Dream Dance Gracefully - Chapter 68 - The State of Affairs
Several days had passed since that night, and Zhang Wan’er remained by Chen Tianqi’s side, never leaving him. Chen Tianqi was still on an IV drip, showing no signs of waking up.
How I wish I could keep watching you like this, until the end of time.
If I could, I would like to stay by your side.
But reality is harsh and often doesn’t go as one hopes.
During these days, Zhang Wan’er ate, drank, and slept there, feeling no loneliness at all; she had matured and grown quite a bit.
Since Chen Tianqi showed no signs of waking, he couldn’t possibly be completely deprived of food. Zhang Wan’er had been helping him eat and clean himself, and these few days felt like they had stretched into many years or flashed by in no time.
Meanwhile, on the other side…
It was Friday, and the weekend break was just around the corner. Li Shaofei was seeing Xu Meng home.
“Shaofei, do you think something happened to Tianqi? Even if he went abroad, he should have told us something. Up until now, there’s been nothing.” Xu Meng was aware of the situation with Chen Tianqi, but she didn’t want to let anyone else know. It was better to avoid trouble. Over the past few days, she had thought of many things. Zhang Wan’er was at Chen Tianqi’s side, but what about me? I haven’t interacted much with others, right? So what about Li Shaofei? Could he be under surveillance? His father, Li Hai, had been involved in the car accident two years ago; so could he also be monitored?
Ever since she heard Zhang Wan’er’s words that night, Xu Meng had become more cautious. In uncertain situations, the first priority was to dispel any suspicions Li Shaofei might have.
“Probably not? Maybe he was in a hurry to leave and didn’t have time to inform us…”
“Oh, yeah, that must be it.” Xu Meng nodded and didn’t think any further. But she was relieved to know that Li Shaofei was not suspicious; that was enough.
Li Shaofei felt that even though Chen Tianqi had left, he needed to push forward and couldn’t afford to give up halfway.
This time, he wanted to meet with Xu Xiaobo alone. Just then, his phone rang.
“Hello, is this Li Shaofei?”
“Yes. May I ask who this is…”
“This is Xu Xiaobo.”
“Xu Xiaobo?” Li Shaofei was puzzled; he didn’t understand why Xu Xiaobo was contacting him.
“I need to talk to you about something. Let’s meet in person…”
“Alright, let’s meet.”
Xu Xiaobo provided a location, and Li Shaofei agreed.
See you tomorrow!
After hanging up the phone, Li Shaofei was left confused as to why Xu Xiaobo would seek him out. Could it be about his father’s company? He thought it over but then dismissed that idea. What else could it be? Xu Meng? That was even less likely, considering Xu Xiaobo had been kicked out of his house. What reason would he have to reach out to Li Shaofei? After pondering for a bit, he decided that meeting in person was the best way to find out.
Xu Meng returned home and quietly called Yang Xue to inform her about the situation. She felt it was necessary to discuss this matter, whether for good or bad, for Zhang Wan’er’s sake.
Tonight, Chen Hui, Chen Tianyou, and Yang Xue were all sitting in the living room of the villa.
Everyone wore a gloomy expression on their faces.
“Dad, what should we do? We can’t just expel Zhang Wan’er, right?” Chen Tianyou spoke up, torn between wanting to protect the company’s secrets and not wanting to drive Zhang Wan’er away. She had definitely contributed to the company, and if they kicked her out, where would she go?
“No way, if we expel her, Wan’er will have nowhere to live, especially with Tianqi still over there. We absolutely cannot do that.” Yang Xue was the first to voice her disagreement. Kicking her out would be inappropriate, no matter how you looked at it.
At that moment, Chen Hui seemed to have an idea and spoke up.
“Alright, everyone, enough talking. Listen to me: Wan’er cannot be kicked out. You all need to find her a way to progress further.”
“What?”
Chen Tianyou and Yang Xue were taken aback. How could Dad still be thinking about promoting Wan’er?
“Let me finish. We’ll have a direct conversation with Wan’er. We’ll tell her that we know what’s going on, and we’ll let her continue working as usual. We won’t treat her unfairly. This means we will work with Wan’er regarding company secrets and workflow. If the people on the other side need her to take certain information, we’ll let her do it…” Chen Hui explained his proposal.
Chen Tianyou and Yang Xue quickly understood.
“Dad, are you saying we create a fake document for her? That way she can cover her tracks without exposing her identity? And we need to act like we don’t know anything? Pretending to be tense from time to time?”
“Exactly. This is a compromise, but we also need to find a way to get Wan’er back to work. Only then can we ensure she isn’t threatened by those people…”
“Hmm, that’s a problem, but it’s up to you two now. I’m off to bed. If you want to see Tianqi, keep it low-key…” Chen Hui said before leaving.
Left in the living room, Chen Tianyou and Yang Xue exchanged glances, both wanting to check on Tianqi as well…
Meanwhile, at Xu Meng’s side.
“Dad, please help Tianqi and the others. You have a good relationship with Tianqi’s dad, right? With this situation unfolding, you need to lend a hand,” Xu Meng sat in front of Xu Feng, speaking earnestly.
Xu Meng knew that with the current troubles, the Chen Family would surely face difficulties, so she wanted her father to step in. As the saying goes, ‘a dead camel is bigger than a horse,’ meaning even a weakened entity can still be substantial.
“Hmm, it’s going to be quite difficult for the Chen Family to get through this period. In fact, as I am now, I can only offer advice and see if I can rally some of my old friends to lend a hand. That’s about all I can do at the moment,” Xu Feng replied, keen to help but limited by his condition.
“Boss, Chen Tianqi is probably dead. Looking at the situation now, these companies are in chaos, and we can… take advantage of this and strike decisively!” a student-like young man stood in front of the chubby guy, speaking confidently.
“Haha, yes, with Chen Tianqi dead, things are chaotic, but taking over these companies won’t be easy,” the chubby guy replied, looking somewhat pleased.
“Right, what you say is absolutely correct, Boss.” The young man didn’t forget to flatter.
“Alright, you can go now. I want to think about what to do next by myself,” the boss waved his hand to dismiss him.
