Escape Filming Location - Chapter 17 - Escape from Yuxi Village
The hammer drew an arc and smashed onto the Death Ritual Stele. Immediately, a faint cracking sound echoed in front of him.
However, what Hawkeye saw was entirely different.
He saw Qian Cangyi raise the hammer, but halfway through the swing, it stopped in mid-air.
The Dark Shadows on the open ground began to tremble, with very noticeable jagged edges appearing.
“It’s working, keep going!” Hawkeye shouted, grabbing a hammer and running over.
Qian Cangyi took a deep breath and was about to strike again when suddenly, the Dark Shadow in front of him stood up, like a piece of paper rising.
The standing Dark Shadow grabbed Qian Cangyi, and he immediately felt weak all over.
He still mustered his last bit of strength to swing the hammer, but… the hammer fell directly to the ground.
“What!” Qian Cangyi was shocked.
The hammer didn’t slip from his hand; it fell straight from above his head, passing through his body.
The Dark Shadow’s attack left Qian Cangyi sprawled on the ground.
In Act One of the script, Bian Zhe encountered the same kind of attack.
Qian Cangyi felt utterly powerless. He forced his eyes open, reaching for the hammer beside him, but his hand passed right through it.
He couldn’t touch the hammer, as if it wasn’t in the same world as him.
It’s over…
Qian Cangyi tried again, with the same result.
On the other side, Hawkeye had already run over, with Dark Shadows intercepting him.
After the Death Ritual Stele was struck, the Dark Shadows’ movements were significantly affected.
The Dark Shadow that had stood up disappeared after attacking Qian Cangyi. The remaining Dark Shadows seemed to be recovering, taking a second before sliding towards Hawkeye.
Seeing the Dark Shadows surrounding him, Hawkeye stomped his right foot on the ground, propelling himself into the air.
The brief moment of being airborne was crucial, as the Dark Shadows couldn’t attack him.
Hawkeye closed his eyes and brought the hammer down heavily.
A crisp sound echoed in the open ground, as if the Death Ritual Stele was cracking.
Qian Cangyi watched as the Dark Shadows surrounding Hawkeye began to tremble violently, more so than before, unable to maintain their human forms.
However, the Dark Shadows were already waiting at the landing spot.
After landing, Hawkeye tried to dodge, but after a roll, he too was sprawled on the ground, his strength drained just like Qian Cangyi.
“Just a bit more, just a bit more!”
Qian Cangyi wanted to shout, but his voice seemed stuck in his throat. He reached for the hammer again.
This time, he could grasp it.
The flickering flame of hope reignited, but… he had no strength left. He couldn’t even lift the hammer, let alone stand up.
“Is it over…”
Qian Cangyi looked at the Dark Shadows gradually recovering, gripping the hammer tightly once more.
Suddenly, a pair of small feet appeared in front of him, a child’s feet.
Qian Cangyi looked up and saw a young face.
It was Li Ling’s face. Behind Li Ling, more and more figures appeared.
The villagers of Yuxi Village gathered around him, reaching out to him.
With the villagers’ help, Qian Cangyi stood up. Then, the strong villagers lifted his hands holding the hammer.
He knew the villagers couldn’t touch the hammer themselves, but because of the Death Ritual, they could touch him.
“Thank you for your help.”
Qian Cangyi closed his eyes.
Logically, he should see darkness, but that wasn’t the case.
The cracked Death Ritual Stele appeared in front of him, with countless incomprehensible symbols swirling around it.
With the cracked Death Ritual Stele at the center, light and dark were divided.
The villagers on Qian Cangyi’s side were light, while the Dark Shadows on the stele’s side were dark.
In the next moment, light and dark began to spin and then intertwine, like a black-and-white dartboard.
The boundary between life and death blurred at this moment.
Without hesitation, with the villagers’ help, Qian Cangyi swung the hammer at the Death Ritual Stele with all his might.
“Break!”
The black hammer hit the Death Ritual Stele precisely, delivering the final blow.
With a loud crash, the Death Ritual Stele shattered completely, unable to maintain its original shape, collapsing like a house of cards.
At the same time, the villagers of Yuxi Village vanished entirely.
Without the villagers’ support, Qian Cangyi fell to the ground again, the hammer landing beside him.
“Did we survive?”
Qian Cangyi asked himself, unsure of the answer.
In front of him, the shattered Death Ritual Stele revealed its true form. The upper part was broken into small pieces, while about a third of the lower part remained intact.
In the distance, the last bit of twilight disappeared.
Night fully descended.
The strength that had been drained was returning to him. Qian Cangyi’s face lit up with joy as he pushed himself up.
Hawkeye also stood up.
A red lightning bolt streaked across the sky, illuminating the night.
The shattered Death Ritual Stele began to change, the intact part gradually forming into a fully black human figure, like a mannequin in a store.
The Black Body, after forming, walked towards them, but it wobbled, seemingly not yet accustomed to its new body.
“What is that?” Qian Cangyi’s eyes were filled with terror.
“Run!” Hawkeye shouted, then ran towards the village entrance.
At this moment, the Black Body faced Qian Cangyi, revealing a crescent-shaped smile.
Seeing this smile, Qian Cangyi felt as if he had fallen into an ice cave.
Hawkeye grabbed Qian Cangyi’s arm, dragging him towards the village entrance.
Qian Cangyi snapped out of it, trying to keep up with Hawkeye’s pace.
Although his strength had returned, the fatigue in his legs hadn’t dissipated.
Now, Qian Cangyi felt as if his legs didn’t belong to him.
After running for a while, Qian Cangyi suddenly felt a chill on his back. He quickly sped up, the sensation of something touching his back sending cold sweat down his body.
Another red lightning bolt streaked across the sky.
Taking advantage of the light, Qian Cangyi glanced back and saw the Black Body right behind him.
Hawkeye also noticed and shouted to Qian Cangyi:
“At this rate, you’ll die.”
“We have to split up. I’ll draw the ghost away and take the longer route to the village entrance. You take the shorter route and get out of here.”
“Even if the ghost chases you, I won’t come to save you. You’ll have to rely on yourself for the rest of the way.”
“Take care.”
With that, Hawkeye sped up, practically dragging Qian Cangyi along.
Qian Cangyi felt that as long as he didn’t fall, he could sprint to the village entrance.
Ahead, a fork in the road appeared, one path going left, the other right.
The left fork led uphill, while the right fork went downhill.
Hawkeye pulled Qian Cangyi towards the uphill path, the longer route.
During their investigation, they had walked through almost every place, so they quickly recognized the fork.
Returning was different from investigating.
Investigating required checking every room, but now they were heading straight for the village entrance, significantly shortening the distance.
“Okay.” Qian Cangyi nodded.
At this point, words were useless. As long as they escaped Yuxi Village, they could survive.
But could they?
Qian Cangyi didn’t know.
Hawkeye couldn’t explain now either.
The Black Body formed from the Death Ritual Stele was still chasing them relentlessly.
Another red lightning bolt streaked across the sky, illuminating the path ahead, the path to survival.
