Exorcist Master - Chapter 78 - Sacred Mountain in Myanmar (Part XXXII)
Chen Shaoxian had a theory. Based on everything that had happened so far, he suspected that the place they were in could actually devour living creatures. The large tree was absorbing nutrients from this place, with the Mahoraga and these pythons parasitically living on it, forming a biological chain. If the Mahoraga were really killed by the fire, it would disrupt this balance, and who knew what the consequences would be.
Another reason was that this Mahoraga might be the last one of its kind in the world. Unless it was absolutely necessary, Chen Shaoxian didn’t want to take its life.
The group cautiously bypassed the Mahoraga that was still thrashing on the ground. Suddenly, Chen Shaoxian stopped, pulled out a small bottle from his bag, and tossed a few pills next to the Mahoraga before quickly moving on.
The Mahoraga stopped thrashing and flicked its tongue to touch the pills that had fallen on the soil. It then sucked the pills into its mouth and lay still.
The sight of bone claws protruding from the ground ahead made everyone’s skin crawl.
Chen Shaoxian took out the talisman paper he had retrieved from the shrine, bit his middle finger to trace over the indistinct runes, and attached the talisman paper to the tip of a bamboo spear. Turning to the others, he instructed, “Stay close. If you’re caught, use the evil-slaying blade to cut.” With that, he extended the bamboo spear forward.
As soon as the bamboo spear was extended, the bone claws in that area froze, standing straight on the ground. Chen Shaoxian shouted, “Let’s go,” and strode forward, cutting through the bone claws ahead with the evil-slaying blade in his hand.
Song Yumu closely followed Chen Shaoxian, dealing with any missed bone claws, while the others cleared the bone claws to the sides with their evil-slaying blades. The sound of cracking was incessant.
Chen Shaoxian kept his eyes fixed on the talisman paper on the bamboo spear. The color of the blood-painted runes was gradually fading, and the talisman paper was slowly turning charred and dry.
Chen Shaoxian felt a surge of anxiety as he looked at the withered talisman paper. Quickly, he extended the bamboo spear, bit his tongue, and sprayed the heart’s blood onto the dry yellow talisman paper. The moment the blood touched the paper, it sizzled, emitting a puff of blue smoke as if the paper was a red-hot iron, not just a sheet of paper.
“Run!” Chen Shaoxian shouted, no longer bothering to hack at the bone claws at his feet, and started running. A group of people began to run as if in a marathon.
As the talisman paper continued to emit blue smoke, it became drier, and the edges started to curl, slowly turning from yellow to charred black. Sweat was already beading on Chen Shaoxian’s forehead.
With a ‘puff,’ the talisman burned to black ash, and at the same time, the bone claws on the ground lunged at the people, who frantically chopped at the claws reaching for them.
Their pace slowed down instantly, and several of them had their calves gruesomely clawed, bleeding profusely.
If they couldn’t find a way out soon, they were likely to be completely wiped out.
Chen Shaoxian threw away the bamboo spear, chopped off two bone claws, and then with the evil-slaying blade, harshly sliced his middle finger. Blood surged out immediately. He squatted down, used the blood flowing from his finger to draw a soul-suppressing talisman in the mud, and loudly recited: “May the righteous energy of the Yuan Emperor merge with me, unify the heavens, the constant cycle of day and night, the great Kui and the greedy wolf, drive out demons, break resentment, suppress.” Then, he crossed his fingers and slammed his hands down onto the ground.
Everyone heard a thunderous noise and then saw a white wave of energy emanate from where Chen Shaoxian’s hands pressed against the ground, centered around them.
Any bone claws swept by the wave instantly burst into flames, leaving the group staring in astonishment.
Chen Shaoxian’s form staggered as he knelt on the ground, but fortunately, Song Yumu reacted quickly, catching him. It was only then that Song Yumu noticed that Chen Shaoxian was drenched in sweat, gasping heavily, his face deathly pale. Song Yumu asked with concern, “Shaoxian, are you alright?”
Chen Shaoxian waved his hand, barely managing to stand, and said hoarsely, “Quick, keep running.”
Hearing this, Song Yumu yelled to the people behind him, “Run!” Then, supporting Chen Shaoxian, he sprinted desperately.
But the range of the wave was limited, and they hadn’t run far before they encountered another field of unsteady white bone claws.
Chen Shaoxian gritted his teeth and turned to Song Yumu, saying, “Song-Ge, the rest is up to you. If you keep running forward, there’s bound to be a way out.”
Song Yumu was taken aback and exclaimed, “Shaoxian, what are you planning to do?”
Ignoring Song Yumu, Chen Shaoxian took a deep breath and retrieved the five thunder talisman from his bag. Holding the talisman in his right hand, he formed a gesture with his left hand by bending his middle and ring fingers, pressing his thumb against his little and index fingers, and loudly intoned, “In reverence to the Lord of Yang Thunder, who manifests in the five directions as the divine spirits of earth, respond from all sides, cleanse and dispel impurities and evil, yellow lightning and azure energy, earth thunder to vanquish evil, extinguish.”
He then gathered energy in his chest, forcefully struck the five thunder talisman with his left hand. At the moment of impact, Chen Shaoxian felt all his energy being drained into the talisman in his right hand. With all his strength, he hurled the talisman forward, thinking, “I hope what’s recorded in the old man’s book helps.”
