For Your Happiness - Chapter 54 - A Frightening Dream
“Will it work?” Shao Han suddenly asked.
“What?”
“Will we be able to have a child?”
“I don’t know, it depends if it’s meant to be.”
“I’m really worried.” Shao Han lay in his arms.
“Hey, can you please not put so much pressure on yourself?” Wu Di felt Shao Han was too tense.
“I…” How could she not be stressed? After what happened last time, Shao Han had been terrified that it would happen again, and if it did, she truly feared she might die.
“Relax, being in this state isn’t good.”
“I do want to relax, but…”
“Okay, let’s just let things take their course, alright? Now you’re making me feel like this is becoming a burden,” Wu Di patted her back.
“Oh.” Shao Han responded.
“Let’s sleep.”
“Mhm.”
Wu Di soon fell asleep, worn out, but Shao Han’s mind was filled with myriad thoughts. Would the previous miscarriage affect this time? Could what happened before happen again? Would the baby be healthy, and could she successfully get pregnant? The more she thought, the less she could relax.
She finally dozed off, but it seemed like she fell into a dream where a little boy in black clothes, looking very angry, stood watching her from a distance, his face full of resentment. Shao Han tried to see his face clearly, but he turned and walked away. For some reason, Shao Han felt that he was her child, the one she hadn’t protected well, angry at her. She was heartbroken, tears falling, wanting to call out to him, but unsure how-should she call him little baby? Child? She opened her mouth, but no sound came out. Her heart was filled with immense sorrow.
Shao Han watched the little boy move further away, her feet as if tied, unable to chase after him. In despair, she turned around, only to see a cute little baby standing there in red clothes, plump and very adorable, looking up and smiling at her.
“Who are you?” Shao Han asked in surprise, this time able to speak.
Suddenly, a woman dressed in red appeared next to Shao Han, looking exactly like herself. How could she be standing in front of herself? The woman in red smiled sweetly and said to Shao Han, “I am Wu Di’s wife.”
“Mom,” the little baby called out to the woman in red.
“Ah! Then… who am I?” Shao Han was confused. She is Wu Di’s wife, and the adorable child is their child, so who am I? Who am I?
Shao Han stepped back slowly, as if suddenly stepping out of their home, and in a blink, she found herself in front of the house she shared with Wu Di, staring at this familiar yet strange building. Am I not a part of this family? She started to run, getting farther and farther from the house.
“No, don’t,” Shao Han yelled out.
“Shao Han, Shao Han,” Wu Di was awoken by Shao Han’s screams, seeing her with her eyes closed, crying and shouting, he knew she was caught in a nightmare again.
Shao Han was abruptly awakened by Wu Di, her eyes wide with panic as she looked at him.
“Wu Di,” Shao Han clung tightly to Wu Di. What was that dream about? It felt so real, what does it mean? She couldn’t figure it out.
“Another nightmare?” Wu Di stroked her head, trying to calm her.
“Yes, it was a terrible dream,” Shao Han cried, leaning on his shoulder.
“How terrible? Can’t I protect you?” Wu Di asked tenderly.
“So, so terrible,” Shao Han thought about the ominous implications of the dream. Am I not his real wife?
“Tell me about it, let me know how terrible it was,” Wu Di smiled.
“I don’t know, I don’t know how to explain it.”
“So, what did you dream about? Monsters? Disasters?”
“Neither.”
“Ah, I shouldn’t have talked about having a baby, maybe it’s too much pressure?”
“I…” Shao Han tightened her grip around Wu Di. “I’m afraid of losing you.”
“Foolish girl, we are husband and wife. We’re supposed to be together for a lifetime.”
“I… I dreamed there was a cute child and another woman. She said she was your wife,” Shao Han finally revealed.
“Ah? You were crying over that?”
“Uh-huh.”
Wu Di laughed as he hugged Shao Han tightly. “Tell me, what does the wife in your dream look like? Is she pretty?” He began joking with Shao Han.
“She looks just like me, as if she is me, yet not me.”
“Ah? The wife in your dream is you too? You’re not giving me a chance to change my taste,” Wu Di teased.
“I’m really upset, and you’re actually…” Shao Han broke free from his embrace, annoyed.
“Haha, that just shows it’s still you, and it will always be you in this lifetime. You should be happy about that,” Wu Di pulled her back into his arms.
“Really?” Shao Han was puzzled, frowning as she thought about that strange dream.
“Of course. Was our child in the dream as well?”
“Yes.” Shao Han nodded.
“Hehe, that means he’s on his way.” Wu Di smiled, lifting the corners of his mouth, and gently kissed Shao Han’s hair. “Is he cute?”
“Cute, plump and fair.” Shao Han thought about the adorable little baby. Could it be our child?
“It must be.”
“Mhm.” Shao Han leaned into Wu Di’s arms and finally relaxed enough to fall asleep.
Seeing her truly asleep, Wu Di began to move her hair aside, stroking her face, feeling a bit heartbroken. The matter of the child had put so much pressure on her; he needed to find a way to help her relax completely. Otherwise, what would they do in the future? If she were pregnant, enduring such stress for ten months would be bad for both the baby and her health. If she wasn’t pregnant, with her current tense state, how could she possibly conceive?
Wu Di thought to himself, trying to think of a solution. After a while, he decided not to bring up the baby topic for now, letting Shao Han relax first. He also thought about the dream she mentioned, finding it quite amusing, and wondered if it really meant they were going to have a baby, the little baby in red? He chuckled to himself.
Indeed, as he was getting older, Wu Di longed to have a child of his own, to call him “father” and Shao Han “mother.” Imagining such a life, he felt a profound sweetness in his heart.
Thinking about this, Wu Di smiled as he drifted off to sleep, hoping to see that cute child in his dreams.
Shakespeare once said: The course of true love never did run smooth.
The path of love for Wu Di and Shao Han was a challenging one. They would continue to strive, inch by inch, to embrace the fruits of their love.
This was their only mental barrier at the moment. They could trust each other, face temptations, and confront verbal provocations without being blinded. Their eyes saw straight into each other’s hearts, ready to face only the tribulations life had to offer.
