Dream Dance Gracefully - Chapter 76 - Farewell and Sadness
Zhang Wan’er turned around and threw herself into Xu Meng’s arms. At that moment, she felt so fragile that she could no longer endure even the slightest blow.
“Wuwu… Xu Meng, am I unnecessary?” Zhang Wan’er cried.
Now, the only way to relieve herself was through tears, to liberate herself and free her soul.
Xu Meng knew how to comfort her; she gently patted her back.
Everyone knew that Zhang Wan’er had feelings for Chen Tianqi, and they also knew there was no future in it. Yet she had still loved, liked, and invested her emotions-was she regretting it? Zhang Wan’er couldn’t quite grasp what she felt.
Now, Zhang Wan’er had decided to leave; was there really no reason for her to stay?
Xu Meng understood the sacrifices Zhang Wan’er had made, but it was ultimately her personal matter. All Xu Meng could do was offer encouragement and support.
“It’s okay, don’t cry. Try to be happy. I know, I see it all. You just met the wrong person at the wrong time. Don’t be sad. How could you possibly be unnecessary? Everyone is irreplaceable in this world…”
Xu Meng knew that with Lin Yiyi back and Chen Tianqi having regained his memory, there was no way for him to go back to living with Zhang Wan’er.
“Am I being foolish?” Zhang Wan’er asked, still sniffling.
“No, you’re not foolish. You’re very smart. Believe in yourself.”
After crying for a while, Zhang Wan’er’s emotions began to stabilize.
“Okay, I won’t cry anymore. I’m fine now. Xu Meng, you should head back. I’ll walk the rest of the way by myself.” She wiped her tears and forced a bright smile.
“Alright, remember, there’s no obstacle too great to overcome. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Don’t be too hard on yourself.”
“I understand.”
“So, are you planning to resign? And move to another city?” Xu Meng had been pondering this idea for a while and decided to ask.
Zhang Wan’er nodded. “Yes, that’s what I’m planning. I don’t blame anyone because this is my choice. I don’t want to regret it. If I did, it would mean rejecting my past. The people and moments I loved and cherished, I don’t want to forget them. Actually, those memories are quite precious…”
Xu Meng heard the silent thoughts of Zhang Wan’er; it was her resolve-not wanting to cause any harm. “Will you come back here? When will you return?”
Zhang Wan’er let out a light laugh, raised her head, and looked toward the room where Chen Tianqi was. A smile crept onto her face.
“Perhaps, I won’t come back anymore…”
After hearing that, Xu Meng guessed what Zhang Wan’er was going to say. “You really won’t come back?”
Zhang Wan’er kept smiling. “Maybe I will only return when I have nowhere else to turn. When that time comes, don’t despise me for coming back!”
“Of course not. Just take care of yourself. If you run into trouble, come back. This is your home…” Xu Meng’s eyes began to redden. After all, Zhang Wan’er had grown up playing with her. Now, in this moment, Zhang Wan’er was leaving and might never return. Xu Meng couldn’t believe Zhang Wan’er’s last words. With Zhang Wan’er’s capabilities, she wouldn’t end up in a dead end. After all, Zhang Wan’er had matured significantly compared to the girl she used to be… If she really did reach a dead end, that would mean… she’d never be able to see Zhang Wan’er again. When that happened, Zhang Wan’er would truly be gone.
“Okay, you should go in now. I’ll be leaving. I won’t need you to see me off. Just tell Chen Tianqi that if he ever needs help, I’ll be back,” Zhang Wan’er said, turning away and walking off.
Xu Meng stood there, staring at the receding figure, feeling a heavy sadness in her heart… Zhang Wan Wan’s words made it seem like she considered herself an object, carrying an air of self-mockery. “I can’t become the person you like, but I want to be someone who can help you. When you need me, I’ll return.”
In Jiangning City, there was nothing left for Zhang Wan’er to cling to, and so she was leaving!
Xu Meng returned to her room and shared everything with Chen Tianqi. He felt a wave of guilt wash over him as he remembered his days of amnesia, when it was Zhang Wan’er who took care of him. But now, Zhang Wan’er was leaving, and he felt he had acted somewhat unfairly.
Everyone present felt a heavy weight in their hearts. At that moment, Chen Hui spoke up, “Wan’er is a good girl…” But he couldn’t continue his thoughts.
Lin Yiyi was still in the emergency room…
The feeling was unbearable; with one person gone, everyone felt an emptiness within. They stood there, mouths open, but at a loss for words. They were all rational individuals, not the type to be unreasonable, and while they felt deep sympathy for Zhang Wan’er, there was nothing they could do to change the reality.
Chen Tianqi was in turmoil. His love for Lin Yiyi was filled with tenderness, and he hadn’t liked Zhang Wan’er. But now, he couldn’t quite define his feelings. During the days of his amnesia, it was impossible for him to claim he felt nothing for Zhang Wan’er. If he had to characterize it, it would be a desire to protect her, which was markedly different from mere sympathy; it was a different kind of love altogether.
So, Chen Tianqi truly didn’t know what to do. Slowly, he got out of bed and walked to the window, gazing out through the glass. It was unclear whether he was looking at the sunlight of the day or the figure that was now far away…
After a long silence, someone came in to announce that Lin Yiyi had come out of the emergency room and was in another room.
Upon hearing this, several people moved to Lin Yiyi’s side. She lay on the white bed, her face peaceful, and her breathing steady.
The attending physician walked in, his expression filled with regret. “I’m sorry. We did everything we could. The patient may become a vegetable due to severe head trauma and excessive blood loss… We tried our best…”
“Thank you, doctor… We just want to be alone for a moment,” Lin Qingtian said, sitting by the bed with a faint expression, clearly in distress.
No one was feeling well, especially Chen Tianqi. With Zhang Wan’er gone and Lin Yiyi now lying in bed, having sacrificed herself to save him and now facing the possibility of becoming a vegetable, his heart ached terribly.
They all quietly stood for a moment, not saying a word, before leaving the ward.
