For Your Happiness - Chapter 41 - Love That Needs Nurturing
“Damn it,” Wu Di cursed vehemently, unsure if he was cursing his leg or his own bad temper that had driven Shao Han away. He walked slowly, unable to run or move quickly. It was night, and he couldn’t just shout around the neighborhood, sweat beads forming on his forehead from the urgency.
Suddenly, he had an idea: “Bao’er, go find Shao Han.” He spoke to the dog, hoping it could help him.
Shao Han was crying, not because she was scared of anything in particular, but because she feared that he no longer loved her, terrified of losing that love. She didn’t want their love to turn into mere familiarity.
The dog was incredibly efficient and quickly located Shao Han. Surprised at first, Shao Han then realized Wu Di might have sent the dog. She immediately looked around, spotting Wu Di struggling to walk towards her from a distance, moving as fast as his condition would allow.
Suddenly, Shao Han felt very sad and self-blaming. She ran towards Wu Di and threw herself into his arms, “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have run out. Are you tired? Does your leg hurt?” she asked, her voice quivering with tears.
“I’m sorry, it’s my fault. I lost my temper,” Wu Di held her, filled with remorse. “I’m glad you didn’t go far. What would I have done if I couldn’t find you?”
“How could I go far? Where would I go if not by your side? I only want to be where you are.”
Wu Di held her tenderly, distressed by the thought of hurting her, knowing how much she loved him.
“Let’s go home,” Wu Di said softly.
“Mhm.”
With that, Wu Di with his arm around Shao Han’s shoulders, and Shao Han supporting Wu Di’s waist, they slowly walked back home with the adorable Bao’er quietly following behind.
As they approached their home, they noticed a dress hanging on the handle of the public staircase, left there by some kind-hearted person. No one had taken it; Shao Han looked down briefly then walked past, Wu Di remaining silent.
After a noisy and restless night, both were exhausted and went to bed early after taking a shower. Wu Di held Shao Han from behind, holding her tightly in his arms. Shao Han, feeling the fatigue of the past few days, quickly fell asleep in his embrace.
In the middle of the night, Shao Han suddenly started trembling, waking Wu Di. He saw her shivering and gently shook her, asking, “What’s wrong?”
Shao Han woke up, turned around, and hugged Wu Di tightly, “I’m scared.”
“Did you have a nightmare?”
“Yes, I dreamt that we kept arguing.”
“I’m sorry,” Wu Di said with remorse.
Shao Han’s spirit had been deeply influenced by Wu Di, deeply embedded in her heart and brain, in all her organs. Wasn’t this enough to express her love? How could Wu Di not understand all of this?
“Wu Di, I don’t want our love to become a joke. We need to be happy forever,” Shao Han murmured sleepily.
“Yes, we will be, definitely. Go to sleep, dear, sleep,” Wu Di soothed her.
Everyone knows that arguing only leads to more hurt, yet no one can control their emotions. Arguments happen, followed by regret and pain, only then realizing the mistake. It repeats until one truly understands the right way to act.
As days slowly passed, the two carefully nurtured their love, and the name Wang Chufan no longer came up between them. Although Wang Chufan had tried to contact Shao Han, she never responded, fearing more trouble.
The hot summer quickly passed, and the weather gradually cooled. Wu Di’s legs had completely healed. Shao Han walked arm in arm with him on a path lined with trees, watching the falling leaves in the crisp, clear autumn, her thoughts wandering.
“Wu Di,” Shao Han called out to him.
“Yes?”
“Liu Xin is going to have a baby, I’m going to be an aunt.”
“Heh, it’s really amazing, isn’t it? Two people come together, and then there’s a little baby that looks like both of them,” Wu Di laughed, thinking about what their own child might look like.
“Yes, I really wonder what their child will look like,” Shao Han said, looking up at the sky. “It must look like the mother, don’t boys usually look like their mothers?”
“He’ll grow up to be like his father.”
“I think so too. Boys tend to resemble their mothers when they’re young, but as they grow, they start to take after their fathers, and the resemblance is striking.”
“Should we… should we start getting ready?” Wu Di asked cautiously.
“Mm, haha,” Shao Han laughed, lowering her head before leaning it on his arm. “I… I’m a bit scared.”
“Scared of what?”
“Scared of… scared of it happening again…”
“Don’t talk nonsense,” Wu Di stopped her.
“Oh.”
“It won’t happen. I’ll make sure we have a very healthy one for you. You just have to take good care of it,” Wu Di said with a smile.
“Okay,” Shao Han shyly agreed, warming Wu Di’s heart as he heard her response.
“Let’s raise him to be beautiful,” Shao Han innocently thought.
“Of course, he will be. Our child will definitely be the most beautiful.”
“It’s so nice to take a walk like this occasionally,” she thought. Every day is so hectic with work, and there’s always a rush against time, it seems like we forget to enjoy life. An idle afternoon like this, not driving, not thinking about work, just walking and looking at the sky, watching the leaves fall, stealing a moment of leisure-it’s very comfortable and pleasant.
“Let’s emigrate in the future, to a tranquil country, and continue our mythical love,” Wu Di suggested.
“Really?” Shao Han’s face lit up with surprise.
“Absolutely, I want to give you a lifetime of mythical stories, just as I promised you,” Wu Di affirmed.
“Haha, but what about reality? Will it allow it?”
“No matter if it allows or not, I’ll make every effort.”
“You say it so well, don’t make me expect too much, okay? What if I end up disappointed?”
“Would you not want me if you were disappointed? Would you leave me?”
“Never,” Shao Han laughed, and Wu Di playfully tweaked her nose, “Then what do I have to worry about? You won’t leave me anyway. I’ll try my hardest, but if I can’t make it, please don’t be too disappointed, okay?”
“Okay.” Shao Han leaned into Wu Di, nestling into his embrace. “I really want to kiss you.”
“Kiss then.”
“In the middle of the street?” Shao Han whispered.
“Let them watch.” Saying this, Wu Di bent down and kissed Shao Han’s lips. Wow, surely someone saw us, definitely saw us, how embarrassing, but oh well, I’ll close my eyes, no one knows me, no one knows me. Shao Han thought to herself, slowly getting lost in Wu Di’s kiss.
After a while, Wu Di finally stopped. “Can’t continue. If we go on, it’ll be too passionate, too many people around.”
Shao Han smiled and rested her face against his chest.
Suddenly, Shao Han’s phone rang. Seeing it was Shao Bin calling, she half guessed what it might be about and hurriedly answered, “Hello?”
