For Your Happiness - Chapter 62 - Expectant Father and Mother
Wu Di looked at the variety of products with great curiosity.
“Do we need this?” He asked Shao Han the same question as he picked up each item.
“If you keep doing that, we’ll end up buying the entire mall,” Shao Han said with a wry smile.
“But there must be a reason for these products to exist, so let’s buy them.”
“Some things aren’t necessities.” Shao Han took the maternity underwear from his hand and put it back.
“I don’t want you to miss out on anything,” Wu Di said, watching her put it back, and he tried to grab it again.
“Hey, you…” Shao Han pulled him away. “Look closely, there are different models for different stages of pregnancy.”
“Huh? Oh, I thought they were all the same,” Wu Di said sheepishly. “What about this?” He picked up a pair of maternity pants.
“Oh my God, dear, can I choose for myself? You just need to hold them,” Shao Han sighed, feeling helpless with him.
“Okay, but everything looks good to me, and it seems like you need it all,” Wu Di obediently followed Shao Han, feeling curious about everything he hadn’t seen before.
“Some things should be bought later, depending on how much I grow or the season. We can’t just buy randomly and waste money,” Shao Han explained to Wu Di.
“Oh.”
At that moment, Shao Han noticed a very pregnant woman walking in, possibly having had too much nutrition; she was quite large. Wu Di and Shao Han watched as she walked ahead with her husband trailing behind like a pushover. Having chosen their items, Wu Di and Shao Han paid and walked out carrying several bags.
After walking a bit further, Shao Han shook Wu Di’s arm.
“Will I get that big too? It’s too much, what if I can’t get back in shape after the baby? Will you stop loving me? Will I get ugly?” Shao Han said, worried as she thought about that pregnant woman.
“No, no matter how big you get, you’ll still be beautiful. You won’t end up like that. Besides, what’s most important is your and the baby’s health. Don’t always worry about your figure. I’ll love you forever. But the man following her did look pretty pitiful.” Men and women really see things from different perspectives.
“What’s with that man?” Shao Han hadn’t noticed.
“He seemed pretty henpecked. Will you become bossy too when you’re pregnant? Will you bully me like that?”
“Me? Bully you? Heaven help me, just as long as you don’t bully me,” Shao Han pinched Wu Di lightly.
“Ouch! See, see, you’re already starting with the domestic violence.”
“Wow, Wu Di, prenatal music! Let’s buy this so our baby can develop a sense of elegance from an early age,” Shao Han said, noticing a CD of world-famous classical music.
“Oh, sure, whatever you say.”
“And storybooks, too. Read stories to me and the baby every night,” Shao Han suggested as she picked up some storybooks.
“More books? I’m the king of storytelling! No need for those unoriginal books. I’ll tell our son more interesting stories every day,” Wu Di said confidently.
“Son, son, all you think about is a son.” Shao Han worried that he might be disappointed if they had a daughter.
“Alright, if it’s a daughter, you can just give me a son next time. Wouldn’t that make you happy?”
“What? Why would that make me happy?” Shao Han was exasperated with his irreproachable logic.
“Well, you said I only care about having a son, so if we have a daughter, we’ll just have another and everyone’s happy,” Wu Di said innocently.
Shao Han angrily raised her hand and lightly hit his arm repeatedly, saying, “You rascal, you rascal, you rascal.”
In the evening, the young couple had dinner with Mr. Wu and Mrs. Wu. Mr. Wu had a feeling Wu Di had something important to say, so he insisted on taking them out to eat.
He asked, “Is there something going on today?”
“Hehe,” Wu Di chuckled foolishly, glancing at Shao Han.
“Shao Han, Shao Han is pregnant.”
“What?” Mr. Wu exclaimed with his mouth wide open in surprise, “Really?”
Mrs. Wu immediately looked at Shao Han for confirmation. Shao Han felt a bit shy because she still had lingering fears from the last time. She was always afraid of another surprise, not wanting a false alarm. But she knew how much Wu Di wanted to share the news with his parents, so she didn’t stop him.
“Did you have it checked at the hospital?” Mrs. Wu asked.
“Yes, we went, and the doctor said everything is great. We even heard the heartbeat and got a picture, but… I can’t really make sense of it,” Wu Di reported to his parents, sounding like a silly child.
“Really? Let me see, let me see,” Mr. Wu said, overjoyed.
Wu Di took out the paper, and Mr. and Mrs. Wu passed it between them, their faces lighting up with unmistakable joy and smiles.
“This time, I’ll be more careful,” Shao Han said apologetically.
Hearing this, Mr. and Mrs. Wu understood Shao Han’s concerns and immediately comforted her, telling her not to worry too much and to keep her spirits up. They reassured her that the past incident wouldn’t happen again. Though Shao Han knew they were trying to console her, she genuinely didn’t want to disappoint or sadden them again.
The family happily chatted and laughed together, and the elders were in high spirits. They talked for a long time, and Wu Di noticed that Shao Han seemed a bit fatigued, so he thoughtfully bid farewell to his parents.
“Are you tired?” Wu Di asked caringly.
“A little,” Shao Han replied.
“Let’s go home.”
“Okay.” Shao Han leaned back in the seat, and Wu Di adjusted it to a comfortable position for her. “Just relax; we’ll be home soon.”
“It’s okay, don’t drive too fast.”
“Don’t worry, it’s not just the two of us in the car now, there’s also our little baby,” Wu Di said, glancing at Shao Han’s belly.
“Yes, you should know that. Your responsibility is even greater now.”
“You both are my motivation.”
Shao Han smiled, wondering what the day would be like when their baby finally arrives.
Suddenly, Wu Di chuckled.
“Why are you laughing?”
“I was just imagining what our baby might look like.”
“Haha, probably a combination of both of us.”
“What would that look like? If they have your eyes and my mouth, I wonder if it would look good.”
“Looking forward to it?”
“Of course.”
“We still have more than eight months to wait.”
“Impatient.”
“You’re always in a hurry,” Shao Han laughed at him.
“By the way, with the New Year coming up, have you called your parents to tell them?”
“No, I didn’t want them to worry. We’ll tell them in person in a few days.”
“Alright, sounds good.”
It was a wonderful day. Despite the cold outside, both Shao Han and Wu Di felt as though a warm fire burned in their hearts, full of hope and anticipation.
“Should we think about names?” Shao Han asked softly, reminded of the last time they thought about names and the baby they lost.
“Let’s not do that again,” Wu Di replied, a bit wary as well.
“How about a nickname instead?”
“Sure. Let’s pick a nickname. What would sound nice?”
“Hehe,” Shao Han giggled mischievously.
“That’s a strange laugh. What little scheme are you cooking up?” Wu Di felt Shao Han must be up to something.
“Nothing,” Shao Han continued to giggle.
“Come on, tell me,” Wu Di urged.
“I won’t say… hmm.” Shao Han laughed so hard her stomach hurt, and Wu Di playfully rushed over to her side, eager to know what was on her mind.
