For Your Happiness - Chapter 29 - Dependent on Each Other
After Wu Di got injured, Shao Han took care of the hotel’s affairs for him. She would bring back the documents and hand them over to Lv Mengmeng or other departments the next day. The travel agency’s advertisements were quickly completed, thanks to the powerful reach of the internet making location less of an issue.
Every morning, Shao Han would dress up and bid farewell to Wu Di in their room. Wu Di would smile wryly, saying, “It feels like you’re taking care of me.”
“Come on, don’t say that. It’s all your business. I’m just running errands,” Shao Han replied, giving him a kiss on the face. “See you later, dear.”
Wu Di held onto her hand, reluctant to let go. “I’m not around, so you better not go around flirting with other men.”
“Hmph, your hotel staff?”
“And the guests.”
“Haha, you really need to get better soon. You’re turning into a little jealous spouse.”
“Bad woman…” Wu Di pouted.
With a smile, Shao Han left the house. With Wu Di not around, many tasks at the company required her attention. Besides discussing things over the phone with Wu Di, many people came to Shao Han for guidance. She was suddenly pushed to the forefront. Shao Han mimicked Wu Di’s way of handling things, and whenever she didn’t know how to solve a problem, she would consult Wu Di in the evening. Wu Di would teach her the right approaches and how to handle specific situations.
As Shao Han learned and executed, she felt herself maturing and growing. She was glad to be able to help Wu Di with his work. Occasionally, she made small mistakes, and though Wu Di noticed them, he never criticized her. Sometimes he would encourage her, other times he would use the opportunity to playfully punish her, enjoying her adorable struggles.
Wu Di’s leg was steadily improving. Shao Han was worried about lasting effects, so she made sure he avoided unnecessary movement and fully healed. She made him consume various nourishing foods, and given the lack of exercise lately, he had gained a bit of weight. Wu Di disliked the extra flesh and would do appropriate exercises at home.
During this period, both of them had busy and tense lives.
“Wu Di received an invitation letter. It’s for a cocktail party at the headquarters. Should we go?” Shao Han reported upon returning home.
“Oh? Let me see it. I think they have this every year.”
“Okay.” Shao Han handed him the invitation letter.
“This year, there’s no way I can attend, but it would be good to send someone to make an appearance and increase our visibility.”
“How about letting Xu Zhuo go on your behalf?”
Xu Zhuo is the deputy general manager of the hotel, and Shao Han thought it might be good for him to attend.
“Hmm… I’ll think about it,” Wu Di responded. Wu Di is the kind of person who shines wherever he goes; he represents his hotel and is the best advertisement and symbol for it. How could Xu Zhuo represent him? With so many affiliated hotels, each cocktail party is a great opportunity to promote the hotel and secure better policies and benefits from the headquarters. While performance-wise, many hotels are on par, Wu Di always attended the previous cocktail parties, leaving an impression on the headquarters’ people. If he didn’t show up this time, it wouldn’t be a big deal, but it felt like missing a chance to leave a deeper impression of the hotel.
As Wu Di pondered over this, Shao Han was busy with household chores.
“Shao Han.”
“Em?”
“Can you represent me?” Wu Di looked at Shao Han. Yes, who would be more suitable than Shao Han? All dressed up, she would undoubtedly catch many people’s eyes.
But after saying this, Wu Di regretted it a bit. If Shao Han indeed became the center of attention, he wouldn’t be happy. What if some bad men targeted her?
“Me? I don’t know how to talk business.”
“You don’t need to. Your demeanor is elegant and appropriate without being overly contrived. And you’re my wife, the most representative.”
“Wow, such high praise. Normally, you always point out what’s wrong with me.”
“Well, that’s because I don’t want you to become conceited,” Wu Di said seriously. “But, what if bad men start hitting on you?”
“Ugh, then forget it, I won’t go.”
“Haha, I’m just joking.”
“You should go with Xu Zhuo,” Wu Di decided to have Shao Han represent him, with Xu Zhuo accompanying her.
“Do you really want me to go?” Shao Han was somewhat surprised.
“Yes, you should. Tomorrow, go buy a dress. Don’t embarrass me. Remember, I’m always a focal point, and people pay attention to me wherever I go. I don’t want them thinking I married someone mediocre.”
“What? You think I’d be mediocre? Hmph, okay, I’ll go have a look tomorrow,” Shao Han retorted, knowing well how to dress for various occasions given her experience.
“Another chance for you to attract men,” Wu Di teased again with a playful tone.
“Hmph, who cares about that?” Shao Han made a face at him.
The next day, while shopping for a dress, Shao Han aimed to strike a balance between elegance and modesty. After trying on several options, she chose a black dress, feeling it was a safe yet stylish choice. A simple yet distinctive dress caught her eye.
It was quite simple but very unique. The upper chest to the neckline was covered with form-fitting transparent black mesh, and from the chest down, the material was a smooth satin that hugged her body down to mid-thigh, perfectly outlining her figure. It suited Shao Han perfectly, with her sexy collarbones half-revealed, the dress showcasing her beautiful long legs, and her toned arms exposed. The shop assistant kept praising her, making it seem as though the dress was tailored just for her.
“Alright, I’ll take this one,” Shao Han said, satisfied.
Back home, Shao Han excitedly tried the dress on for Wu Di. She even found a pair of black high heels to complete the look. She usually didn’t wear very high heels, but sometimes for special occasions, a higher heel was necessary to enhance her presence.
Once she put it all on, the effect was undeniably stunning, but Wu Di felt uncomfortable.
“Did you have to buy something so sexy? I just wanted you to look elegant,” Wu Di grumbled.
“Don’t you like it?” Shao Han knew why he wasn’t pleased and moved closer to ask.
“Dressed like this, you’re obviously trying to tempt others.”
“No, I’m not. But no matter what I wear, it has this effect. What can I do?” Shao Han’s natural allure was hard to conceal.
“Bad woman, you should just stay home and not go showing yourself off,” Wu Di said indignantly.
“Fine, then I won’t go.”
Wu Di was frustrated. Even though they were joking, the thought of Shao Han being admired by other men, and mostly his inability to stand by her side like before, made him deeply uncomfortable.
Shao Han understood Wu Di’s thoughts. She walked over to him and sat down.
“In this lifetime, could I ever love anyone else besides you?”
Wu Di hugged her tightly. “Shao Han, I love you so much.” Sometimes, feelings can’t be adequately expressed with words; it’s just a feeling. All the sweet talk in the world can’t compare to a simple “I love you.”
“I love you too, so very much,” Shao Han replied with a smile in his embrace.
“I just want to have you all to myself, not share you with anyone else.”
“Well, haven’t you already got me all to yourself?”
“No, I’m afraid.”
“Afraid of what?”
“Afraid that one day you might leave me,” Wu Di confessed his inexplicable anxiety.
“Never, I will never leave you,” Shao Han reassured him. Her heart had no room for anyone else; how could she possibly leave?
“Indeed, I’m so handsome, you couldn’t find another like me,” Wu Di suddenly joked.
Shao Han laughed at his adorable demeanor. Still held tightly by him, it felt so comfortable leaning against his chest. Whenever she leaned like this, Shao Han felt she could fall asleep immediately. It was such a warm and secure feeling.
During the day, Shao Han worked, and in the evenings, she took care of Wu Di. Recently, she had been very tired, so she went to bed early. Wu Di, staying at home every day, wasn’t the least bit sleepy. He held Shao Han, watching over her until she fell asleep. Then he carefully sat up and began working on his laptop.
Wu Di had learned some basic programming, and he decided to design something to surprise Shao Han. He frowned in concentration, working diligently for a long time.
Suddenly, a smile spread across Wu Di’s face. He was pleased with himself now. He wanted Shao Han to see it the next day and be as happy as he was. He turned to look at Shao Han sleeping beside him and leaned over to give her a gentle kiss.
