Doll Survival Game - Chapter 81 - Fairy Tale Forest (Part 18)
nting at the doll. “Why do you sound like an uncle? Could it be you’re about my age?”
Luo Yiran paused as he looked into Wang Xiaoming’s eyes-because of the live broadcast, most players in the game knew he was friends with Xia Lang and guessed their ages to be similar.
So most players thought he was also a young man… Could it be this person hadn’t watched the live broadcast?
He was briefly distracted for a second, and in that second, a flash occurred in front of the doll, and his body suddenly dropped-
Ah Lei?
The silver thread… had been cut.
“It’s a bit off,” Wang Xiaoming remarked, catching the bladed disc as its blades retracted right before returning to his hand. “This time it won’t be off.”
Wang Xiaoming couldn’t see the arrangement of the threads clearly, but since they extended from the doll’s body, observing the doll’s body would indeed reveal the “invisible” silver threads.
Though his recent attack was not aimed explicitly at the silver threads.
The falling body of the doll was caught by the magician, who sat in the palm of his hand, then looked down at his arms full of ball joints-the three-ply twisted silver threads had been severed.
However, the recent attack with the bladed disc wasn’t aimed at his body; it was more like it targeted the silver threads or his… hand.
More likely his hand, since Wang Xiaoming mentioned it was “off.”
“Don’t you want to kill me?” the doll maneuvered the magician to jump back slightly, then placed the broken scythe in front of his body.
Wang Xiaoming raised an eyebrow upon hearing the doll’s words. “Why would I want to kill you? Dolls aren’t easy to kill; it would be too much effort to kill you.”
The doll, expressionless, remarked, “Oh wow.”
Wang Xiaoming: “…”
The magician, playing along with the doll, said, “Young master, this will make him upset.”
Wang Xiaoming was indeed upset, licking his lips with a threatening tone: “But I could chop off your arms and legs, lay them out in front of you, and slowly cut them up into pieces before burning them when I get bored.”
His hand holding the bladed disc edged with a hint of blade, the cold light flashing. Wang Xiaoming bent his elbow back, smiling as he asked, “If only your head is left, can you still live?”
The doll, recalling how his head had once turned 180 degrees, responded seriously, “I can live.”
Wang Xiaoming paused again: “…You’re not quite like the others.”
The doll’s red eyes shone brightly, casting an eerie glow in the dim forest. He leaned slightly forward, “After all, I am a doll.”
It wasn’t just about physical structure, but personality too.
Wang Xiaoming didn’t explain further; gripping the bladed disc handle, he charged forward.
The magician wielded a long weapon, while Wang Xiaoming’s bladed disc was short-close quarters definitely favored Wang Xiaoming.
And then.
With a swing of his hand, the magician blocked the incoming bladed disc, while the doll took the opportunity to weave several strands of silver thread around him, forming a net.
The next moment, one of Wang Xiaoming’s bladed discs smashed towards the doll again, striking the silver threads and sending sparks flying.
The bladed disc flew back into Wang Xiaoming’s hand, and he used it to block the magician’s massive scythe.
The doll subtly raised his head-Wang Xiaoming was persistently trying to target him first, and Wang Xiaoming was very skilled in combat, whereas he was not… Perhaps he should release control when the magician was about to fall before Wang Xiaoming’s blade?
The magician would know better how to handle it, right?
Quietly dodging two more moves, Luo Yiran decided against releasing control of the magician-he had already begun to rely on the magician’s actions, but he couldn’t afford to depend on the magician for fighting.
The broken silver thread was repaired once more, and the doll finally managed to use the force of Wang Xiaoming’s attack to separate from the magician. He landed on a branch behind the magician, his eyes intensely focused on Wang Xiaoming-he preferred controlling the magician from a distance.
But just as he settled on the branch, a chilling sensation suddenly crept up from behind, and the silver thread, woven into a shield, snapped.
He quickly turned his head and saw a slender, humanoid black shadow with long, sharp fingers, silently yet swiftly swinging towards him.
Wang Xiaoming intercepted the magician’s path, standing in a spot where faint sunlight filtered through, yet there was no shadow beneath his feet.
He observed the murderous intent in the magician’s eyes, his dark eyes deep and his lips curving upward, “Two against two, that’s fair.”
“Isn’t it?”
Central lobby.
“The doll and Wang Xiaoming have crossed paths! Should we bet on who will win?” Tian Tang asked with interest.
Wei Lianlian glanced at her.
Tian Tang shrank back a bit, “…I get it, no gambling! No gambling!”
Fang Jincheng rested his chin on one hand, his gaze wandering, “In this position, I’m more worried they’ll accidentally step into Little Red’s territory.”
Unable to indulge in candy or gambling, Tian Tang folded her hands on her puffy skirt, her whole demeanor exuding boredom, “If they go in, they go in. I’m quite curious to see how he handles Little Red.”
Wei Lianlian uncrossed her legs, “Currently, only those with her invitation can survive in Little Red’s territory.”
Tian Tang was taken aback, her eyes scanning the display panel, then settling on a player within Little Red’s territory. She watched for a while, not noticing anything different about the scenes.
Wei Lianlian pointed at the display panel, “The ground is riddled with traps, trees can’t be leaned on casually, and there are many strange, highly aggressive creatures.”
“I’ve observed those creatures,” Fang Jincheng spoke up, “They eat people.”
Guan Cheng sighed, “That place is practically a hunting ground, except the players are the prey.”
All players who initially landed in Little Red’s territory without an invitation, along with those who accidentally wandered in, were hunted and toyed with by those strange creatures.
Ultimately meeting a gruesome end.
“By the way, how many players are left now?”
Wei Lianlian quickly scanned the display panel, “Now, with some merging due to encounters, there are about a hundred players left.”
“That’s a lot,” Tian Tang remarked in surprise, “I thought there were only around seventy left.”
“Not many, there are still players dying,” Wei Lianlian lowered her head, “And don’t forget they have to survive in the game for three days.”
“Usually, in time-limited scenarios like this, there’s a big finale,” Tian Tang propped her face with her hands.
Wei Lianlian glanced at Guan Cheng and Fang Jincheng.
Guan Cheng recalled the final flooding of Water City, “Indeed, there will be a big finale.”
“That,” Fang Jincheng, who always glanced at each display panel, pointed towards the doll’s panel. “What’s that black shadow behind the doll?”
The group looked again, just in time to see the slender black shadow raising its claw-like hand towards the doll.
Guan Cheng shot up from his seat. “Dodge!”
The doll’s silver thread was torn apart, but in the next moment, a thicker silver thread appeared right in front of those sharp claws. This time, the silver thread blocked the black claws, but the proximity caused the doll’s clothes to be shredded, leaving some scratches on its body.
Guan Cheng let out a sigh of relief and sat back down.
Tian Tang was startled by Guan Cheng’s outburst. She patted her chest. “Why are you shouting? He can’t hear you from here.”
Guan Cheng sighed. “It was just too scary, I forgot.”
“…It was a bit scary,” Tian Tang admitted, looking at the shadow. The slender black shape was like a ghostly figure. Luckily, it was daytime, and they had been in the game for a while, so seeing Wang Xiaoming’s shadow didn’t bother her much.
“Is this caused by an item?”
“Not sure,” Tian Tang replied, her expression not too pleased as she stared at the shadow. “It probably is. There are so many items in the game, all sorts, like that spirit serpent from earlier.”
“Wang Xiaoming’s shadow is likely an item,” Wei Lianlian tucked her hair behind her ear. “Currently, special or extraordinary abilities come from either the player being a special species or the game occasionally granting enhanced physical rewards.”
“And the last one, items.”
Fang Jincheng nodded, recalling something. “Items are actually easy to get. I have quite a few, but…”
“They’re too ordinary,” Guan Cheng sighed. “In the last instance, I cleared it with a wooden stick, so that stick became one of my items.”
Items are usually automatically placed in the item Bar. When it’s full, items are discarded by default, so players clean out their item Bar after an instance, storing items in their personal space.
However, some items can’t be moved to personal space, so they must be left in the item Bar or discarded in an instance where it’s allowed.
There are also restrictions on bringing items into instances.
Some instances don’t allow items, some prohibit certain items, and if an instance allows items, only the first one to three slots can be used. If a player’s first slot item is unusable, it moves to the next, using the fourth slot.
If that’s not possible, it continues down the line.
There’s another way to carry items, which is to keep them on your person.
Like Via’s weapon or Yuan Mo’s spirit serpent inside his body.
Yuan Mo’s card-shaped items are generally high-level items.
“I lost to Wang Xiaoming last time because of that shadow… And he dares to talk about fairness. If it were a one-on-one fight, I would’ve won!” Tian Tang complained, tapping her leg as she glared at the doll’s display panel.
The sound from the doll’s panel was always faint, and with so many display panels in Central Square, they could barely hear anything.
Tian Tang simply watched as the doll seemed to say something, then Wang Xiaoming appeared to get angry, raising his bladed disc. But the doll suddenly tilted its body, swiftly moving to the side, and stepped right into Little Red’s territory.
“…”
“Huh???”
“What is he doing?”
Fang Jincheng, lost in thought about what kind of item Wang Xiaoming’s shadow was, was startled by Tian Tang’s sudden outburst. He quickly looked over.
And then he saw the doll, alone, stepping into Little Red’s territory. As soon as it stood still, a massive, gaping mouth emerged from the dense foliage nearby, swallowing the small doll in one swift motion.
