For Your Happiness - Chapter 25 - The Second Failure
By now, Wu Di had already guessed what the video was about. He knew that Xu Jing wouldn’t let him off easily, and he also understood that Xu Jing couldn’t do anything directly to him, so she chose to target Shao Han instead.
On this day, Xu Jing was also feeling anxious. Since she was quite familiar with Xiao Zhang, she judged that Shao Han would receive the CD today. So, just before the end of the workday, Xu Jing gave Xiao Zhang a call.
“Xiao Zhang, how have you been lately? How are things with Wu Di’s wife?” Xu Jing asked, pretending to be concerned.
“Haha, not bad.” Xiao Zhang found it curious that Xu Jing would suddenly call her out of the blue to ask about this.
“Oh, I’ve met her; she seems quite nice, always smiling as if she has a very good temper,” Xu Jing said, trying to gauge Shao Han’s mood through Xiao Zhang. She believed Shao Han wouldn’t be calm after receiving such a video.
“Yeah, that’s right. Every day she’s showing off her love with General Manager Wu for everyone to see, as if performing for an audience,” Xiao Zhang said with a hint of jealousy.
“Really?” Xu Jing hesitated to directly ask about Shao Han’s mood today, fearing it would be too abrupt.
“Yeah, I’ve never seen them argue.”
“Oh. Last night, I had a meeting with Wu Di, and he got home a bit late. I even joked that he shouldn’t get locked out by his wife,” Xu Jing said, trying to steer the conversation.
“Probably not. I saw them having lunch together today, chatting and laughing. Shao Han is a very capable person, never showing her emotions,” Xiao Zhang remarked thoughtfully.
“Oh, so… nothing happened with them today?” Xu Jing couldn’t resist asking directly.
“Nope, didn’t seem like anything was wrong with them.”
“Oh, haha, I didn’t have much to ask. Just wanted to talk about the financials for the collaboration Wu Di mentioned yesterday. But we ended up not discussing anything serious. Anyway, I’ll have someone from our finance department contact you another day.” Xu Jing was somewhat disappointed, not getting the information she wanted, yet even more curious.
“Alright then.” Xiao Zhang hung up, still puzzled. General Manager Xu wouldn’t call personally just for this sort of thing, right? Really strange, she thought, shaking her head.
Xu Jing paced back and forth in front of her desk, pondering whether Shao Han had received the package. How could there be no reaction at all?
When Wu Di clicked to open the file, he wondered how Shao Han would react. Should he try to explain first? Never mind, let’s just open it, he thought, bracing himself for the worst.
He pressed the play button.
There it was… Unsurprisingly, it was that video.
Shao Han’s heart started pounding as she saw the two people on the screen. Wu Di stayed silent, knowing that trying to explain at this moment would only complicate things. It was better to wait for Shao Han’s questions.
Shao Han wasn’t one to act impulsively. After watching the video, she sat quietly for a few seconds without saying anything, then turned to Wu Di with an awkward smile. She understood that Wu Di hadn’t betrayed her, but seeing him kiss another woman made her feel very uncomfortable.
“Shao Han…” Wu Di, though not feeling guilty, was still somewhat embarrassed. Seeing Shao Han smile like that made him even more anxious.
“Yes?” Shao Han hadn’t yet decided how to discuss this matter with him.
“I was forced,” Wu Di said softly, lowering his head like a wronged little boy.
“Hahaha, the Chinese version of ‘Disclosure’?” Shao Han asked Wu Di meaningfully.
“Didn’t I prove my innocence last night?” Wu Di shyly reached out and pulled Shao Han into his arms.
“You’re so bad.”
“I didn’t do anything. She insisted, even tried to trick me into her room. I was good, didn’t go along with her. So… I had to come up with this way to get out of it. She cut out the part where I left. She’s the bad one.” Wu Di carefully explained.
“Aren’t you afraid I won’t believe you?”
“I am, but I know you’ll believe me.” Wu Di held Shao Han tightly. He was indeed afraid-afraid she wouldn’t trust him, afraid she would be hurt, afraid she would be angry.
“Yes, I am angry,” Shao Han said in a low voice.
“Don’t believe everything you see on the surface. Sometimes, what you see with your eyes may not be the truth,” Wu Di said sadly, resting his face against Shao Han’s head and inhaling her scent. He was deeply worried that Shao Han might actually believe what she saw. He didn’t want that outcome, knowing that Shao Han’s unusual calmness in the face of major issues was not a good sign.
Shao Han didn’t actually distrust him. She had found his unusual behavior last night a bit strange, but now she knew there was a reason behind it. It must be that Wu Di loves her so much that he expresses it in his unique ways. He wouldn’t go out of his way to make excuses or boast about his fidelity; he just needs her to feel it with her heart.
“Why did you kiss with such passion? Were you getting caught up in the act?” Shao Han didn’t want to tease him anymore. From the intensity of his embrace, she knew he was scared-afraid she might misunderstand him.
When Wu Di heard her say that, he understood what she meant. A warm rush filled his heart, almost bringing tears to his eyes. A smile broke out on his face. He loved her so much that he hugged her even tighter, adopting a playful expression.
“Well, how else was I supposed to escape? Your husband’s kissing skills are top-notch.”
“Ah… How can you say that? Go brush your teeth. You’re punished to brush a hundred times.”
“A hundred times? I’ll brush my teeth raw,” Wu Di said, eyes wide.
“Otherwise, no more kisses from now on,” Shao Han pouted.
Wu Di seized the opportunity and quickly kissed her.
“Ah…” Shao Han hurriedly tried to cover her mouth with her hands, but Wu Di wouldn’t let her go. He grabbed her hands and kissed her deeply. Shao Han laughed but resisted, then suddenly bit his tongue.
“Mm, mm…” Wu Di looked at her with wide eyes.
Shao Han laughed and let go. Wu Di kissed her deeply and passionately. It was a kiss filled with release, love, and trust for each other. It felt truly wonderful.
“Have you forgiven me?” Wu Di reluctantly broke away from her lips.
“Did it feel good kissing her?” Shao Han asked, jealous, looking into his eyes.
“I don’t know. At that time, all I could think about was how to escape.”
“Hmph, you’re lying. You just don’t want to tell me.”
“Haha, no, really,” Wu Di said, looking at her.
“It feels so strange seeing you getting intimate with another woman.”
“Of course it does. If I saw you with another man, I’d go crazy.”
“And what if I were doing it to escape too?”
“Still not allowed.” With that, Wu Di pulled Shao Han tightly into his arms. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have kissed her. I’m really sorry.”
“Even though I know why you kissed her, it still makes me feel terrible,” Shao Han said, pouting.
“I know, and I’m really sorry. I promise, I’ll never see her again.” Wu Di meant every word. He loved Shao Han so much that he never wanted to make her sad again.
Shao Han held Wu Di, unsure of how she felt inside. But she trusted him and loved him, so much so that she’d follow him to the ends of the earth if she had to. It was as though their love was encased in an invisible shield, protecting it from any external harm or disruption. Their enchanting world of love was impenetrable by anyone.
This was an outcome Xu Jing never anticipated. Not only did her scheme fail to break them apart, but it actually strengthened their bond. She figured that even if Shao Han pretended not to care in public, Wu Di would at least call to blame her. That would have at least indicated a quarrel or some anger between them. But…
Wu Di would never call Xu Jing again. To him, as long as Shao Han wasn’t hurt, nothing else mattered. This little test, although it unsettled him, proved Shao Han’s trust in him and their mutual love.
This result was enough to satisfy Wu Di. In a strange way, he felt grateful to Xu Jing for creating this small disturbance. As for everything else, he didn’t bother thinking about it. Those people were no longer part of his life.
