For Your Happiness - Chapter 38 - Choosing a Gift
“Hey, don’t worry, leave it to me,” Xu Zhuo reassured Wu Di, who was getting anxious.
“Okay.” Wu Di stopped talking; he knew better than to insist in situations like this. Continuing to do so would only cause more problems. He decided to wait at the nearby Starbucks and let Xu Zhuo keep an eye on Wang Chufan.
As Wang Chufan and Shao Han browsed and chatted, his witty humor lightened the mood and made the atmosphere enjoyable. Shao Han started to see Wang Chufan as a great man who truly loved his wife. Had she been overthinking before? She had suspected Wang Chufan might have feelings for her, which now made her feel embarrassed about her baseless assumptions.
In reality, Wang Chufan was an even smarter man. He never hid his affection for his wife; it was his usual approach. He always made it clear to other women that he encountered that he had a family, one that wasn’t easily broken by external temptations. Thus, he preemptively quashed any ideas these women might have about pursuing marriage with him. If they accepted these conditions, only then would he consider discussing other emotions. Even if the women couldn’t accept these facts and were reluctant to start something with him, he had other ways to make them agree.
“Buying clothes is tough; I haven’t seen your wife and am afraid I might pick something that doesn’t suit her style. Maybe we should choose a handbag or some accessories instead?” Shao Han tentatively suggested to Wang Chufan.
“Sure.” Wang Chufan looked at Shao Han, enjoying the vibe she gave off-easygoing and charming, without any pretense. Seeing her act so naturally made him feel younger, as if her presence rejuvenated him.
“Let’s go over there then.” Shao Han relaxed her guard and became even more natural.
Wang Chufan smiled as he followed her. He watched as Shao Han occasionally picked up an item, scrutinized it with a frown, either shaking her head or furrowing her brow even more, a sign of her seriousness. He found this trait of hers endearing and chuckled, saying, “You seem to take everything seriously, don’t you?” His voice was gentle and charismatic, a stark contrast to his usually deep and emotionless tone during work-related conversations, making Shao Han forget that he was a leader at the headquarters.
“Hmm? Haha, it’s always great to see people happy when they receive gifts. Just think about it-if someone gives you something and it’s not what you like, you wouldn’t feel too happy, right? But if it really touches your heart, that feeling is better than anything else.” Shao Han thought about the touching moment when Wu Di gave her a gift.
“I’m starting to notice more and more of your good qualities.”
“Hehe, not really.” Shao Han laughed naively.
“No wonder a handsome guy like Wu Di fell in love with you. You really are a good woman.” Wang Chufan found it extremely comfortable and wonderful to be alone with this young woman, truly stirring his emotions.
“How about this one?” Shao Han picked up a beautiful black leather handbag. “How about this? It looks elegant and sophisticated.” Shao Han swung the bag back and forth in her hand, a satisfied expression on her face.
“If you like it, that’s good enough for me.” Wang Chufan admitted he didn’t understand these things. “Then let’s go with this one. Could you wrap it up for me, please?” He said without hesitation.
“Certainly, sir. Your wife has really good taste, picking our classic model right away.” The saleswoman immediately flattered them. Although Wang Chufan was forty years old, his fashionable attire and well-maintained appearance made him look only about 35. Shao Han, needless to say, looked equally youthful, which led the saleswoman to believe they were a couple.
“Ah?” Shao Han opened her mouth in surprise, but her personality didn’t lend itself to correcting misunderstandings randomly. She glanced at Wang Chufan, hoping he would clarify.
Wang Chufan was only too happy to have such a misunderstanding but chimed in: “Yes, she’s beautiful and has great taste. I’m really lucky.”
“Yes, yes.” The saleswoman, seeing them buy a bag worth thousands, obviously laid the flattery on thick.
Only Shao Han stood there, wide-eyed and at a loss for words, unsure whether to explain herself to an unrelated saleswoman. Her expression, noticed by Wang Chufan, could hardly conceal his amusement, which showed openly on his face.
Shao Han couldn’t manage to give him a reproachful look.
“Let’s go, my dear wife.” Wang Chufan didn’t miss this chance and took the opportunity to tease Shao Han further.
“Hey, why would you say that?” Shao Han immediately protested as they left the store.
“What’s the problem? She doesn’t know us anyway.”
“That’s not an excuse.”
“Haha, you’re so serious!” Wang Chufan was secretly pleased.
“I still think it’s not right to say things like that,” Shao Han couldn’t quite explain why, but she just didn’t like it when people spoke carelessly.
“Alright, next time someone says something like that, I’ll explain properly that I borrowed someone else’s wife,” Wang Chufan said, laughing at his own joke, though it wasn’t clear what he found so amusing.
“That sounds weird.”
“Exactly, so maybe it’s better not to explain at all.”
“…” Shao Han felt that the men she encountered were all formidable, and she herself was too verbally inept to ever outtalk them.
“Does this mean my task is finished? Can we go back now?” Shao Han asked.
“I still want to buy a dress for her. Can you help me pick one?”
“But I don’t know what her body shape or size is.”
“Just buy one in your size; you two are about the same.”
“Oh, okay.” Shao Han wanted to finish quickly because it was getting late, and she was thinking of Wu Di. She went to a few familiar brands and chose a dark red dress for Mrs. Wang. The color was beautiful, and Shao Han said, “How about this one? It has some color but isn’t too loud or garish, and it complements the skin tone well,” she held it against herself to show.
“Why don’t you try it on? Let’s see how it looks on you,” suggested Wang Chufan.
“Me? Try it on?”
“Yes, I want to see how it fits on someone.”
“Okay.” Shao Han went into the fitting room.
A little while later, Shao Han came out. The color was indeed beautiful, and although it was a dark red, it made her face glow pink, enhancing her delicate appearance.
“It’s really pretty,” Wang Chufan complimented. Shao Han always preferred dresses with a slight flare because her calves were beautifully shaped and perfect. She rarely wore long dresses, and her voluptuous bosom and sexy figure always stirred men’s imaginations and made women envious. Finally, Wang Chufan was completely enchanted by this pomegranate dress.
“Hehe, is it okay? For your wife to wear? Isn’t it too red?” Shao Han was a bit worried.
“No, it’s absolutely perfect,” Wang Chufan murmured in response.
“Are you going to buy it?”
“Yes, this one.”
“Would you like it wrapped?” the clerk immediately followed up.
“Yes.” Wang Chufan’s eyes hadn’t strayed from Shao Han.
Shao Han didn’t look at him as she returned to the fitting room to change out of the clothes, thinking to herself that she had finally completed her task. By the time she came out, Wang Chufan had already paid.
“Is my task complete?” Shao Han asked him.
“Yes, it’s been a pleasant evening,” Wang Chufan said, somewhat reluctantly.
“Ha, well, as long as you’ve found the perfect gift, I’ll be happy if your wife likes it,” Shao Han said with a smile.
“Alright, if she likes it, I’ll let you know,” Wang Chufan said.
“Okay,” Shao Han replied, without any ulterior motive.
“Then give me your phone number. If she likes it, I might need your help again in the future.”
“Sure, I’ll help if I can,” Shao Han agreed.
Wang Chufan smiled.
