For Your Happiness - Chapter 64 - He Moved
She still couldn’t eat meat or anything with a peculiar smell, which was quite torturous for Wu Di. He couldn’t smoke or drink, and he had to avoid foods with strong odors. Sometimes Wu Di would crave certain foods but had to hold back because of Shao Han.
Feeling sorry for him, Shao Han would say, “Go and eat what you want. Find some friends to go with.”
“I don’t really want anything. If I go out, what will you do?” Wu Di couldn’t bear to leave her even for a minute.
“I’ll be fine. I’ll just sleep at home and won’t move around,” Shao Han didn’t want Wu Di to keep compromising himself.
“I’m not comfortable with that. Even if I go out to eat, I wouldn’t enjoy the taste and I’d be worried. Just forget it.”
“I’m sorry to put you through this.”
“Don’t say that. It’s our child. Besides, it’s the baby that’s causing me a bit of trouble,” Wu Di said with a smile, placing his large hand on Shao Han’s belly.
“Ha, well…” Due to Shao Han, Wu Di was almost living a life of abstinence and meditation.
“It’ll be over soon. There’s less than ten days before the third month.”
“Let’s hope everything gets better,” Shao Han feared that if things remained the same, she couldn’t bear living like this.
Wu Di, feeling for her, held her in his arms. “Things will definitely get better.”
Those days were truly difficult. Every morning, Shao Han felt like she didn’t want to live, overwhelmed with discomfort. The doctor suggested it might be because it had been less than a year since her last miscarriage and her body hadn’t fully recovered. However, there were many theories with no solutions, leaving her to endure a seemingly endless stretch of time.
With just two days left in the third month, Shao Han was still violently vomiting. She looked at Wu Di with a woeful expression. “Only two days until the third month, but I don’t see any signs of improvement at all!”
“Don’t worry, don’t worry, it will get better.” Wu Di was also quite concerned. If this continued, she would really suffer from malnutrition. She couldn’t eat anything beneficial to her health. Wu Di frowned, searching for information and asking experienced friends for advice. Unfortunately, much of the advice was useless for Shao Han.
“I don’t want to be pregnant anymore, never again. No more little baby. If you want children in the future, find someone else to have them and I’ll help you raise them,” Shao Han said, half-joking and half-serious.
“What? No, I don’t want children with anyone else, only with you.”
“No more, I can’t stand it. Ahhhh,” Shao Han cried out, leaving Wu Di at a loss.
Another week passed before Shao Han’s pregnancy symptoms began to improve. She went from vomiting three times a day to once a day, which finally put a smile on her face. Then it became once every two days, once every three, and finally, once a week until it stopped altogether. By then, she was almost five months along, and a slight baby bump was visible.
Shao Han’s complexion improved a little, and Wu Di finally breathed a sigh of relief. Shao Han began to regain her appetite and could slowly eat regular meals. Although she didn’t eat much, it was a significant improvement compared to the previous months.
“I want some grapes,” Shao Han suddenly craved something sour.
“Really? Okay, I’ll go buy some.” For Wu Di, hearing Shao Han say she wanted to eat something was the best news. He felt that if she wanted it, he’d even bring the moon down for her.
“I’m not sure if there are good grapes this season,” Shao Han thought, realizing it was just the start of May.
“I’ll buy imported ones,” Wu Di was determined to quickly get her what she wanted.
“No, those are all sweet. I want the ones that are a bit sour,” Shao Han said pitifully.
“Then… I’ll go to several stores; there must be some that are sour.”
“What if none of them are the flavor I want?”
“Then I’ll eat them,” Wu Di said as he got dressed and went out to buy grapes. He visited many fruit stores and supermarkets, buying lots of varieties. However, most were sultana grapes and not the real kind because it was hard to find them in this season.
Wu Di couldn’t tell the difference, though. He happily bought a bunch and brought them home, washed them, and offered them to Shao Han. Although none of the grapes tasted right, seeing Wu Di sweaty and excited, Shao Han couldn’t bear to disappoint him, so she kept saying they were delicious.
In the evening, Shao Han began prenatal education for the baby. She turned on the stereo, listened to beautiful classical music, and read a book. Wu Di placed his laptop on his lap while sitting on the sofa, and Shao Han leaned her upper body against his side, with her legs stretched out on the sofa. Together, they quietly shared the music with the little baby inside her belly.
As a burst of stirring music suddenly played, Shao Han felt an unusual sensation inside her stomach.
“Ah! Wu Di,” Shao Han exclaimed.
“What’s wrong?” Wu Di was taken aback.
“He… he… the baby seems to have moved,” Shao Han shouted excitedly. She had been reading books about pregnancy and knew that it was time for fetal movements to start.
“Huh?” Wu Di became excited too.
Shao Han was thrilled and curious, and Wu Di quickly put down his laptop. “Let me see, can you see it?”
Wu Di leaned down to look at Shao Han’s belly, but everything was calm, and nothing was visible.
“It stopped moving,” Shao Han said, disappointed after watching for a long time.
“Did the baby really move earlier?”
“Yes, really, it seemed like he moved when the music got loud.”
“Then, let me play that piece of music again.”
“Oh.”
Wu Di replayed the loud, stirring music, and both of them quietly watched Shao Han’s belly. The scene was truly amusing. Sure enough, when the music’s volume rose again, there was a slight movement on Shao Han’s belly.
“Ah, he moved, he moved,” Shao Han observed.
“I saw it, I saw it,” Wu Di said as well. He was so excited, thrilled, and happy that he was about to shed tears. Unlike Shao Han, this was the first time he truly felt the presence of that little life.
Wu Di gently placed his hand on Shao Han’s belly and softly said, “Baby, it’s Daddy.”
The tender moment was so moving that Shao Han was filled with tears of happiness.
“I finally felt him,” Wu Di said, looking up at Shao Han. “Shao Han, I will love both of you forever.”
“Of course, you’re our rock.”
Wu Di pulled Shao Han into his arms, overwhelmed with happiness. Shao Han could only feel truly safe in his embrace.
“Ah, he moved again,” Shao Han said, breaking free from Wu Di’s hold.
“Really? Moving again? This little guy is quite the rascal,” Wu Di laughed, filled with indescribable happiness.
“He must take after you, so mischievous and naughty. He’s a little Pipi.”
“Really? Pipi?”
“Yeah, let’s give him the nickname Pipi,” Shao Han suggested with a smile.
“But… in Shanghainese, it sounds like ‘poop,'” Wu Di protested.
“No way,” Shao Han said, mumbling the two words to herself. “They’re different.”
“Won’t he turn out to be like a little monkey?”
“Oh, you’re the monkey here. Hmph, my baby will definitely be super cute. Fair and chubby. As fair as me,” Shao Han argued.
“Hmph, with how little you eat, I doubt it,” Wu Di chuckled.
“I’ll eat well tomorrow, just watch,” Shao Han retorted, as Wu Di smiled, knowing she took the bait.
