For Your Happiness - Chapter 63 - Mom is Very Worried
Wu Di looked at Shao Han, who had a mysterious grin on her face. She kept giggling mysteriously and ran over to her. With a mischievous smile, he said, “What exactly are you laughing about? Tell me quickly, or else I won’t be so nice.”
“Oh? And how won’t you be nice?” Shao Han replied nonchalantly, “Hmph, don’t forget, I have a ‘talisman’ now.” She tilted her head, placed her hand on her belly, and looked very proud. Wu Di followed her hand with his eyes, glanced at her belly, pondered for a few seconds, and plopped down on a seat.
“Oh dear, this really is a trump card.”
“Hehe, let’s see how you’ll bully me now.” Shao Han put her little hands around his neck, pretending to strangle him while shaking him back and forth. Wu Di swayed along with her without much resistance.
“Ah… how unfortunate. I knew it would come to this. Hmph! I’ll endure you for eight months.” Wu Di looked distressed.
“Haha, does that mean I can bully you for eight months? So happy, so happy!” Shao Han cheered like a little girl.
“Wow, do you really want to bully me?” Wu Di looked at her excitement and pretended to be angry.
“Yes, of course, who told you to always bully me.”
“Did I? I don’t even have time to love you enough.” Wu Di looked wronged.
“Of course, you did.” Shao Han had a domineering attitude as if she had finally turned the tables.
“Alright, my queen, I shall serve you well from now on, shall I?” Wu Di laughed at her antics.
“Hmph!” Shao Han let out a victorious huff with exaggeration.
This family was about to welcome a new little life. When Wu Di and Shao Han first refurbished the house, they left a room on the first floor as a nursery. Although a little baby wouldn’t need a separate room immediately, they planned to turn it into a playroom where the baby could play. All the furnishings were specially designed for infants and toddlers, including a variety of toys. Ever since they found out that this little one had come into Shao Han’s belly, whenever they saw cute toys, they would buy them and put them in the room.
Shao Han had a rather painful first three months due to severe pregnancy symptoms. She struggled with eating and sleeping well, while Wu Di stayed by her side every day. He only went to the company to handle extremely important matters. It was nearing the New Year, and many cases that he should have taken were turned down. His reason was that Shao Han was pregnant and not in great health, requiring his care and leaving him no time.
As a result, both inside and outside their circle, it was well-known that Wu Di cherished his wife like treasure. This brings us to someone, Xu Jing, one of Wu Di’s former lovers. She also heard about this through others. Since the last incident, Wu Di hadn’t contacted her, and she knew she had no chance anymore. Now, upon hearing that Shao Han was pregnant and Wu Di wasn’t even doing much business for her sake, it was unbelievable. Was this really the domineering Wu Di she once knew?
As they celebrated the New Year at Shao Han’s, Mr. and Mrs. Shao were understandably delighted with this good news. They stayed for a few days, and Mrs. Shao thought every day about making a few of Shao Han’s favorite dishes from the past. However, Shao Han’s appetite wasn’t very good sometimes, which worried Mrs. Shao.
Before returning to Shanghai from the Shao Family, Mrs. Shao, seeing her daughter’s strong reactions, worried about the insufficient nutrition affecting both her and the fetus’s healthy growth, feeling quite uneasy.
“Sigh…” Watching Shao Han struggle with eating, Mrs. Shao sighed sadly.
“Mom, maybe it’ll get better after this month,” Shao Han reassured her mother.
“Be careful, don’t let it be like last time…” Mrs. Shao started to say, almost bringing up past worries, but held back her words.
“Hehe, I’ll be careful this time,” Shao Han told her mother with determination.
“Well, I just worry that you’re eating too little-about the nutrition.”
“It’s alright. Wu Di cooks for me every day following a nutritional guide. Maybe it’ll improve after this month.”
“Hopefully.”
“Mom, rest assured, I’ll take good care of her. She’s my babe, and not to mention, our little baby is in her belly now too.” Wu Di knew just how to win over the elders.
“Ah, haha,” Mrs. Shao hadn’t expected Wu Di to be as devoted as he was. Contrary to what outsiders claimed about his flirtatious nature, he had always been consistently loving towards his daughter, even to the point of pampering her. It was remarkable to see a man put aside everything to care for his wife.
“Wu Di, you shouldn’t stop working just because of Shao Han. Women go through this,” Mr. Shao, a traditionalist, assumed it was Shao Han who kept Wu Di from going to work.
“Oh, Dad, it’s okay. I’m just not too comfortable leaving her. The hotel is running smoothly anyway, and there’s nothing too pressing that I can’t make time to take care of her. I only feel at ease when I’m with her,” Wu Di hoped his father-in-law could understand.
“I told him to go to work, but he’s just not comfortable with it. I suggested hiring a domestic helper, but he didn’t trust anyone else’s cooking to be as good as his, and he didn’t want strangers in the house. So, he stays home every day to look after me,” Shao Han explained to her father, who had always taught her not to hinder her husband’s career.
“Dad, I hope you can forgive me. Let me be less career-driven for now, because aside from Shao Han and the baby, I really can’t focus on anything else,” Wu Di sincerely expressed.
“Ah, you… you’re too caught up in romantic affairs,” Mr. Shao was bewildered. Initially, he had been worried that Wu Di wouldn’t be committed and serious towards his daughter, but now he found Wu Di perhaps too emotionally attached.
“Dad, I’m your daughter. Aren’t you happy that Wu Di treats me so well?” Shao Han cooed.
“Of course I’m happy, but a man should prioritize his career. Don’t hold him back,” he advised.
“I understand. Once the baby is born, I’ll work even harder to earn money and provide them with a good life,” Wu Di immediately promised.
“Mm,” Mr. Shao was actually pleased to see their affection, yet he hoped his daughter wouldn’t become too spoiled.
Mrs. Shao naturally had a lot of advice to give, while Shao Bin was discussing with Wu Di about preparing to become a father. Liu Xin was holding their little nephew, and Shao Han was playfully teasing him, telling him that he would have a little brother or sister soon. The little nephew just laughed gleefully, and Shao Han sang and danced to entertain him. From a distance, Wu Di watched them, feeling that Shao Han would certainly be a patient and wonderful mother, which brought him immense comfort and happiness.
Before leaving, they reassured Mrs. Shao not to worry too much. As the whole family walked them to the gate, everyone was smiling, except Mrs. Shao, whose face still showed concern.
Once in the car, Shao Han said to Wu Di, “It seems like Mom is really worried.”
“Yeah, she’s been through it all before. Seeing you like this, she’s probably worried about how tough it is for you.”
“Hehe, well, the first three months are almost over.”
“Hopefully, you’ll feel better entering the fourth month. Otherwise, seeing you like this would be heartbreaking for me.”
“God, please let me get better soon,” Shao Han said as she pressed her palms together, looking up and closing her eyes to silently make a wish to the sky.
Wu Di started the car, and the two headed back to Shanghai.
