- Chapter 195 - Of Course, We're Going to Book a Hotel Room
Ji Rou: “To conclude, Wanwan, catching a thief needs evidence, and catching a cheater needs them in action. Everything should be backed up with bloody hardcore proof!”
Xu Wei: “Exactly, that’s what I meant. For this gory finale, we’ll have your back the whole way. Don’t be afraid we’ll judge your marital explosion, love smoke bombs, life machine guns, or whatever mess the future may bring.”
Song Wanwan: “Waaah… I just saw the end of the world!”
Bai Yuxuan: “Wei! Don’t you know you can’t scare someone with a fragile nervous system? And you’re even teasing her.”
Xu Wei: “Did I tell a ghost story or something?”
Ji Rou: “You did. I felt like we were in the middle of a whole parade of ghosts.”
Xu Wei: “I was just telling her to be cautious and verify carefully, not to recklessly make bold assumptions… that’s all.”
Bai Yuxuan: “Did your elementary school language teacher ever teach you the word ‘subtle’? Do you even understand its deep meaning?”
Xu Wei: “I’m always a fan of the bold style, okay? I’ll pay attention next time.”
Bai Yuxuan: “Wanwan, although Wei’s words are a bit blunt, she’s not wrong. We’re forever your strong support system, so go ahead and give it your all. Just be cautious, and verify thoroughly!”
Song Wanwan: “I feel like running away from home tonight. Hey, back-up squad, who’s feeling strong enough to step up?”
Ji Rou: “Count me in!”
Bai Yuxuan: “You’re always welcome!”
Xu Wei: “At your service!”
Song Wanwan: “Alright, I’ll pick someone at random to come and help me escape from home.”
Xu Wei: “Why do I feel like I’m getting roped into some human trafficking scheme? Xuan, we’re not going to get charged for this, right?”
Bai Yuxuan: “As long as the other party comes with you willingly and you don’t harm them physically, and as long as things don’t get out of hand, you’re safe from criminal charges-unless Shen Shang goes rogue.”
Ji Rou: “If a high-IQ rogue personality targets us, why do I feel an ominous chill in my heart?”
Xu Wei: “Wanwan, maybe you should just leave on your own. At worst, we’ll just have to issue a missing person notice.”
Song Wanwan: “You guys… what happened to being my support system?!”
Xu Wei: “Support system, support system. Of course, we’re here to support you-from the back!”
Song Wanwan: “Xu Wei, I swear I’ll test my new knife on you tonight. And then, maybe I’ll let the other sis enjoy some meat as well. Hehe!”
Xu Wei: “If you’re serving meat, you should ask Xuan to cook! I don’t even know how to cook!”
Bai Yuxuan: “Speaking of cooking, it’s been a long time since we had a tea gathering. Shall we…?”
Song Wanwan: “Shall we… stop procrastinating? Tomorrow’s the weekend, so why not tonight?”
Ji Rou: “So where should we go? How about we do what we did right after graduation and book a hotel room?”
Xu Wei: “Ah, feeling nostalgic? How about the same place, Room 808?”
Bai Yuxuan: “I wonder if the room is still available. Let’s meet near the school later, and whoever gets there first can book the room.”
Song Wanwan: “I’m going to write a farewell letter to Shen Shang. He dares to make me feel like I’m troubled over being cheated on? Let him cry at my grave instead.”
Ji Rou: “Uh…”
Xu Wei: “Er…”
Bai Yuxuan: “Um… I might not have time tonight. I’m not in a hurry to see ghosts just yet.”
Xu Wei: “Gu Yuan said we need to discuss important matters of national interest tonight, so I might not make it either. Plus, my heart can’t take too much stress.”
Ji Rou: “Ah, I forgot. My husband put me under house arrest. I’m not allowed to go anywhere.”
Song Wanwan: “Alright, fine. Drama queens, all of you! Acting like crazy people over a simple farewell letter. Honestly, such wimps. Oh, by the way, the location for tonight’s tea gathering is top secret. I don’t want that heartless wolf Shen Shang catching any clues. If I can’t divorce him yet, I’ll give him a warning by separating for a bit.”
Xu Wei: “Woohoo! You know I love a good spectacle and never back down from stirring the pot!”
Bai Yuxuan: “When you’ve got nothing to lose, you fear nothing. Once we get to the hotel, I’ll walk around barefoot, and when questioned, I’ll feign complete ignorance!”
Ji Rou: “Are you trying to drag three pregnant women into this chaos? I’m not sure Shen Shang would sniff out any clues, but I know for a fact my husband would locate your exact position in no time and hit you with divine retribution.”
Song Wanwan: “Hmph, I’m already staring at the apocalypse. If Lan Jingtu dares to hit me, I’ll hit his wife and kids in return. So you’d all better behave yourselves. No contacting anyone or revealing our location once we’re at the hotel. Got it?”
Xu Wei: “Okay…”
Bai Yuxuan: “Can I at least leave my last words behind?”
Song Wanwan: “Fine! But keep it highly classified. No leaks!”
Bai Yuxuan: “Um… alright!”
Ji Rou: “Am I seriously a fool walking straight into the trap myself like a little rabbit hopping into a cage?”
Song Wanwan: “Haha… Any objections?”
Ji Rou: “Me? Of course not. Why would I? I love this cute, foolish version of myself.”
Song Wanwan: “Alright then… see you there! Don’t bail on me, kisses!”
Xu Wei put down her phone and wiped imaginary sweat off her forehead. Her fingers brushed across her skin, which felt dry. No actual sweat-it wasn’t following the plot she’d imagined-suggesting her skin was just dehydrated. She quickly sent another message to the group, reminding everyone to bring face masks.
When it was time to get off work, Xu Wei received a message from Gu Yuan telling her to leave. This time, she packed up her things and left GT, taking the elevator directly to the basement garage. As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, she saw Gu Yuan waiting outside.
The two of them walked together to the car in the garage and drove out of the basement. The car moved at a steady pace on the asphalt road. The sky was gradually turning a grayish blue, and though the rain had stopped, the road remained wet, as if it were the last testament to the day’s earlier downpour.
Xu Wei glanced at the bus stop not far ahead and casually remarked, “Oh, stop at the bus stop up ahead for a moment.”
A fleeting look of confusion crossed Gu Yuan’s deep, dark eyes. He licked his lips and looked toward the bus stop. “Do you have something to do?”
“Yeah, let me off there. I’m not going home with you,” Xu Wei said with a serious expression.
“Not going home with me?” If she had said she wasn’t having dinner with him, he could understand, but not going home? How was he supposed to interpret that? He frowned as the car gradually approached the bus stop and came to a slow halt. Seeing that she was about to open the car door without offering any explanation, he immediately reached out and grabbed her arm. “Where are you going?”
“I have plans tonight,” Xu Wei said, blinking with a hint of mischief.
“When will it be over? I’ll come pick you up,” Gu Yuan sensed a bit of provocation in her eyes but feared he might be misinterpreting it. His mind raced to piece together the situation-she was meeting someone for dinner, just dinner. He wasn’t a petty man, and he could be even more of a gentleman by picking her up no matter how late it was, showing her what a good man really was.
Not seeing the expected result, Xu Wei’s brow furrowed. “I already said… I’m not going home!” Her face was full of mystery.
“If you’re not going home, where are you staying?” Gu Yuan continued to hold her arm, his frown deepening with confusion. What kind of secret was she playing at now?
“Of course, I’m going to a hotel to get a room!” Xu Wei’s words were laced with mystery and challenge, almost blatantly misleading, with a story told in an ambiguously suggestive manner.
