Exorcist Master - Chapter 80 - Sacred Mountain in Myanmar (Part XXXIV)
While Chen Shaoxian and the others were talking, the cloud had drifted far away, and the rumbling thunder had subsided considerably. To avoid any delay, Song Yumu led the way, with Wang Quanpeng supporting Chen Shaoxian as they walked behind him.
The group moved forward along the charred road, stepping over fissures that were still smoking. Out of curiosity, Chen Shaoxian leaned down to take a look. The deepest part of the fissures had sparks flickering, revealing something squirming and on fire. With a closer look, Chen Shaoxian was startled; the squirming, flaming objects appeared to be human torsos, and there were many of them.
They seemed to be arranged such that one held onto the feet of the one in front, forming rows intertwined like a spider web.
Having realized this, Chen Shaoxian took a sharp breath, thinking, “How many people perished here?” This was followed by a feeling of dread: “It’s a good thing we used the landmine exorcism spell, anything else might not have worked.”
Supported by Wang Quanpeng, Chen Shaoxian continued forward, peering into each fissure they passed. Almost every fissure contained similar sights, and Chen Shaoxian silently counted his blessings.
The group moved much faster than the cloud, soon catching up with it, now reduced to the size of a balloon.
Lightning still struck from the cloud, but it was now as thin as a toothpick, and the sound had quieted to a crackling buzz.
The lightning struck the white bone claws below, merely causing a few black marks as if it were tickling them. The bone claws creaked but seemed unharmed, still swaying and clawing at the air as if bidding farewell to the cloud.
Soon, the yellow cloud disappeared.
Perhaps related to the cloud, the previously foggy surroundings became much clearer after its appearance, significantly increasing visibility. The flashlight beam now extended about four times farther than before.
Song Yumu adjusted his flashlight to the highest setting, casting a bright beam in front of everyone. Excitedly, Song Yumu said, “Shaoxian, look!”
Chen Shaoxian followed the beam of light and indeed saw an earthen slope appear unexpectedly about fifty meters ahead. However, the slope’s gradient was too slight to climb easily. It seemed that the Japanese army did not pile waste earth on this side but instead dug straight up and down. Chen Shaoxian said to Song Yumu, “It looks like we’re off the path a bit; there should be a way up.” He then glanced at the still-unconscious Xiao Zhuang and Elena, adding, “We can still make it up there, but…”
Song Yumu interrupted him, saying, “Shaoxian, you’re underestimating us. Let me show you our skills. However, those things ahead are a bit troublesome.”
Chen Shaoxian looked at the dense bone claws in front and was at a loss. In his current state, he could barely walk. If he tried another landmine exorcism spell, he’d be exhausted before completing half of it.
Out of habit, Chen Shaoxian reached into his pocket for a cigarette and suddenly felt two hard grenades. He had taken these from Xiao Zhuang after he had passed out. He slapped his forehead, saying, “I’m really stupid.”
His actions startled the others.
Chen Shaoxian asked, “How many grenades do we have left?”
Everyone pooled their grenades together; including Chen Shaoxian’s, there were only seven. Looking at the mere seven grenades, Chen Shaoxian asked, “Song-Ge, what’s the blast range of these?”
“The effective range is about five to six meters, with a wide shockwave radius. If there’s no cover around, it’s about ten meters,” Song Yumu replied.
“That’s enough,” Chen Shaoxian gritted his teeth and said, “If the positioning is precise, we can keep two for error correction. If any are missed, we’ll use the evil-slaying blade.”
Nie Wei suddenly had an idea and said, “We can carve a cross into the bullet heads to turn them into hollow-point bullets.”
Everyone thought it was a good idea, so they began to work diligently.
Chen Shaoxian was curious to try but was stopped by Song Yumu, who indicated that if he tried, they’d probably end up with another wounded member.
So Chen Shaoxian watched the others work.
There weren’t many bullets left to begin with, but with a team of elite special forces members, they quickly modified all the bullets.
Song Yumu even tested one for effectiveness. The bullet exploded upon hitting a bone, shattering it completely. The cinnabar inside splattered onto the surrounding bone claws, burning and smoking into charred spots.
Chen Shaoxian nodded in satisfaction, enviously saying, “High-tech really is the best.”
