- Chapter 205 - Which Idiot Made This Order? Are They Out of Their Mind?
Song Wanwan was eating enthusiastically when the words “wrong delivery” made her brain cells feel like they were exploding. She had already wolfed down more than half of the food-did this mean she had to spit it out? Wait a second, would the takeout guy come back and ask for the food to be returned? Song Wanwan licked the chili oil off her lips and mechanically turned to look at the three people on the bed.
She carefully studied their expressions. Perfect. Not a single crack. It seemed like the delivery really had been made to the wrong place. Song Wanwan pressed her lips together. “Are you guys reacting a little too slowly?”
“You just eat way too fast!” Ji Rou blinked with an innocent look on her face.
“So what do we do now? Spit it out?” Song Wanwan’s eyes lost focus.
“Just eat it. It’s only a bowl of spicy and sour noodles; how much could it be worth?” Xu Wei shrugged, looking unconcerned.
“This isn’t about the money! If the delivery guy comes back and asks me to give him back a bowl of spicy and sour noodles, how embarrassing would that be? Wait… how do you know it’s spicy and sour noodles?” Song Wanwan squinted at Xu Wei suspiciously.
Xu Wei exaggeratedly sniffed the air a couple of times. “I smelled it!”
That… kind of made sense. Song Wanwan’s hand, which was gripping her chopsticks, twitched. So what was she supposed to do now? Keep eating or add some water to make it look untouched? Forget it; five minutes had already passed, and the delivery guy hadn’t come back. He probably hadn’t realized, or maybe he just thought it wasn’t worth making a trip for a single bowl of spicy and sour noodles.
As Song Wanwan continued eating the noodles, she asked, “Do you guys want to try some?”
Xu Wei shook her head. “Nope, I’m not hungry.”
Ji Rou chimed in, “I don’t really like spicy food.”
Bai Yuxuan stared at Song Wanwan with a look of disapproval and said, “I’m not interested in a windfall that fell from the skies, especially not one dripping with soup.”
Song Wanwan rolled her eyes and buried her head in the bowl, finishing the spicy and sour noodles until there wasn’t a single trace left.
Fifteen minutes had passed since the takeout arrived. Suddenly, “Ding dong!” The sound startled Song Wanwan, and her fingers froze as she was scrolling through her phone. No way. Could the delivery guy have just realized now that he sent the wrong order? She had already finished the food and digested it! Her eyes darted to the three people on the bed, silently pleading for help, but their expressions perfectly and unanimously screamed, “Good luck dealing with this on your own.”
Song Wanwan quickly pulled 100 yuan out of her bag. She was determined to pay for it before the delivery guy demanded she “return” the food. She opened the door, ready to explain, but before she could say a word, the delivery guy handed her another bag of food and said, “Here’s your takeout.” Then he turned and walked away.
Song Wanwan, still in a daze, accepted a takeout order, closed the door in a fog, and walked back to her room. Just as she was suspiciously preparing to question if she was being pranked, Xu Wei quickly asked, “Did you pay him?”
Ji Rou asked with concern, “Did the delivery guy say anything? It’s just one takeout order, but what’s wrong? Did he insult you or look down on you? Why do you look so upset?”
Song Wanwan held up the takeout. “The delivery guy messed up another order.”
Bai Yuxuan smirked, “Looks like the customer didn’t receive their spicy noodles and ordered again, but still got the address wrong.”
Xu Wei nodded in agreement with Bai Yuxuan’s theory. “I love this! I hope they set our address as the default so we can keep getting free afternoon snacks.”
Song Wanwan opened the bag. “Garlic Scallops. Who wants some?” She hesitated, remembering past experiences, though she couldn’t help but lick her lips in anticipation.
Seeing Song Wanwan hesitate, Ji Rou crawled to the foot of the bed. “Help me pull the table over, I’ll eat.”
Song Wanwan dragged the rectangular table to the foot of the bed. Ji Rou sat cross-legged, picking at the scallops with chopsticks. “Xuan, these scallops don’t have any broth. Want to try?”
“Alright, I’ll give it a shot!” Bai Yuxuan scooted over to sit beside Ji Rou, using the spoon Song Wanwan had used for the spicy noodles to taste the scallops.
Song Wanwan pulled up a chair to sit across from them. Watching them enjoy the food, she picked up the chopsticks she had used earlier and joined in.
Xu Wei still showed no intention of moving.
Ji Rou sniffed the air. “The garlic flavor is pretty authentic.”
Bai Yuxuan nodded in agreement. “Yeah, better than what we had back in university.”
Song Wanwan used her hands to eat, having given her chopsticks to Bai Yuxuan. “It could use a bit more spice.”
Ji Rou commented, “I think the current level of spice is perfect. It’s all garlic heat, very fragrant.”
Bai Yuxuan took a sip from a bottle of mineral water. “Delicious.”
“Ding dong!”
Bai Yuxuan blinked. “Another one? What’s it this time? Wanwan, go check!”
Song Wanwan licked her fingers and cautiously went to open the door. Shortly after, she returned with a bag. Under Bai Yuxuan and Ji Rou’s urging, she opened it, releasing a mouthwatering aroma of grilled meat that stirred their appetites. Ji Rou licked her lips. “Why is there only one pork trotter?”
Xu Wei leaned in, joining the fun. “Probably because the person ordering didn’t expect it to be delivered to the wrong place, let alone that there’d be so many people here eager to eat a pork trotter.”
Bai Yuxuan nodded, casting a sideways glance at Ji Rou, signaling her not to stir up trouble. “The usual rule, one bite each.” With that, she donned gloves, took a firm bite of the pig’s trotter, and passed it to Xu Wei, who took a bite. Bai Yuxuan then offered it to Ji Rou, followed by Song Wanwan, accompanied by garlic scallops.
“I could eat ten of these roasted pig trotters in one go,” Song Wanwan said, her mouth greasy, savoring the taste. Today felt surreal, like manna falling from the heavens.
“Ten? If you really got ten, you might not finish them. Food tastes better when you have to fight for it,” Ji Rou said, chewing the meat.
Song Wanwan suggested, “Why don’t we order some pig trotters too? Two each, how about it?”
Everyone shook their heads, and Bai Yuxuan said, “Too much of it gets greasy. I think this is enough.”
Xu Wei nodded in agreement, “I think the person who keeps ordering without receiving anything will order again. Why don’t we… wait a bit?”
Song Wanwan rolled her eyes, “Are you getting addicted to free food or what?”
“Ding dong!”
Xu Wei smiled, spreading her hands and pointing towards the door, “Wan, go!”
Wan shook her head, heading to the door with a teasing tone, “Who is this clueless fool placing the orders? Must be a dimwit!”
Hearing this, Xu Wei couldn’t sit still and was about to get up to confront them, but Ji Rou and Bai Yuxuan subtly held her back on either side, whispering soothingly, “Today is special, just bear with it. We’ll help you get back at them later.”
“Oh, Osmanthus Glutinous Rice Lotus, smells so good!” Song Wanwan came in with a bag, placing it on the table. “I don’t dare ask the delivery guy if it’s a mistake. If that clueless fool keeps ordering, why not enjoy the free food, right?”
Xu Wei gritted her teeth, nudged by Bai Yuxuan. Xu Wei exhaled a frustrated breath, accepting the situation.
Next came another “ding dong” with stir-fried rice cakes, spicy enoki mushrooms, lamb skewers, spicy crayfish, and lemon water, finally concluding the surprising takeout order spree, each order conveniently just enough for one.
Tasting fresh but not enough to fill up! And it wouldn’t interfere with the candlelit dinner planned for the evening.
