For Your Happiness - Chapter 65 - Are You Ready?
Since Shao Han has passed the reaction phase, she’s gradually been able to eat a lot of things. Her favorite is fish, which has put Wu Di’s mind at ease. Shao Han is careful about her diet, and everything is going smoothly. Everyone is relieved and looking forward to the arrival of the little life as they watch Shao Han’s belly grow.
Shao Han maintains a good mood every day. Wu Di accompanies her for walks, goes to the health center to learn prenatal exercises, and takes regular check-ups, performing the role of an excellent soon-to-be dad.
Every night, Wu Di tells stories to the baby, stories he makes up himself, yet he narrates them vividly, often making Shao Han burst into laughter.
“Son, look how happy your mom is. Are you happy too? Come on, let Dad know if you’re enjoying the story,” Wu Di says seriously to Shao Han’s belly.
“Hey, did your son tell you if he’s happy?” Shao Han teased him.
“Oh.” Wu Di glanced at Shao Han and then looked down, speaking to her belly again, “Son, if you’re happy, give Mom a little kick. Then Dad will know.”
“Ah! You’re so bad.” Shao Han slapped Wu Di lightly. “Making the baby kick me.”
“Otherwise, how would I know if he’s listening to me?”
At that moment, Shao Han’s belly indeed moved a little, with a small bump appearing on the left side.
“Ah!” Wu Di was amazed. Excitedly, he placed his large hand on the raised spot. “Shao Han, look.” Wu Di seemed to marvel at the miracle of life, feeling as if he was really interacting with it.
“Yes, I saw it.” Shao Han smiled, her heart throbbing with wonder at how miraculous it was.
The bump slowly subsided, and the belly returned to calm. The two of them watched, moved in their hearts.
“Guess what it is? Could it be his hand?” Wu Di gently asked Shao Han, speaking softly so as not to disturb the little babe.
“Haha, it’s probably his foot. He’s so small, his hand probably wouldn’t have such strength. I think it’s his little foot.”
“Mm, mm.”
At this time, Shao Han was over seven months pregnant. Her body had grown heavier due to the little baby’s growth, yet she remained nimble and hadn’t gained excessive weight. During this month’s prenatal checkup, the doctor said, “The fetus is in a breech position, let’s do this exercise.”
Hearing this startled both of them, making them nervous.
“Doctor, is it very serious?” Wu Di was the most anxious.
“Oh, don’t be so nervous. Do this exercise, and it should be fine in two weeks. The fetus is still small and can be corrected.”
“Oh, okay.” They felt a bit more at ease.
After that, Shao Han performed the exercises as instructed by the doctor every day, with Wu Di assisting her. Two weeks later, the fetal position was corrected smoothly, and they passed through the seventh month without any issues.
As Shao Han entered the later stages of pregnancy, her belly grew heavier, and she sometimes felt breathless while sleeping, always having to sleep on her side. Even turning over was difficult. Wu Di would assist her and, worrying that he might accidentally bump into her belly during sleep, often ended up sleeping tensely and uncomfortably. Sometimes, he would simply move to the sofa outside.
“Little baby, when are you going to come out?” Shao Han was getting impatient due to the hardship.
“Haha, just a little over ten days to go. Are you getting anxious, Mama?” Wu Di asked with a smile.
“Aren’t you anxious? Don’t you want to see him right away? I’m so curious!” Shao Han asked Wu Di excitedly while organizing the clothes and items for the little baby sent by relatives and friends.
“Curious, haha. My mom said I looked like a little monkey when I was born-wrinkled. Will our son be like that too?”
“No way, the doctor said my fetus is relatively large. Now I’m worried if it will be hard to deliver. I’ve heard it’s incredibly painful,” Shao Han said with a worried expression.
“Don’t worry, there will be ways to manage,” Wu Di comforted her. “But why are baby clothes so small? They look like little handkerchiefs.” Wu Di’s large hands appeared clumsy against the tiny clothes, making Shao Han giggle. Perhaps she laughed too hard, as the baby inside protested with a kick.
“Ouch,” Shao Han exclaimed.
“What happened?”
“Your son kicked me,” Shao Han pouted.
“Oh? Really? I’ll spank him,” Wu Di said as he playfully patted Shao Han’s belly.
“Hey, are you two teaming up to bully me? One kicking from inside and the other smacking from outside,” Shao Han protested.
“What? No, not at all,” Wu Di feigned innocence.
Shao Han had already seen through his little tricks.
“Hmph, who knows how you two will bully me in the future,” Shao Han glared at him, and Wu Di made a funny face.
After they had finished organizing everything in the nursery, they looked around the adorable room. Wu Di happily kissed Shao Han on the cheek and softly said, “Nervous? We’re going to be parents.”
“Nervous? You’re still a kid yourself,” Shao Han looked at Wu Di with a strange expression.
“Me? I’m just adorable.”
“Oh, you’re so adorable. Hmph, you’re still adorable at your age? Wait until my little baby comes out and we’ll see if you’re still so adorable.”
“Still adorable,” Wu Di said, pulling a cute face.
“Hmph, I’m afraid you’ll be competing with my son for milk.”
“Uh, uh, which milk are you referring to?” Wu Di gave her a mischievous look, and Shao Han suddenly realized what he meant. Flustered, she pretended to be angry and gave him a playful punch, making Wu Di laugh out loud.
“Hey, what if it’s a daughter? You’re always saying ‘son, son,'” Shao Han asked Wu Di.
“Then she’ll be my little princess.”
“Don’t you only want a son?”
“Well, then we’ll have another.”
“I’ll die,” Shao Han thought back to the early pregnancy days.
“No, you won’t, you’ll be experienced.”
“You big meanie.” Shao Han felt both anger and affection towards him. Wu Di always managed to make her upset, yet she could never truly be mad at him because she cared too much for him.
“Wu Di, what if… what if the doctor says something unexpected happens and we can only save one? What would you do?” Shao Han’s mind raced with worries.
“Don’t talk nonsense,” Wu Di said with a serious face.
“No, I mean, just in case.”
“That’s impossible, and if you keep talking like that, I’ll get upset,” Wu Di said, not liking to joke about such serious matters. His wife, whom he loved dearly, and their eagerly awaited baby were too important to him.
“But, what if…” Shao Han saw the dark look on Wu Di’s face and stopped herself, not daring to continue. She was still a little worried about the possibility, letting her mind wander.
“What are you thinking in that little head of yours?” Wu Di saw right through her.
“Nothing, just… a little worried.”
“Silly, there won’t be any ‘what if.’ You both will be safe and sound. I’ll talk with Mr. Lin and make arrangements to have the best doctor,” Wu Di reassured her. He had already worked out connections at the hospital where Shao Han would be going, ensuring they would have the best care.
