For Your Happiness - Chapter 31 - Wang Chufan
As Xu Zhuo drove, he glanced at Shao Han sitting beside him. Sensing his gaze, she deliberately avoided looking at him.
“Shao Han, how did you get to know Wu Di?”
“We met in Hainan.”
“During a trip?”
“It was during a learning session.”
“Were you attracted by our Wu Di?”
“…”
“Yeah, a handsome guy like Wu Di would dazzle any woman.” Xu Zhuo kept on talking.
“Who’s dazzled by him? It’s him…” Shao Han couldn’t quite explain how she and Wu Di had actually met, nor could she really talk about it.
“Did he make the first move?” Xu Zhuo grew more interested. “He’s always so aloof with women, he approached you first?”
“What? You don’t believe it?” Shao Han asked defiantly.
“I believe… haha, I believe…”
“What’s with that tone?” Shao Han felt as if Xu Zhuo was mocking her. “We should bring him here to confront him.”
“No, no.” Xu Zhuo chuckled.
Previously at the company, apart from speaking with her female colleagues, Shao Han rarely talked with male colleagues. She had always been like this, during her school days, at work, and now at Wu Di’s company as well, she generally didn’t engage in casual conversations unless it involved official business. Thus, how the two of them came to know and love each other remained a mystery to many of their colleagues.
“I’m just curious, you know, Wu Di had his share of women, and we knew about them all, but you’ve always been so mysterious.” Xu Zhuo continued.
“He had a lot of women?”
“Oh… I’ve spoken too much.”
“No worries, he told me, but that was before he got together with Jiaru.”
“That’s true, he started focusing on the hotel business then, prioritizing his career.”
“Oh.”
“Now he’s turned into a real homebody, won’t even come out for a drink.” Xu Zhuo laughed.
“Heh, turned into drinking at home instead.” Shao Han gave a wry smile.
“So… I’m really curious about you.”
“Oh, what is there for me to be curious about? Hehe, maybe it was just fate that brought us together, and then we fell in love. Hehe, and then… Although it was painful at times, fortunately, everything was worth it,” Shao Han said, her face radiating happiness as she looked ahead.
“Wu Di wouldn’t have it so ordinary; you two must have a story.”
Shao Han smiled, a touch of blush coloring her cheeks, a secret only the two of them knew.
“We’re here,” Xu Zhuo announced.
“I’m a bit nervous.”
“Hehe.” Women are, after all, women; in the eyes of men, they are always to be protected. Xu Zhuo found Shao Han’s demeanor quite adorable and understood why Wu Di was charmed by her.
Xu Zhuo and Shao Han walked shoulder to shoulder into the grand lobby of the cocktail party. Shao Han’s dignified elegance indeed attracted many glances. Xu Zhuo, though not as handsome as Wu Di, carried himself with a debonair flair and had his own style, making him a charming man in his own right, quite eye-catching compared to others.
“This lady is the wife of our general manager, Mr. Wu,” Xu Zhuo introduced to the people from headquarters. “Mr. Wu injured his leg a few days ago and couldn’t attend personally, so his wife is representing him. Mrs. Wu is also our hotel’s finance officer.”
“Oh, hello,” Mr. Wang from headquarters said, extending his hand to Shao Han.
“Hello, I’m Shao Han,” she responded, extending her hand generously to shake Mr. Wang’s, who kept his eyes fixed on her.
Seeing this, Xu Zhuo turned and said, “Mr. Wang, our hotel this year…” intentionally diverting Mr. Wang’s attention.
Shao Han, understanding Xu Zhuo’s intent, smiled and turned away. She wasn’t very fond of interacting with strangers, usually passively accepting introductions, and not seeing anyone familiar, she didn’t feel inclined to approach anyone. She picked up a glass of juice and chose a relatively inconspicuous spot to sit down.
“Why are you hiding here?” Xu Zhuo finally found her.
“Oh, hehe, I’m really not good at dealing with these people,” Shao Han admitted, feeling somewhat inadequate.
“That’s alright, I’ll go and mingle. Wu Di wanted you here to let everyone know you’re representing him.”
“Okay.”
“Come on, let me introduce you to some of the executives from Shanghai.”
“Alright,” Shao Han followed Xu Zhuo, navigating through the crowd of businessmen. She didn’t particularly enjoy it, but she always managed to make calm judgments, making her seemingly well-suited for this circle. Shao Han herself couldn’t quite understand if she truly belonged in such an environment.
However, Shao Han had already made a lasting impression on everyone. To the women, the sight of Wu Di was unforgettable, and the men also remembered the tall, handsome man with exotic heritage. Now, the gentle, dignified, and elegant Shao Han was his wife, prompting admiration for the couple’s beautiful marriage.
Mr. Wang from headquarters couldn’t take his eyes off Shao Han, developing a strong interest in her.
“That woman is quite something,” Mr. Wang remarked to a friend beside him while sipping his drink.
“Too bad she’s married.”
“So what?”
“You’re interested?”
“Heh, a bit.”
“Not easy, though. She’s Wu Di’s wife. Remember him?”
“Vaguely.”
“He’s quite charismatic and charming.”
“So what?”
“You’re that interested?”
“There’s fun in the challenge.”
“Oh?”
The two men in suits exchanged a smile. This Mr. Wang, named Wang Chufan, was forty years old. Though no longer young, he was well-preserved, standing at 178 centimeters with a fair complexion, thick black hair, and a neither fat nor thin physique-a typical successful man who looked younger than his age, obviously skilled in many areas.
“This woman is good, not the vulgar type,” Wang Chufan said to Yu Chen beside him.
Yu Chen raised his eyebrows. “Thinking of taking on a young married woman?”
“Don’t you know? Young married women have their own allure.”
“Ha ha ha,” the two debonair men chuckled mischievously.
“Watch me,” Wang Chufan said, and then he approached Shao Han directly.
After getting to know some of her peers in Shanghai, Xu Zhuo found himself entangled by some women, leaving Shao Han alone there. She opened her purse, took out her cellphone, and sent a text message to Wu Di.
“What are you up to?”
“Thinking of you.”
Unable to resist, Shao Han smiled slightly at the message. Wang Chufan saw this expression and was captivated.
Wang Chufan is a typical pickup artist. A pickup artist refers to those men who target virtuous women for their romantic conquests, only to leave abruptly like a bubble vanishing into thin air once successful. They use the guise of being romantically passionate while actually engaging in the pursuit of seduction.
Pickup artists absolutely do not engage in transactions of a sexual nature, believing such actions are unclean. They are more interested in women who are reserved, perceiving such women as not being frivolous. They do not use lavish spending to attract women. Traditional Chinese culture leads men to believe that reserved and noble women are the most mysterious and challenging to pursue. Thus, conquering these women is seen as an achievement. The more reserved and refined the woman, the more she appeals to their tastes; they dislike women who are casual about sex.
“Wu Di, I want to go home. It’s so boring here.”
“Oh? Met everyone you needed to? Said all your hellos?”
“Yeah, but I didn’t remember anyone.”
“Hehe, no worries, as long as they remember you.”
“How do you know they will remember me?”
“Of course, I know.”
Shao Han was so focused on her phone that she didn’t notice someone approaching. She was puzzled by Wu Di’s words, frowned, tilted her head, and then chuckled softly.
None of these subtle movements escaped Wang Chufan’s eyes, and his interest in her deepened. Beautiful, sexy, reserved, intellectual, and elegant – she must be a woman of taste. How could Wang Chufan let such an opportunity pass by?
“Mrs. Wu here alone?” Wang Chufan asked in a seemingly casual tone, “Why not chat with everyone else?”
“Oh.” Shao Han was startled and glanced at Wang Chufan.
“Hehe, I’m not very familiar with these matters. I’m just here in place of Wu Di today,” Shao Han hurriedly said.
“It’s all a process, you’ll get used to it.”
“Hehe.” Shao Han didn’t know how to continue the conversation with this stranger, but she remembered that Wang Chufan was the deputy general manager from the headquarters, in charge of the event, and shouldn’t be neglected.
“You don’t seem to like talking much.”
“Ah? Oh, hehe, I really don’t know much about this industry, better to speak less and not make mistakes,” Shao Han explained.
Wang Chufan glanced at Shao Han, a smart woman. Seeing him looking at her, Shao Han lowered her head and put her phone back in her purse. She wondered what kind of attitude she should adopt towards this Wang Chufan.
