Dying in the Male Lead's Arms Every Time - Chapter 1
If someone asked what it feels like to become an old madam, Ning Meng felt she could definitely answer that question.
The reality was too shocking, and she was trying her best to digest it. She reached out towards the light streaming in through the window to take a look.
Wrinkles, dry skin, sagging flesh.
She swallowed hard and reached out with her other hand from under the covers to touch it. Putting both hands together made it even more apparent.
It wasn’t her eyes playing tricks; it truly felt like the bark of an old tree in autumn.
Even though she had been hospitalized for a long time, she remembered her good skin was envied by many-fair, tender, and smooth to the touch.
Even if it had worsened due to lack of sunlight, it should still be the skin of a young girl. How could it have wrinkles?
How did it turn into skin only an elderly person would have in the blink of an eye?
Realizing something was amiss, Ning Meng immediately struggled to get up from the bed. After a long effort, she only managed to move the blanket a little, without flipping it over.
She seemed to have turned into an old madam.
…
A few minutes earlier, at First Hospital.
“Bed 12, Ning Meng.”
The doctor flipped through the medical records, “Can be sent to the morgue.”
Ning Meng floated in mid-air, watching as the nurse pushed her body into the morgue and covered it with a white sheet.
Her consciousness quickly faded.
She didn’t know how long had passed when she felt herself squeezed into a cramped, pitch-black space, unable to move.
The surroundings were silent, but soon small sounds emerged, growing louder until they converged into a sentence.
“Old madam? Are you awake?”
“The old madam hasn’t woken up yet; let her rest a bit more.”
“The doctor said the old madam is too old to endure any more stress; we must be careful in the future.”
The initial sentence turned into several, not too noisy, gradually becoming clear.
Before long, the sounds disappeared, and her ears returned to silence.
Ning Meng regained consciousness from the darkness and opened her eyes.
The view was dim; she looked up at the ceiling, bewildered. Blinking, she found her vision slightly blurry.
Could she have come back to life? Woken up in the morgue?
Thinking of this possibility, goosebumps rose all over her body. Surrounded by corpses, locked inside alone, scenes from horror movies and novels about zombies sprang to mind.
Soon, she realized something was off.
The slow sensation finally reached her brain. Her eyes weren’t very clear, but she could feel the room was beautifully decorated, the bed beneath her soft and comfortable, and a faint fragrance lingered at the tip of her nose.
She lay there, stiff, pondering.
After maintaining the same posture for a long time, her body felt stiff. Ning Meng tried to move, wanting to turn over, but couldn’t manage to do so.
The odd feeling resurfaced.
The curtains fluttered, letting in a sliver of light, weak but enough to reveal the hand before her.
A hand full of wrinkles.
“Whoosh.”
Ning Meng let out a long breath, finally coming to terms with the fact that she had turned into an old madam.
Just then, a voice echoed in her mind: “Hello Ning Meng… I am your system.” It came abruptly and strangely.
Ning Meng’s mind, which had just cleared, froze again.
This was truly bizarre!
Not only had she become an old madam, but now there was another voice in her head. Was she dreaming or what?
The voice reminded her again: “You can talk to me in your mind…”
She controlled her emotions and asked, “Who are you?”
“I am the system from Jinjiang’s Transmigration Department… Due to your original body’s lifespan ending prematurely, we hurriedly found a suitable body…”
Ning Meng guessed some of it.
She read novels, so she naturally knew what a system was, but never thought such a thing would happen to her. She was somewhat skeptical.
The system was a bit anxious. It was new to the job, and if this host complained, it would be recalled. It had worked hard to get this benefit…
Ning Meng was silent for a moment, her mind turning over many times, calmly asking, “What do you want from me?”
“You accumulated good deeds in your previous life, and in this life, you were supposed to enjoy a lifetime of happiness. However, an accident caused your premature death, which was our Transmigration Department’s mishandling…” The system quickly recounted past events.
A transparent screen appeared before her eyes.
On the screen was her portrait, like a sci-fi movie playing her life.
Seeing it from an observer’s perspective was entirely different.
She had indeed transmigrated, from a college student to a sixty-something-year-old granny, because at the moment, only this body met the requirements for enjoyment.
Ning Meng lay on the bed, feeling pitiful, and the system appeared again.
It hesitantly said, “Can you rate me?”
Ning Meng reached out and tapped the 10-point option, watching the transparent screen ripple like water for a few seconds before disappearing.
Suddenly, the door opened.
She immediately resumed her sleeping pose, footsteps stopping by the bed, then moving away to the window.
She heard the sound of curtains being drawn, and she peeked through a crack. The room instantly brightened.
A young girl stood not far from the bed, her back to Ning Meng, doing something with gentle movements.
Ning Meng squinted, watching her actions.
The room door was cautiously pushed open, and another young girl entered, carrying a bouquet of flowers. They stood side by side.
It was summer, and Yanjing City was blazing hot, the air seemingly filled with irritation. A branch extended from the window, adorned with small white flowers, and the cicadas’ cries were incessant.
“Hey, don’t touch those flowers. The eldest young master said the position can’t be changed.”
“Oh, I almost forgot. This bouquet is fresh; it needs to be replaced.”
No potted plants were allowed in the room, but other plants were needed, so they could only use water arrangements.
Li Chun glanced outside, sighed, and carefully changed the water in the vase.
The old madam was born into a fishing family and was used to living at home. After marrying into the Shi Family and living in the mansion, she felt it lacked warmth and mentioned it for a long time. After the eldest young master inherited the Shi Family, he built her a small building.
Though this small building couldn’t compare to those villas, it was no less exquisite inside, with everything being elegant and luxurious.
No one knew when the old madam would wake up. If she didn’t soon, they might be blamed by the eldest young master.
Li Chun thought absentmindedly while arranging flowers.
Once Li Xia finished her task, she leaned over and whispered, “Li Chun, when do you think the old madam will wake up? Is it worth it to argue with the eldest young master over a child?”
Li Xia glanced at the bed, casually saying, “The third young master left and never returned. The old madam doesn’t say it, but she must regret it in her heart. Not to mention now hearing that the third young master is no longer alive, impulsively wanting to bring the little grandson back. If it’s not the third young master’s bloodline, then it’s just to keep the old madam happy.”
The third young master was the old madam’s youngest son.
Her words were so carefree, but Li Chun felt it wasn’t right.
The third young master’s matter was easy to investigate. It caused quite a stir back then and even made the news. News from eight years ago wasn’t like today’s; most of it was true.
A few days ago, a child appeared at the mansion, looking seven or eight years old, holding the third young master’s belongings to claim kinship. People said he resembled the third young master, so it was possible he was his son.
However, the eldest young master’s intentions were unclear; he just arranged a small room for him to stay.
Li Xia casually said, “The wild ghost that collided with the old madam has been dealt with by the eldest young master.”
The old madam received news and said she wanted to bring the child to the small building. The eldest young master disagreed, so the old madam secretly went to see him, only to encounter a daring wild ghost, causing trouble.
“I don’t know where that ghost came from,” Li Chun muttered.
The Shi Family was a feng shui1 family. Ghosts were only present in designated places for tasks, and the small building was the quietest place.
The wild ghost the old madam encountered was truly fearless to come here.
The two girls didn’t notice that the person on the bed had already woken up.
Ning Meng listened to the conversation for a few minutes, only catching a few vague words.
Regarding the information they mentioned, she felt a sense of familiarity, as if she had heard it somewhere before.
She asked the system, “What were they talking about?”
The system replied, “They were talking about your current body, saying it collided with a ghost, causing the incident.”
Ning Meng shivered instantly; she was most afraid of ghosts, and her gaze quickly shifted to the blanket covering her.
It was summer, and the sunlight outside was strong, but the room was very cool, unlike the coolness of an air-conditioned room, as she didn’t see any air conditioner.
Even with a blanket, she felt no heat or irritation, only a deep sense of comfort.
What kind of high-tech was this?
Sensing her curiosity, the system appeared again: “This room has a formation that benefits your body.”
Ning Meng repeated, “Formation?”
“Yes… The room’s items are mostly square-shaped. There’s a saying that square is better than round. Also, the arrangement of cabinets and potted plants has a yin and yang2 balance, providing warmth in winter and coolness in summer, especially beneficial for the elderly.”
The system couldn’t stop talking: “Most formations in feng shui use external objects, utilizing the time, location, and harmony of people to arrange and achieve goals. Although this formation is ordinary, its purpose is quite good, and the feng shui master who arranged it seems decent.”
Ning Meng suddenly asked, “Are you a feng shui system?”
The system shyly replied, “I just learned a bit…”
Ning Meng: “…”
While she hadn’t been discovered awake, she stretched her arms under the covers.
She felt from head to toe, leaving no possibility. It was indeed the body of an old madam, slightly plump.
What the system said was true; she wasn’t dreaming.
Hearing slight movements on the bed, the two girls turned around.
Li Xia coaxed, “Old madam, if you wake up pretending to sleep, aren’t you scaring Li Xia? Li Chun just prepared some delicious food; won’t you get up to take a look?”
Despite saying this, the old madam didn’t open her eyes, but her eyelids were already trembling, making her feel amused.
Ning Meng also wanted to open her eyes, but she feared being exposed. Although the system was there, she worried about being sent to a lab as a guinea pig, which would be a glorious life.
Wait… What were those girls called… Li Chun and Li Xia?
She discreetly observed the two, her heart already in turmoil.
The system was resting in her mind, enjoying itself. Sensing the emotional fluctuation, it remembered it hadn’t transmitted the memory: “Hold on, the memory is being transmitted…”
The transparent screen appeared again, the scene already changed.
Ning Meng immersed herself in it.
Li Chun and Li Xia originally joked around, but seeing the old madam seemingly dazed, they were startled.
They quickly pressed the bedside bell, calling the doctor.
The doctor had been staying here these days and soon arrived, checking her over and expressing confusion: “The old madam should be fine. Have you been following the dietary standards?”
“It’s all according to the doctor’s standards, normal. She was fine just now, then suddenly like this.” Li Chun was a bit panicked, “Doctor, is the old madam… senile dementia…”
Who would have thought the old madam would suddenly collide with a ghost?
Ning Meng emerged from the complex memory, just in time to hear this sentence, and said with full vigor, “I don’t have senile dementia!”
She thought becoming an old madam was already difficult enough, but she hadn’t expected to transmigrate into a feng shui supernatural novel.
Becoming the male lead’s… grandmother.
Not only old, but a bit malicious.
