For Your Happiness - Chapter 28 - Taking Care
Shao Han arrived at the hospital first, registered, and waited for Wu Di so they could see the doctor together. Shao Han couldn’t sit still, pacing back and forth in front of the hospital entrance, constantly looking in the direction where the car would come from, eager to see Wu Di.
Finally, she saw Wu Di’s car. She quickly ran over. Wu Di, from a distance, saw Shao Han too, and felt a warm sensation in his heart.
Shao Han ran straight to the back door of the car and opened it, seeing Wu Di leaning there and his injured leg. Her tears started to flow instantly.
“Hey, are you unhappy to see me? Why are you crying?” Wu Di saw her crying and hurriedly tried to cheer her up.
“How did you end up like this?” Shao Han was heartbroken, especially seeing him act as if nothing was wrong.
Seeing Shao Han so worried about him made Wu Di feel even more concerned for her. Xiao Luo and Xiao Lu got out of the car to help Wu Di down. With one person on each side, Wu Di hopped on one leg, moving with much difficulty.
“Wait, I’ll go get a wheelchair.” Shao Han said and quickly went to get one.
In a short while, Shao Han returned with a wheelchair and a nurse. Wu Di sat down and said self-deprecatingly, “I can’t believe I’m in a wheelchair.”
As Shao Han pushed him, she said to Xiao Luo and Xiao Lu, “You guys go home. I’ll take care of him. You both had a long day; it’s time to rest.”
“Are you sure you can manage on your own?” Xiao Luo was worried. After all, Wu Di was big and heavy, and Shao Han was petite. Helping Wu Di, especially if he needed to use the bathroom or something, could be a problem.
“There are caretakers here; don’t worry. If there’s an issue, I’ll call you. Go home and get some rest. It’s been a tough couple of days.”
“It’s no trouble; we’re just worried you won’t manage alone,” Xiao Lu added, also concerned.
“Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of him,” Shao Han reassured them.
“Yes, you guys should go. It’s been exhausting these past few days, and there’s still work to do.” Wu Di also urged them.
“Are you sure you’ll be okay alone?” they asked again.
“If I really need help, I’ll call someone else. Go home and rest,” Shao Han continued to reassure them.
“Alright then, we’ll be going now.”
“Okay, thanks a lot. You’ve worked hard.” Shao Han bid them farewell. Xiao Luo and Xiao Lu then left.
Shao Han stayed with Wu Di for a full set of re-examinations-X-rays, checking the wounds, reapplying medication, and re-bandaging. His leg, looking like a mummy’s, reappeared before her eyes. By the time they returned Wu Di to the ward, it was already 3 PM.
“Oh no, we forgot about lunch!” Shao Han suddenly realized. “Are you hungry? What do you want to eat? I’ll go get it.”
“I’m actually a bit hungry. I feel like having some meat. I haven’t had a good meal in days,” Wu Di said, playfully.
“Okay, I’ll go get something tasty. You rest here for a while.”
“I’ve been resting all day.”
“Ha, do you need to go to the bathroom? I can help you before I leave.”
“Are you trying to sneak a peek at me? How embarrassing.”
“Oh, whatever, there’s nothing to see.” Shao Han rolled her eyes at him.
“Something this good, and you say there’s nothing to see.”
“You…” Shao Han really wanted to smack him. The ward was a two-person room, and the other patient was not there. The two joked and laughed until they saw the other patient coming back. They quickly stopped talking. Shao Han made sure Wu Di was settled and then went to buy food.
In the days that followed, because Wu Di had trouble moving around, Shao Han stayed by his side to take care of him. She helped him clean up, supported him to the bathroom. Every time, Wu Di’s weight was fully on her shoulders, making her lose balance. No wonder-at 6’2″ and 160 jin1, it was tough to support him. Wu Di also tried to find other places to hold onto with his free hand, as he was worried Shao Han wouldn’t be able to handle it.
“Today’s weather is nice. Do you want me to push you outside for a walk?” Shao Han asked Wu Di.
“Haha, how pathetic, needing to be pushed around.”
“Yes, for the next few days, you have to be good. Otherwise, if I get mad, I’ll leave you behind and make you even more pathetic.”
“Would you really?”
“Of course.”
“So mean,” Wu Di laughed.
“By the way, did the dog stay home these days?”
“No, I took it to the pet shop.”
“Oh.”
“What? Do you miss it?”
“A little.”
“The hospital doesn’t allow pets. Just a few more days, and you’ll be discharged. Be patient.”
“Hehe.” Wu Di made a cute face. Shao Han looked at him, walked over, cupped his face in her hands, and gently kissed him on the lips.
“What are you doing? Tempting me at a time like this?”
Shao Han smiled without answering and held him in her arms. “You’ve been through so much. You don’t have to be strong in front of me. If it hurts, you can just let it out here.”
Wu Di took a deep breath in her embrace, inhaling her faint, fresh scent. It made him feel comforted, calm, and at peace.
Since his injuries weren’t too severe, Wu Di was discharged a week later to recuperate at home. When it was time to leave the hospital, Shao Han asked Xiao Luo to help. It was quite a task getting Wu Di’s large frame back home. After that, they picked up the dog, went to the market to buy meat and bones, and Shao Han busily prepared bone soup for Wu Di, believing in the traditional notion that consuming similar foods helps with healing. Wu Di could only sit on the bed, watching her bustle around.
When everything was finally settled, Shao Han walked into the room with a bowl of bone soup, smiling. “It smells really good.”
“Lying in bed all day without moving-won’t I become a big fat guy with such nourishment?”
“So be it.”
“No way, that’s too ugly.”
“Why do you need to look good? Who are you trying to attract?”
“All the beautiful women.”
“Hmph, you can’t even move and you’re still thinking about attracting women. You just lie there quietly.” Shao Han rolled her eyes at him.
“I’m getting restless. It’s so annoying to lie like this every day.”
“They say it takes a hundred days to heal bones and tendons. You’ve got a long way to go.”
“A hundred days? I’ll go crazy.”
“It’s fortunate that it wasn’t too serious. With rest, you’ll recover. At first, you really scared me.”
“I was scared too. If it had been really serious, how could I bring you happiness for the rest of your life?” Wu Di’s words were sincere.
“Haha, then I’ll just stay by your side.” As she spoke, Shao Han handed the bowl of bone soup to Wu Di and changed to a cute expression. “Want me to feed you?”
“Yes, preferably mouth-to-mouth,” Wu Di said mischievously.
“Oh, I just remembered. The doctor said you have to abstain from sex for a month.” Shao Han’s face took on a teasing look.
“See… this is the aftermath. How serious is that? It’s been hard enough holding out for these few days, and now I have to hold out for another month,” Wu Di pretended to be angry.
Seeing him like this, Shao Han couldn’t stop giggling.
Since Wu Di couldn’t take a shower yet, Shao Han had to give him sponge baths every day. It was always inconvenient at the hospital, so once they were home, Shao Han told Wu Di, “I’ll go get some hot water and give you a proper sponge bath. It always felt like I couldn’t clean you thoroughly at the hospital. Today, let’s take all your clothes off and give you a good clean. You haven’t showered in so long; you must be starting to smell.”
“Take everything off? Sure, sounds great!” Wu Di happily agreed and cooperated.
Seeing his playful demeanor, Shao Han couldn’t help but smile at him helplessly.
“You better be careful not to get me too excited,” Wu Di said deliberately.
“Why are you always so naughty?”
“Haha, this is nice. Wow, I’m all naked,” Wu Di quickly stripped down.
“…” Shao Han had no choice but to go along with him.
Carrying the hot water, Shao Han came back to find Wu Di lying there in nothing but his underwear.
“Wow, you were quick. Why didn’t you wait for me? Did you undress by yourself? Did you move your leg?”
“It’s fine. I left the last piece for you,” Wu Di replied with a mischievous grin.
Shao Han saw right through his intentions and gave him a look that was a mix of amusement and irritation. She wrung out the towel and began to gently wipe him down, starting with his face. Wu Di’s heart skipped a beat as he watched her. Shao Han glanced into his eyes and couldn’t help but give him a quick kiss.
“Don’t take advantage of a patient,” Wu Di said, worried, as he felt that familiar sensation coming back.
“Haha.” Shao Han just smiled at him and continued with the sponge bath. Her every movement was gentle, and each touch of her hand sent shivers through Wu Di’s body.
“I can’t take it anymore, stop it. This is unbearable,” Wu Di shouted.
“Huh? What’s wrong? I was being very gentle,” Shao Han asked nervously.
“Silly girl.”
Shao Han suddenly understood, blushing and smiling shyly.
“Ah… let’s change the subject.” Wu Di was terrified; this woman’s allure was too strong.
“Okay. Then tell me about your shoot and how you got injured.”
“Sure. Everything was going smoothly for the first few days. We wanted to shoot the sunrise, so we stayed on the mountain. We woke up before dawn to find the best spot to watch the sun rise. After waiting a while, we saw the sun slowly peeking over the horizon. It was really exciting. I kept thinking how great it would be if you were there. You’d love it so much; you’d be jumping and cheering. I could picture exactly how you’d react. Haha, we haven’t watched a sunrise together yet,” Wu Di said, brimming with excitement.
Shao Han smiled at him as she continued to carefully and thoroughly wipe him down. She knew Wu Di liked to be clean and couldn’t stand any odor on his body.
“Then, as the sun fully rose, we packed our stuff and started descending the mountain. Maybe there was too much morning dew; I’m not sure what happened, but my foot slipped and I fell. I rolled a short distance and was stopped by a pine tree. My leg hurt immediately, likely from hitting a rock when I fell. Xiao Luo and the others tried to help me up, but I could feel that my left calf couldn’t bear any weight. I knew it had to be a bone injury. They had a hard time getting me to the stretcher, and we descended on it. As soon as we got down, we went straight to the hospital. You know the rest.”
“Were you not paying attention because you were tired? Everyone else was fine, but you got hurt.”
“Haha, maybe.”
“You really worry me.”
“I was pretty scared at the time too. What if the pine tree hadn’t stopped me? Would I have broken several bones?” Wu Di wondered, a touch of fear in his voice.
“That was lucky.”
Shao Han gently wiped down his injured leg. Then, feeling a bit shy, she asked Wu Di if he wanted her to clean… elsewhere.
Wu Di smiled and blushed a little, “Never mind, I’ll do it myself. What if you get me excited again?”
“You rascal.”
