For Your Happiness - Chapter 57 - Has the Baby Arrived?
These days have been agonizingly slow for Shao Han, every day filled with anxiety. The excessive tension has left her feeling mentally exhausted and her complexion isn’t looking great.
Wu Di has tried countless ways to divert Shao Han’s attention, but nothing really worked. He could only spend a few days with her, hoping that things would settle down eventually.
This time, Shao Han didn’t dare tell anyone. She feared it might be another false alarm. Last time, both sets of parents were overjoyed, brimming with anticipation, only to end up disappointed. This time, Shao Han had resolved to wait until the risky first trimester was safely past before letting them know.
However, a noticeable improvement in her appetite made Shao Han feel that something was different about her body, though the memory of her previous miscarriage still cast a shadow, making her hesitant to jump to conclusions.
Three days later, Shao Han was finally convinced that there must be a baby in her belly. According to her own menstrual cycle, it had never been this late before. She smiled secretly, still not daring to speak out.
“Shao Han.” Wu Di also felt that several more days had passed.
“Hmm?”
“Um… has it been several days?”
“Mhm.”
“Hehe.” Wu Di chuckled sheepishly.
“Hehe, this time feels different from the last. I couldn’t sense his presence at all before, but these days my appetite has doubled. I wonder if it’s him wanting to eat?” For the first time, Shao Han brought up the subject.
Wu Di’s eyes lit up when he heard her: “Really? Is that true?”
“Mhm.” Shao Han smiled softly.
“Ha ha!” Wu Di rushed over to Shao Han and lifted her in his arms, spinning around.
“Ah, what are you doing? Put me down,” Shao Han, knowing his excitement, quickly tried to calm him down.
“Oh, okay.” Wu Di put Shao Han down gently, cupping her face with his hands: “We’re going to have a baby.”
“But… I’m so scared,” Shao Han looked at him, her face crinkling with worry despite the smile.
“Don’t be scared.” Wu Di found her adorable, leaning in to lightly kiss her on the lips.
Shao Han still pouted, “I’ve read the books. The first three months are risky, and I worry about these three months.”
“Don’t worry, everything will be fine this time,” Wu Di said, his smile so wide he could hardly close his mouth. “Who would have thought I’d be this amazing? We got it right on the first try.”
“Ah?”
“So many people try several times without success, but we did it on our first attempt, haha. Last time was the same. So, would you say I’m amazing or what?” Wu Di gloated.
“Hmph, why don’t you say that I’m amazing?” Shao Han retorted.
“Well, you are amazing too, haha. I’m invincible, and so will our baby be.”
“Okay, let’s not get too excited just yet. Let’s wait until we’re past the three-month mark. Also, could you come with me to the hospital for a check-up in a few days?”
“No problem.”
“And about this, let’s not tell our parents until after the first three months.”
“Why?”
“I’m still scared.”
“Don’t talk nonsense. I have a good feeling this time; everything will be fine.”
“Still, let’s keep it between us for now,” Shao Han pleaded.
“Alright, as you wish,” Wu Di said, understanding Shao Han’s concerns.
“Hehe.”
The couple secretly enjoyed their little secret, with Shao Han insisting on waiting thirty-five days before going to the hospital. Until then, all they had were their educated guesses.
On the thirty-fourth day, Shao Han got up in the morning to brush her teeth when suddenly she felt a wave of nausea flood from her stomach, and she gagged, trying to vomit, but nothing came out. She repeated this several times, feeling miserable.
“What’s wrong?” Wu Di, hearing the noise, rushed over to ask.
“My stomach feels awful.” Shao Han was very uncomfortable, especially since she couldn’t actually vomit anything out, making the dry heaving even worse.
Wu Di, with tears in his eyes, tenderly watched over Shao Han and gently rubbed her stomach with his warm, large hands.
Shao Han leaned her head against his chest, appearing very weak.
“It seems like the reaction is much stronger than the last time, huh?” Wu Di noted.
“Yes. If so, then the baby must be a mischievous one, just like you, always causing trouble,” Shao Han said playfully.
“Hehe, maybe he’s just proving his presence? Or perhaps he’s just more lively,” Wu Di laughed.
Wu Di supported Shao Han as they entered the bedroom. “Don’t go to work. Stay home and rest.”
“What about Xiao Zhang? Can she manage on her own?”
“When you were absent before, she handled everything alone. She’ll be fine. I’ll go and let her know.” Wu Di cared most about Shao Han, paying little attention to others.
“Okay, Wu Di, I’m not being overly sensitive, but this time, I’m really scared something might go wrong.”
“I understand, I’m scared too. It’s not just about the baby; your health is at risk as well.” Wu Di’s words warmed Shao Han’s heart.
“I’ll head to the hotel first to take care of some urgent matters, then I’ll come back and take you to the hospital. You stay at home and sleep. Don’t move around.”
“Alright.” Shao Han was obedient this time.
After changing his clothes, Wu Di went off to work, looking handsome in anything he wore. As a man with Western heritage, his distinct charm was something others could hardly match, and Shao Han always admired him for that.
Driving to the hotel, Wu Di felt elated. Despite the cold weather, his heart was warm. “Is this a New Year’s gift from heaven? As the New Year approaches, I’m going to have a baby,” he thought contentedly, always hoping for a baby and now filled with new hope.
He almost hummed a tune as he entered the hotel, in an exceptionally good mood, smiling at everyone. Everyone wondered why Mr. Wu was so cheerful today, a stark contrast to his usual cool demeanor.
“Hey, Mr. Wu, what’s got you in such a good mood today?” Lv Mengmeng couldn’t help but ask when she saw Wu Di’s happy face.
“Hehe… I’m not telling you.” Wu Di remembered Shao Han’s words and held back the urge to announce to the world that he was going to be a father.
“Oh? Keeping secrets now? Hey, I didn’t see Shao Han. Did you sneak out for a bite?” Lv Mengmeng teased him.
“Hey, hey, hey, how could I? I’m a good man, you know?”
“So, what is the happy news?” Lv Mengmeng circled back to her question.
“Don’t try to pry it out of me. You’ll know when it’s time. Knowing too much can be very dangerous,” Wu Di said with a sly expression.
Lv Mengmeng was momentarily stunned by what Wu Di said. What was going on with him? It was her first time seeing him like this. She wondered if some kind of spell had come over Wu Di?
“Oh, right, Mengmeng, I need to go home this afternoon. Is there anything urgent?” Wu Di wanted to take care of important matters quickly.
“Oh, there are a few documents that need your signature.” Lv Mengmeng pulled out the documents.
“Alright, bring them to my office,” Wu Di said as he walked into the office. Lv Mengmeng followed him with the documents in hand.
“Is this all?” Wu Di glanced at the request documents lying beneath the others, which had already been discussed in meetings, and asked while signing, “Nothing too urgent, right?”
“No, nothing too pressing.”
“Good. Call me if anything comes up. I need to accompany Shao Han to the hospital this afternoon.”
“What?” Lv Mengmeng’s eyes widened: “What’s wrong with Shao Han?”
“Oh, it’s nothing. Don’t make a big deal out of it.” Wu Di didn’t want Lv Mengmeng, known for her gossiping, to know about this too soon, or by tomorrow, the whole company would be aware.
“Why the hospital, then?”
“Oh, just accompanying her to visit a friend,” Wu Di made up an excuse on the spot.
“Oh, you scared me for a second. Well, if there’s nothing else, I’ll head out.”
“Yeah, go ahead.”
Wu Di turned on his laptop to check his emails and see what else needed to be done today, aiming to finish as quickly as possible.
