- Chapter 71 - The Agreement at the Duke's Mansion 1
That night, in the courtyard of the Duke’s Mansion, the warm night breeze carried the fragrance of night-blooming flowers, adding an enchanting touch to the cozy and tranquil little space. Liu Feng and Atta had wisely returned to their own rooms to rest, leaving the time for their lovers, whom they had not seen for a long time.
Riding the night wind, with a contented expression on his face, Tianxiang listened to the four women chatting carefreely. Their sweet whispers, like silver bells and yellow orioles, danced around his ears. Tianxiang didn’t want to listen too closely to what they were talking about; he just wanted to relax and enjoy this rare tranquility and warmth.
Perhaps, under the cover of night, the silence at this moment spoke louder than words, perfectly reflecting Tianxiang’s current state of mind!
The topics of conversation among the four women inevitably revolved around Tianxiang, as if they were trying to piece together a complete picture of him. Feng Xuewu began recounting her childhood memories with Tianxiang, when he protected her with his body against the jaws of danger-a sweet recollection filled with blood and soul-stirring emotions. Yue Lianxuan then shared the story of how Tianxiang rescued her, an unforgettable night, and the sweet melodies and smiles that stirred her heart.
Yingdie hesitated, trying to brush past her own embarrassing memories with Tianxiang, unable to articulate the shy past between them. The more she dodged, the more the other three pressed her, and finally, under their relentless teasing, Yingdie surrendered. When she finished speaking, all four women had flushed cheeks, their minds wandering into various romantic imaginings. The three women then looked at Yingdie with mischievous smiles, causing her to squirm shyly, exposing her youthful heart.
Amid their laughter, Youni spoke up about her fragmented experiences with Tianxiang, particularly in Sunset City. His fearless demeanor had captured her heart, and the battle with the dark rat dragon had almost left her heartbroken, nearly causing her to sacrifice herself to save him, only to be dissuaded later by Xina’s reminder regarding the dark angel necklace.
Inadvertently bringing up the topic of the Xina necklace, the four women discovered that three of them had been recognized as the owners of the ice necklace, light necklace, and dark necklace. Although they didn’t know what mission awaited them in the future, they had already decided to shoulder this unknown destiny together.
Seeing Tianxiang lost in thought, Yue Lianxuan curiously asked, “Brother Xiang, what are you thinking about?” The other three women paused their conversation, ready to hear Tianxiang’s response.
Tianxiang replied, “Actually, it’s nothing much. I was just reminiscing about some past events.”
Feng Xuewu asked, “What events?”
Sighing, Tianxiang said, “The deaths of my master, Grandfather Willi, and Huci really gave me a deep and harsh understanding of this world. I grew to loathe the wicked people who commit countless wrongs, resorting to violence to counteract violence. Until I lost all my martial arts skills and became unrecognizable, I was once so disappointed in my life that I wandered aimlessly, wanting nothing more than to give up. Reuniting with my parents and understanding the sacrifices they made for me finally helped me grasp the meaning of family-it’s not about hatred, but about continuing the legacy of selfless love.”
The women found themselves drawn into Tianxiang’s emotions, falling silent as they listened. Tianxiang continued, “It was just now that I finally understood. I had been running away from the unpleasant things and overlooked the most important people by my side-you. I realized how selfish I’ve been regarding your feelings and kindness.”
Without realizing it, the women’s eyes turned red, and their noses tinged with emotion, yet they felt a sense of joy. After such a long wait, they finally understood Tianxiang’s heart, confirming his feelings for them.
It seemed as if Tianxiang wanted to pour out everything from his heart. He spoke firmly, “But I won’t do that anymore. I won’t ignore your presence and feelings again. No matter how unpredictable the future may be, I believe that all of you will remain in my heart, unwavering and true.”
With these words, the hidden chasm between Tianxiang and the four women was finally bridged, leaving no cracks behind.
Overcome with joy, the women gazed affectionately at Tianxiang, not hiding their true feelings. Meanwhile, Tianxiang sincerely wiped away their joyful tears and embraced each of them warmly and genuinely.
The night sky was filled with twinkling stars, reflecting the tear-filled eyes of the four women around Tianxiang, revealing glimmers of love and joy. This radiant sight illuminated their hearts, creating a dreamlike, intoxicating atmosphere. The group remained sleepless, leaning against the grass, embraced by the night breeze, silently savoring the most enchanting and rich evening as they awaited the dawn of a new beginning.
The following morning, Liu Feng and Atta came to find Tianxiang together. Upon seeing him blissfully interacting with the four women, they felt happy for him but also shouted in jest, “This isn’t fair!” If someone who didn’t know better looked at Liu Feng and Atta, they might think they had an unusual relationship, always attached at the hip.
On the other hand, Tianxiang noticed Liu Feng and Atta approaching and stood up to greet them. “Good morning!”
Feigning surprise, Liu Feng remarked, “Boss, aren’t you a bit too strong? Under the heavens as your blanket and the earth as your bed, and you manage to win over four sisters-in-law!”
Although Feng Xuewu hadn’t slept a wink all night, she chimed in, “Liu Feng, you really can’t speak nicely, can you?” The other three women quickly nodded in agreement.
Liu Feng muttered, “If a dog could spit out ivory, it would be a miracle of the world.” He then added, “Yes, yes! Sister-in-law, you have a point.” He emphasized the term “sister-in-law,” causing Feng Xuewu’s cheeks to flush with shyness. She was at a loss for words, unsure whether to reply or let it go, feeling that ignoring him would be too generous.
At this moment, Yue Lianxuan stepped in to save Feng Xuewu by saying, “Don’t mind him. Let’s go freshen up first. Later, we want Brother Xiang to take us around Saint Kai!”
As Tianxiang smiled and nodded in agreement, Feng Xuewu gave a playful huff, and the four women returned to their respective rooms.
Liu Feng looked Tianxiang up and down and said, “Boss, you really have changed. You’re no longer like before. You may have laughed and joked with us on the surface, but deep down, you always kept everyone at arm’s length.”
Tianxiang replied, “A lot has happened recently, and it all came too fast for me to truly settle down. But after last night, I’ve come to terms with things.”
Seeing Tianxiang relaxed and joking, Atta extended his right hand and said, “No matter what, welcome back.”
Tianxiang also reached out his right hand to shake Atta’s firmly while saying, “Yes, your good brother, Tianxiang, is truly back in both body and spirit.”
Liu Feng placed his right hand on top of theirs and excitedly exclaimed, “Good brothers! Good brothers!”
The three exchanged glances, their deep bond evident to one another, and they burst into hearty laughter, expressing the joy in their hearts.
Applause rang out as Duke Dark arrived. He said, “Seeing you all like this reminds me of my younger days. Ah, time really doesn’t spare anyone! It’s hard to believe so much time has passed.”
Upon noticing the duke’s presence, Liu Feng and Atta immediately straightened up, while Tianxiang remained his usual calm self. The duke observed their demeanor and said, “Don’t be so restrained. Just treat me like your elder.” After a pause, he continued, “I’ve heard that you were attacked by members of the Flower Moon Alliance, and they intended to take Xiao Xue and the other girls, is that right?”
Liu Feng replied respectfully, “Yes, that’s correct!”
The duke spoke as if to himself, yet it was clearly directed at the three of them when he said, “Who could it possibly be?”
The three exchanged glances, and it was Liu Feng who spoke again. “We suspect it might be the Seventh Prince, Sheng Yatian!”
Having heard of Sheng Yatian’s poor reputation, the duke was not surprised and said with a hint of indifference, “It really does involve someone from the royal family!” After saying this, he raised his head to gaze at the hazy horizon that was tinged with gold.
Tianxiang empathized with the duke’s position, carefully considering the entire situation and understanding the duke’s helplessness and contradictions. He said, “Let’s treat it as if this incident never happened. I’ll explain it to Xiao Xue and the others.”
The duke patted Tianxiang on the shoulder, giving him a reassuring smile. “Let’s do it that way! I still need to visit the Palace. You all should take Xiao Xue and the others out for some fun today!”
Atta asked in confusion, “Why does this matter just end like this?”
Tianxiang said, “If you were the duke, would you offend the royal family over something that has no proof or evidence? And what if evidence were to be found later? After all, the duke has to think about the reputation of both the Duke’s Mansion and the Saint Kai royal family. In the end, it’s better to let it go.”
The three fell silent, the atmosphere suddenly heavy. When Feng Xuewu and the others arrived, Tianxiang explained the situation to them. Although the women were initially furious, they eventually understood the larger stakes involved. Tianxiang suggested that they spend the day shopping until they were completely satisfied, which helped to ease their anger. Meanwhile, Liu Feng and Atta found themselves reluctantly joining the outing due to a shortage of staff.
As they walked along, Liu Feng and Atta thought to themselves that not only was their younger brother in a difficult position, but even the future son-in-law was facing challenges!
Saint Kai City is divided into nine districts by four major roads. The Palace sits at the center, overseeing the various districts, surrounded by a gently flowing moat. Each district has its own unique characteristics. The East District is known for education and culture, home to Saint Kai Academy located on its outskirts.
The North District is the military zone, where the Imperial Guards and new recruits of Saint Kai gather for training.
The South District features bustling commercial and residential areas, thriving with business and lively crowds, equally beautiful and vibrant by day and night.
The West District hosts various guilds, diplomatic missions, and the grand residences of nobles, making it the second highest in military presence after the Palace.
Tianxiang and his group entered the South District’s most famous shopping street, Ails Street. They looked at the throngs of people, the vibrant noise of vendors, and the dazzling array of goods, creating the illusion that the entire world was gathered here.
For women, accessories and clothing hold a significant and irresistible allure, and Feng Xuewu and Youni were no exceptions. As they explored the shopping scene, the four women dove into the sea of products, visiting store after store, seemingly tireless like superheroes. Among them, Yue Lianxuan stood out the most; despite her delicate appearance, she had the natural talent of a born merchant. With her articulate speech, expressive demeanor, and unbeatable bargaining skills, she earned the nickname “store killer” among the four.
Looking at the various bags filled with their spoils, Liu Feng and Atta exchanged wry smiles. Tianxiang, however, found the girls’ enthusiasm novel and interesting, observing them with curiosity.
Liu Feng said in fear, “I don’t think I’ll ever dare to go shopping with a group of girls again.”
Atta chimed in, “Boss, you’ve got your work cut out for you from now on.”
Soon, the girls forged ahead again, placing their bags in front of Tianxiang and the others. Yue Lianxuan rubbed her arms and said, “My arms are so sore! Even though there are still plenty of things we haven’t bought, I think we should take a break for now.”
With a flushed face, Feng Xuewu wiped the sweat from her forehead and suggested, “Alright, let’s go to Xuehong Lou.”
Xuehong Lou is a well-known restaurant in Saint Kai City, designed and built by the prominent space artist Yi Danyu. The spacious three-story building offers breathtaking views from every angle, giving a sense of aesthetic enjoyment that’s unforgettable. The place features bright and clean windows, intricately carved beams, and a unique elegance that blends freshness with opulence. Despite being able to accommodate up to a thousand guests, it never feels crowded. Moreover, Xuehong Lou offers a range of prices that cater to everyone-from common folk to palace nobles-serving everything from simple home-cooked meals to exquisite delicacies. Therefore, it is always bustling with patrons, with no empty seats available.
After Tianxiang stored the girls’ purchases in the dimensional space, the group arrived at Xuehong Lou. Tianxiang noticed that Xuehong Lou had a completely different feel from a mysterious paradise, yet both had their allure-one akin to a shy maiden, waiting to be picked; the other like a gentle mother, inviting you into her embrace.
They chose a large table by the window on the second floor. Under the guidance of a servant, Tianxiang, with his graceful demeanor, Feng Xuewu, radiant and confident, Youni, exuding ethereal purity, Yue Lianxuan, delicate and charming, Yingdie, mysterious and serene, and even Atta and Liu Feng with their distinctive qualities, all drew the attention of the other diners at Xuehong Lou. Despite their initial discomfort, the group finally settled in at their table.
After a moment, the second floor returned to its previous lively chatter. Suddenly, a hush fell over the room, creating a stark contrast between the noise and silence that made Tianxiang and the others curiously glance towards the stairway. Six individuals emerged, and a shared thought surged through Tianxiang’s group: “How could it be them?”
The polite and handsome Sixth Prince, Sheng Dike, stood out alongside the equally good-looking, yet detestable, Seventh Prince, Sheng Yatian. Accompanying them were Feng Xuewu’s older brother, Dark Yiye, the entangled Ziqin who had complex ties with Tianxiang, the nimble and charming priest, Shasha Jia, and last but not least, an old dwarf, whose every gesture exuded the grace of a Grandmaster.
Just as Tianxiang and the old dwarf’s eyes met, both felt a jolt within. Although their appearances were different, the old dwarf’s eyes were filled with wisdom and a deep understanding of life’s complexities, confirming for Tianxiang that this was Old Rick, the man he knew by the name of Old Heaton. It was surprising to encounter him here after such a roundabout journey. Youni felt an inkling of familiarity as well, though she couldn’t quite place it.
Yiye was the first to notice Feng Xuewu and her companions, approaching them to greet. Ziqin and Shasha Jia looked delightfully at their sisterly friend, Feng Xuewu, while the others followed closely behind.
“Xiao Xue, it’s been a while!” Yiye said with concern. “Tianxiang, you’re here too!” Tianxiang smiled and nodded in response.
“Since we all know each other, why not turn this into a gathering? Today, I’ll treat everyone; please, consider it an honor,” Sheng Dike offered, choosing a table next to them and inviting everyone to sit.
The notoriously infamous Sheng Yatian added, “Given our status, how can we just sit here? Not to mention, with Xiaoxue present, we ought to be in the top private room on the third floor!”
His words elicited furrowed brows and flashes of disdain from the diners around them. Only Tianxiang and Old Rick maintained their previous expressions, showing no reaction to the comment. This caught Sheng Dike’s attention; Old Rick would hardly react to trivial matters, but the young man, who seemed about the same age as him, remained composed and reserved, displaying emotions that couldn’t be easily read-an impressive quality.
A sudden thought flashed through Sheng Dike’s mind, and he immediately reprimanded, “What are you saying? There’s no difference in status here. If they can eat and drink, so can we. If you don’t like it, you can leave right now; I don’t think anyone would stop you.” His words earned him the approval of everyone present.
Sheng Yatian’s mood fluctuated, and after turning over several thoughts in his mind, he finally sat down, albeit reluctantly.
The rectangular table had a rather unusual seating arrangement. Old Rick, who usually preferred to stay away from others, surprisingly took a seat first, sitting next to Tianxiang. This puzzled everyone. Next to him were Sheng Dike, Sheng Yatian, Yiye, Liu Feng, and Atta. Shasha Jia took a seat between Atta and Ziqin, while Ziqin sat next to Feng Xuewu, facing Tianxiang.
It was the afternoon, and everyone ordered tea and snacks, starting a casual conversation. However, Sheng Yatian’s leering gaze, shamelessly lingering on the young women, dampened their spirits significantly.
Sheng Dike, displaying the charm of royalty while being approachable, introduced himself, saying, “Let me introduce myself first. I am Sheng Dike, a third-year student in the Magic and Martial Arts Class at Saint Kai Academy. I believe you all already know my other identity, so I won’t mention it.” His statement clarified that he was here as a student rather than as a prince.
Continuing with respect, Sheng Dike introduced, “This is Old Rick, a master of forging from the dwarf race. It was my Eldest Brother, Yiye, who went through great lengths to bring him back, allowing us the honor of meeting the master’s prowess.” Old Rick maintained a neutral expression, revealing no emotions as he gave a slight nod, signaling the end of his response.
