early morning, bright sunlight streamed into the ward, and the quiet room was filled with the soft crying of an infant. This sound woke Shao Han and Wu Di from their sleep. Wu Di immediately got up to check on his little son.
“What’s wrong with him?” Shao Han asked.
“I… I don’t know,” Wu Di, feeling at a loss, quickly went to call the domestic helper from outside the ward.
“The little baby is hungry,” the experienced domestic helper informed Shao Han. “Mom needs to feed him now,” she said, looking at Shao Han.
“What? Oh.” Shao Han was still quite shy. As a new mom, although she had only read about feeding babies in books, actually doing it was a bit daunting for her.
“See if you have enough milk,” the domestic helper suggested, already holding the little baby to place him in Shao Han’s arms.
“See? How?” Shao Han was mortified, not wanting to check in front of the helper. Wu Di saw her expression and couldn’t help but laugh.
“You find this funny?” Shao Han reproached.
“Our new mom is from ancient times. She’s definitely feeling self-conscious with you here,” Wu Di bluntly stated Shao Han’s thoughts.
“Huh?” The domestic helper paused for a moment, then laughed, “Hehe, it’s rare to see new moms being this shy nowadays.”
“Yeah, just think of her as someone from ancient times,” Wu Di continued to laugh, watching Shao Han hesitate to unbutton her shirt to feed the baby.
“Should I leave and let you two try?” the domestic helper asked.
“Alright, hand the baby to me. If it really doesn’t work, I’ll call you,” Wu Di said, reaching out to take the baby.
Shao Han, with her head down, very slowly began to unbutton her shirt, waiting for the domestic helper to leave. The helper left with a smile, leaving the little family of three alone in the room. Wu Di held the baby and walked to her bedside.
“Come on, our son will starve if you don’t hurry,” Wu Di said, trying not to laugh at Shao Han.
“Annoying,” Shao Han took the baby and placed him against her chest, awkwardly attempting to follow the positions she had learned from books to feed the little life. She could finally look at him so closely.
Even though the baby kept his eyes closed, Shao Han could feel that those eyes would be incredibly beautiful when opened. Since birth, he hadn’t opened his eyes, not even when crying from hunger. Shao Han still didn’t know what color his eyes were.
“Wu Di, have you seen his eyes?”
“No, he’s been asleep, won’t show me.”
“I’m really curious to know what they look like,” Shao Han said, glancing up at Wu Di, who was intently watching the baby nurse. “He’s so lucky, enjoying my exclusive product in broad daylight.”
“You’re too much.” Shao Han laughed at his teasing.
“Yeah, I’m a bit jealous with how long he’s eating.”
“Goodness, he’s just a little baby. What are you thinking?”
“Is it tasty? I’ve never had it; I’d like to try too,” Wu Di jokingly asked the baby.
“Come on, how could you not have? Weren’t you an infant once too?” Shao Han remarked, amused that as a father, he still acted like a child.
“I was too young to remember. Let me reminisce about infancy,” Wu Di grinned, playfully pretending to be cute.
Shao Han was amused to the point of laughter, slightly disturbing the little one, who frowned with his eyes still closed.
“Oh no, our son is upset,” Shao Han observed, looking at the baby then to Wu Di.
“He’s adorable,” Shao Han attentively examined the little baby. The first time she saw him was in the operating room, and she hadn’t had a good look. Now, holding him close, the more she looked, the more she admired.
“Of course, he’s my son,” Wu Di said proudly.
“Hmph, our son resembles his mom.”
“Look at his eyebrows, they’re so much like mine. His nose too, and his mouth looks a lot like yours, ears as well,” Wu Di replied, having examined the baby countless times.
“Hehe, I can’t wait to see his eyes,” Shao Han smiled, gently stroking the baby’s head.
“Whether he looks like you or me, he’ll be beautiful. You love my eyes, and yours are big and always smiling. If he takes after you, he’ll be incredibly beautiful,” Wu Di said, looking up at Shao Han.
“Yeah, his hair is just like mine, so much of it. But… but it seems a little curly too,” Shao Han said, touching the baby’s hair.
“Indeed, haha, our baby has combined the best of both of us.”
“So tiny,” Shao Han felt sweetness in her heart.
“It’s amazing,” Wu Di marveled at the miracle of life.
“Oh, right,” Shao Han remembered how Wu Di managed to enter the operating room during the surgery, even though the hospital forbids it.
“What?”
“How did you get into the operating room?”
“Because I’m amazing.”
“Don’t joke, tell me how you did it,” Shao Han was extremely curious.
“Haven’t I mentioned what my mom does?”
“She’s a teacher.”
“Yes, she’s a teacher at the medical school. All of them were her students. Mr. Lin was one of her students when I was little, and we used to play together. I know most of the doctors here quite well. So, for a small favor like this, they were all willing to help.”
“I’m such a scatterbrain. I met you, married you, and now have given birth to our son, yet I still don’t know so many things about you. How many more secrets haven’t you told me?” Shao Han felt a bit frustrated.
“None, really. Some things don’t need to be said; when the time comes, I’ll tell you. You only need to know that I love you,” Wu Di replied casually.
“Not only that, I’ve organized a team at the hotel specifically to serve you and our son,” Wu Di had mobilized staff from the hotel’s food and beverage department to prepare nutritious meals for Shao Han, with purchasers on standby for any needs and two dedicated cleaning staff. Wu Di had temporarily enlisted everyone he could think of.
“You’re too much,” Shao Han laughed at him.
“Well, no matter how extravagant, I’m willing to do it for you and our son.”
Shao Han felt incredibly blessed, almost unable to believe this happiness. “Wu Di.”
“Yes?”
“Why does this life feel like a dream to me now?”
“Again with the dreaming? A year ago, when we first got together, you said it felt like a dream. At our wedding, you said it felt like a dream. Now, with our son, you still feel like you’re dreaming? Then…what is real?” Wu Di’s gaze was locked onto Shao Han’s, his eyes filled with unwavering certainty, as if instilling confidence in her.
“Hehe, it just feels so wonderful, so happy, that I…” Shao Han looked into his amber eyes.
“You want to say you’re afraid again, right?” Wu Di finished her thought.
“Silly, always talking about fears.” Wu Di gently stroked Shao Han’s hair. “It’s not a dream, my dear; it’s real. I’m Wu Di, who loves you the most, and you’re Wu Di’s most beloved. Now we have our love’s fruit. Holding him, can you not feel his reality?”
“Yeah, I… I’m just so happy it’s hard to believe,” Shao Han looked down at the infant in her arms. The little baby, tired from eating, had fallen asleep again.
“He’s done eating,” Shao Han informed Wu Di. “Asleep again. Why does he sleep so much? Could something be wrong since he won’t open his eyes?”
“Hey, don’t overthink it. I asked the doctor; newborns are like this,” Wu Di reassured her.
“Oh.” Watching the tiny life in her arms, Shao Han felt uncertain about how she would care for him as he grew. Life had presented her with a new challenge to tackle.
The setting sun cast golden rays over a quaint courtyard, with an elegant stone bridge and a small pond with colorful koi swimming beneath it. Ahead lay a small lawn, with a few osmanthus trees by the fence exuding a faint floral scent. On a rocking chair in the garden sat a father and son. The father, tall and composed, dressed in white, held a three-year-old boy, also in white, attentively listening to his father’s story. The boy’s long eyelashes fluttered, revealing lively dark brown eyes, set in a chubby face with fair skin, curiously gazing at his father.
Just then, the gate to the courtyard opened, and a young married woman in a white knit top and skirt, smiling warmly, walked towards them.
“Pipi!” called a gentle voice.
“Mommy!” The little boy jumped off his father’s lap and ran toward his mother.
“Hey, little rascal, every time you see Mommy, you just forget about me,” the mature man called out playfully from behind.
The little boy leaped into his mother’s arms, and the two of them laughed joyously together.
“You can’t leave me out. All three of us hug,” the man hurried over and wrapped his large arms around both the woman and the child. He kissed the beautiful woman on one side and the adorable child on the other, while the mother and child each kissed one of his cheeks, their laughter echoing joyfully.
