For Your Happiness - Chapter 37 - Protection
“Where is your car, Shao Han? We couldn’t keep up when we left.” Wu Di sent a message to Shao Han.
Shao Han was just about to reply when Wang Chufan asked, “Is that Mr. Wu? You two really care for each other, don’t you? A text message as soon as you part?”
“Oh, haha, he asked me to pick out a good gift for you,” Shao Han blurted out casually while texting back, “He hasn’t decided where he’s going yet.”
“By the way, Mr. Wang, have you decided where we’re going?” Shao Han asked again.
“Let’s head back to my hotel first.”
“What?” Shao Han exclaimed as soon as Wang Chufan finished speaking.
“Oh, don’t misunderstand, I have some important matters to attend to, it will only take a moment. You can wait for me in the car. Five minutes, it won’t take much of your time,” Wang Chufan hurriedly explained.
“Oh.” Shao Han was very puzzled by this man.
She then texted Wu Di: “He said we should go back to his hotel first.”
“What?” Wu Di was alarmed when he saw Shao Han’s message.
“What happened?” Xu Zhuo asked him.
“Wang Chufan said to go back to the hotel,” Wu Di recounted, unable to hold back his emotions any longer, he directly called Shao Han.
Shao Han’s phone rang, “Hello?”
“What’s going on?” Wu Di asked directly, not considering that Shao Han might not be able to speak freely.
“Oh, nothing. Have you gotten home yet?” Shao Han pretended.
It was then Wu Di realized Shao Han might be in a situation where she couldn’t speak openly. “Don’t go upstairs with him, do you hear me?” Wu Di instructed Shao Han.
“Okay, don’t worry,” Shao Han responded.
Xu Zhuo, now aware of their destination, had already turned the car towards the hotel where Wang Chufan was staying.
As expected, Wang Chufan went upstairs alone, leaving Shao Han waiting in the car. Yu Chen also got out of the car, deciding not to accompany Wang Chufan, as he wanted to go back to send some emails. Since it was a personal matter, Wang Chufan also said there was no need for Yu Chen to accompany him. Thus, Shao Han waited in the car downstairs, and upon seeing Wang Chufan disembarking, she hurriedly texted Wu Di: “I’m in the car downstairs at his hotel. Where are you guys?”
“We’ll be there soon.”
Shao Han read Wu Di’s reply and lifted her head to look out the car window, trying to spot Xu Zhuo’s car. Indeed, Wang Chufan did not let Shao Han go upstairs; she quietly waited.
Wang Chufan and Yu Chen entered the elevator together, and Yu Chen asked him, “Why didn’t you let her come up?”
“Do you think she could come up with me? Clearly, she’s not that type of woman.”
“And you?” Yu Chen was curious about what Wang Chufan was up to.
“I want her to fall in love with me,” Wang Chufan said.
“Not to criticize, but her husband is quite a catch.”
“So what? Love isn’t measured by such things.”
“You’ve really fallen for her, haven’t you? We’re going back tomorrow,” Yu Chen puzzled.
“I am somewhat taken, indeed,” Wang Chufan also found himself strange.
“That’s unlike you.”
“I don’t know if it’s the challenge I want to take on or what, but I always want to conquer.”
“I really don’t understand you. At your age, acting like a young guy? You have too many women fawning over you, living in bliss and yet looking for trouble, right?”
“Haha, life needs a bit of passion.”
“Hey, you’re forty.”
“Is that old?” Wang Chufan, as his name suggests, was full of his own importance.
“Uh… not old, but it’s surprising to see you this impulsive.”
“Impulsive, huh?”
“Impulsive.”
“Heh.” Wang Chufan treated life as a game, this chapter seemingly just a brief interlude, yet one he found quite intriguing.
“What are you really up to?”
“Heh, it’s a secret.” Wang Chufan said mysteriously, leaving Yu Chen completely baffled. Usually, Wang Chufan would tell him about the women he was involved with, but this time it was a secret.
Wu Di and Xu Zhuo arrived and spotted their car. They drove around the parking lot and then parked in a less conspicuous spot to avoid drawing attention. Wu Di sent a text to inform Shao Han, easing her mind significantly.
“Hey, what’s Wang Chufan really up to?” Xu Zhuo felt perplexed.
Wu Di rested his right elbow on the car window, his fist at his mouth, deep in thought with no expression and a slight frown. He believed that Wang Chufan was not simply out for a romantic conquest; it seemed he had recognized what type of woman Shao Han was, perhaps playing a game of hard to get. Wu Di didn’t need to speak of his own love for Shao Han. While he might have the edge in looks, Shao Han was not swayed by appearances alone; a man’s charm is not merely skin deep.
During this period, they lived a blissful life full of love, and Wu Di hadn’t considered the possibility of someone taking Shao Han away from him. She was like his possession, and suddenly this inexplicable person came along, triggering events out of his control, and he was still afraid that Shao Han might leave him.
Wang Chufan returned to the car and said to Shao Han, “Sorry to keep you waiting.”
“It’s okay,” Shao Han replied. Nothing else happened since Wang Chufan hadn’t asked her to get out of the car, making Shao Han wonder if she had been overly suspicious, thinking of Wang Chufan as a bad person.
It seemed Wang Chufan’s approach was quite successful; Shao Han was no longer so resistant to him.
“Let’s go shopping next,” Wang Chufan said with a smile.
“Sure.”
“You don’t have to be so nervous, you seem like you’re afraid of me.”
“Ah? Haha, no, I’m just not used to it.”
“Gradually we’ll get to know each other, can we be like friends?”
“Ah? Friends?” Shao Han looked surprised and skeptical, which made Wang Chufan laugh.
“Haha, no rush, take it slow.”
“Oh. Haha.” Shao Han felt Wang Chufan seemed a bit more approachable.
Shao Han was very kind-hearted, and she didn’t believe in absolute evil, although she was cautious around Wang Chufan. But seeing him like this, she wondered if she might be overthinking things.
The atmosphere lightened a bit, and Wang Chufan felt he had achieved his goal.
Xu Zhuo drove while Wu Di followed in his car. Shao Han and Wang Chufan entered the mall. Shao Han asked Wang Chufan about Madam Wang’s height, skin tone, and personality traits, as well as her preferences, all of which were relevant to choosing the right gift.
Wang Chufan furrowed his brow: “We’ve been married for so long, I’ve never really thought about it. But you choose, I think she’ll like anything you pick.”
“Ah? But that makes it difficult to choose. Some people like flashy things, others prefer something more understated. Some like grandeur while others prefer simplicity. This gives me no target at all,” Shao Han felt this would be challenging.
“Oh, I think she’s quite similar to you,” Wang Chufan said. “That’s why I felt a sense of familiarity when I saw you.”
“Ah? Really?” Shao Han asked, puzzled.
“Yes, so you pick, and if I think it’s appropriate, I’ll tell you.”
“Hehe, alright then.”
They walked together, Shao Han trying to gauge and help Wang Chufan choose, while Wu Di and Xu Zhuo watched them from a distance, not following too closely. Xu Zhuo glanced at Wu Di: “You look too distinctive, and with your leg being inconvenient, you should find a place to sit. I’ll follow them.”
“Ah, this darn leg, it’s killing me,” Wu Di was getting frustrated.
