Desperados Attack - Chapter 73 - Moon Shadow
Observing Duanmu Xun’s wistful and silently sorrowful expression, it was hard to associate her demeanor with her anticipation for reinforcements.
“Pitiful? They met, understood, and loved each other. Nu Ba experienced two profound loves in her lifetime-isn’t that enough?”
Whether Mohuoluoja was truly ignorant or merely feigning it was unclear; he kept talking incessantly. Despite being a great deity, he lacked the aura of one, and instead, became a part of Duanmu Xun’s calculations.
“Is it really enough? Meeting, understanding, loving-such a journey is arduous. Do you understand how painful love is when it cannot endure?”
“Hmph, enough, enough, we’ll stop there with this topic. Next question, next!”
Mohuoluoja’s disdainful demeanor was unsettling for Duanmu Xun, but her discomfort was secondary. What was paramount was the question-why had the reinforcements not yet arrived?
While pondering, she heard Mohuoluoja demand, “Will you answer or not? If you don’t ask your question soon, you’ll have to hand over the Black Wolf Banner!”
“Alright, alright, I have one last question!”
“Go ahead and ask!”
Mohuoluoja crossed his arms, tilting his head at a forty-five degree angle.
How arrogant and insolent he appeared. He was gazing at the moon, but was he truly looking at it?
Not at all!
He was merely finding a charming angle, posing in an outdated manner, pretending to be significant.
Duanmu Xun felt anger rise at this show of arrogance, yet she knew that strength dominated, and she couldn’t overpower him.
“My last question for you. If Duan Pingzhang clearly burned you to death, how are you alive again?”
“Oh, that’s quite a profound question. Let me tell you! I, Mohuoluoja, the legendary great python deity, have undergone eight cycles of reincarnation. I’ve been reborn in this young man’s body, and he has been fortunate enough to possess such a handsome face, which makes me envious indeed.”
“Oh? So when you were reincarnated, did he perish?”
“Naturally. He was burned to death by you all, allowing me to reincarnate. Hence, I did not take his life!”
As soon as he finished speaking, Duanmu Xun was about to ask another question, when suddenly, a voice erupted from the same body, “Foul serpent, get out of my body!”
Compared to Mohuoluoja’s dry, raspy voice, this voice emerging from the same body was truly astonishing.
“Ah? Isn’t that Xinghe’s voice?”
Xiao Feng, hiding behind a large cauldron and guarding Qiusui, overheard their conversation from afar.
Not only Xiao Feng, but even Qiusui reacted upon hearing Su Xinghe’s voice.
Duanmu Xun was startled, the words she was about to speak were forcibly stifled.
Shocked, Duanmu Xun asked, “What’s happening?”
Mohuoluoja did not respond, merely speaking to himself, “Silence, this body is mine now!”
“Impudent demon, how dare you speak such audacity; how could I forgive you?”
As the words fell with the wind, Mohuoluoja raised his hand and slapped himself across the face.
“Hmm?”
Duanmu Xun was startled, swiftly moving far away.
From a distance, it was unclear if it was Su Xinghe or Mohuoluoja, but the figure was already bending and twisting in place.
“Whoosh~~~”
A gentle breeze swept by, and unexpectedly, it obscured the moon. In that instant, a fierce wind rose; when the moon reappeared, before them stood a naked man and a figure with a human body and snake tail.
Both bore the same face, yet it was immediately obvious who was Su Xinghe and who was Mohuoluoja.
“What is happening?”
Duanmu Xun, who had moved beside Xiao Feng and Qiusui, asked about the events unfolding before her.
Perhaps apart from Xiao Feng, no one truly knew.
“Hmph, you woman still wish to kill me, truly…”
“That was a substitute, a substitute!”
Duanmu Xun carelessly dismissed.
Xiao Feng snorted coldly, saying, “Since that’s the case, let me tell you, as a white horse noble young master wandering the Jianghu, what I rely on is ‘erudition’…”
“Shut up!”
Duanmu Xun sternly stopped him, “If you don’t speak clearly, don’t blame me for being merciless.”
“Hey, wait, wait, this phenomenon is indeed recorded in ancient books as something called ‘body takeover.'”
“Body takeover?”
“Yes, legend has it that once the great deity Fuxi couldn’t rid himself of inner demons, thus entering a dream state. When he awoke, he found himself in a different body, thereby slaying the inner demon and becoming the first great emperor of heaven.”
“So is it one person now, or two?”
“One person…”
“Oh~ so it’s one person!”
“Yet also two people.”
Xiao Feng’s explanation was interrupted by Duanmu Xun, who then added a line that left her speechless, cursing internally that he really deserved a lesson.
But annoyed as she was, she couldn’t harm him.
“Another question then: If there’s only one body, which one of them is the true self?”
Xiao Feng smacked his lips and said, “Both are.”
“If you dare speak nonsense again, I surely won’t spare you!”
Duanmu Xun’s calm and composed demeanor was crumbling, her frustration evident.
But how could she not be anxious?
Xiao Feng waved repeatedly, “See, you don’t believe me even when I explain.”
“How do you expect me to believe this?”
Xiao Feng snorted, lifting his right hand, which was shackled in chains, and said, “It’s that!”
Who is “that”?
It was the crescent moon hanging in the sky.
A crescent moon?
How could it be a crescent moon? Just a moment ago, there was a full moon shining brightly, and now it’s changed to this?
At that moment, there came a rustling sound from above, and it turned out Su Xinghe had pulled down the drapery in the hall, quickly wrapping it around himself.
“Hmph, that’s the difference!”
“Difference? Indeed, the difference is vast. You’re just a boorish fellow; how unseemly to be stark naked?”
Hearing this, Mohuoluoja’s eyes instantly filled with rage. “What did you say? I hate it the most when someone points out I’m naked!”
The same body, different personalities, were displayed in front of everyone. Su Xinghe’s calmness contrasted sharply with Mohuoluoja’s aggressiveness. It was hard to imagine they were born of each other, yet seemed destined to destroy one another.
Upon noticing Mohuoluoja’s mounting fury, Su Xinghe remarked, “Oh, is screaming a barbarian’s way of expressing anger?”
Su Xinghe continued to provoke, seemingly unafraid of Mohuoluoja, despite his status as an Ancient Great Deity.
“Fine then, prepare to face your end!”
Mohuoluoja, gripping Blood-Stained Painting, slithered forward with a menacing motion.
