Desperados Attack - Chapter 62 - The Black Wolf Banner
dentity, as could be deduced from their still confident gazes.
It was evident, they had no idea that Mohuoluoja symbolized evil and terror.
Chapter 62 – The Black Wolf Banner
Mohuoluoja, a name synonymous with evil.
“Are you saying you are Mohuoluoja?”
Duan Pingzhang’s face slightly changed color, but he remained exceptionally calm, inwardly certain that this man was indeed Mohuoluoja, though he was still verifying it.
“Hmph!” Mohuoluoja did not answer him but instead demanded, “Hand over the Black Wolf Banner!”
“The Black Wolf Banner?”
Duan Pingzhang’s heart skipped a beat, though he did not show it. On the other hand, Duanmu Xun appeared somewhat panicked.
After a moment, Duanmu Xun, seeing that Mohuoluoja was silent, asked, “What Black Wolf Banner? I haven’t heard of it!”
Her resolute attitude rebuked everything before her, as if nothing could change her mind. Could the Black Wolf Banner really be in her possession?
What exactly is the Black Wolf Banner?
In Ancient Times, there was a man named Zha Tian, whose abilities were so great he could reach the heavens and delve into the earth, and what made him memorable was his capture of the Four Divine Beasts.
The reason they were called the Four Divine Beasts was that before Zha Tian captured them, each guarded a region, acting as auspicious creatures.
However, Zha Tian extracted all of their spiritual power and infused it into four stone artifacts he had crafted.
These four artifacts, blessed by the Four Divine Beasts, became treasures beyond compare. They are known as the White Tiger Banner, Azure Loong Talisman, Vermilion Bird Seal, and Black Tortoise Command.
After their spiritual energy was extracted, the Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Black Tortoise turned into mere mundane objects of the mortal world.
Being spirit beasts, they placed a curse on those who possessed their spiritual power, condemning them to a life of relentless struggle.
This was not a malevolent curse, but it was certainly a nightmare for those who sought power, as they could never rest.
In contrast, after creating these four divine artifacts, Zha Tian pledged allegiance to Chi You, the Human Emperor at the time.
Zha Tian was indeed an ambitious man. After forging these artifacts, he held the might of half the world in his hands.
But to become a true king, one must bow down.
At that time, the world was divided into three: Chi You in the northern Yellow River region, Xuanyuan, the Yellow Emperor in the central plains, and Shennong, the Yan Emperor in the Western Barbarian Region.
The Yan and Yellow Emperors had no desire for conflict and focused solely on protecting their territories.
In contrast, Chi You desired to unite all under his rule, and with similar ambitions, Zha Tian joined his tribe.
Though a mighty warrior king, Zha Tian was dependent on others, specifically Shao Hao.
As a descendant of the great deity Fuxi, Shao Hao coincidentally shared Chi You’s vision of unifying the world.
Compared to Shao Hao, Chi You was aware of his limitations, content with military conquest while leaving governance to Shao Hao.
Zha Tian, who always strategized with a keen mind, initially approached Shao Hao and persuaded him, yet he did not reveal the existence of the four divine artifacts.
He was well aware that a formidable leader like Shao Hao, upon achieving complete victory, would likely forget past alliances and ruthlessly eliminate Chi You.
Zha Tian’s allegiance to Chi You was rooted in gratitude for a sword Chi You had once gifted him, leading Zha Tian to honor it by naming it “Blood-Stained Painting.”
After joining forces with Chi You in battle, Zha Tian entrusted the four divine artifacts to him. The White Tiger Banner, capable of summoning a white tiger, could alone fend off hundreds of thousands of fierce soldiers.
The Azure Loong Talisman was equally powerful, not only able to change a person’s will but also erase their memories, which had repeatedly helped Chi You’s army secure vital secrets and achieve victories throughout the southern regions of Zhuo Prefecture.
As Chi You’s ambitions grew, he sought a decisive battle with Xuanyuan, possessing the Black Tortoise Command to protect his troops from aquatic invasions, walking on the Hai River as if on flat ground.
However, Chi You was wary of Xuanyuan’s divine summoning techniques.
Thus, Chi You led his vast army to the Land of Mánxī, intending to seize the territories of Shennong.
But the Yan Emperor, Shennong, would not easily surrender his lands.
At noon one day, Chi You led the White Tiger forces to attack the Yan Emperor’s territory. The Yan Emperor mounted a defense but was no match for Chi You and was disastrously defeated.
Having triumphed, Chi You occupied the Yan Emperor’s lands but sensed a threat of overshadowing authority upon learning that Shao Hao had the four divine artifacts without his knowledge.
He then found a junior disciple from the same lineage as Zha Tian, but the disciple’s abilities paled in comparison; he lacked the capability to forge artifacts to rival those of Zha Tian, let alone surpass them.
Nevertheless, Shao Hao had captured four demon beasts capable of contending with the four divine beasts: the black wolf, red crane, yellow jiao1, and Qiúniú.
The junior disciple had no choice but to rely on his own methods. After exhausting all his knowledge, he finally crafted artifacts that could rival the divine ones: the Black Wolf Banner to counter the White Tiger Banner, the Yellow Jiao Pen to challenge the Azure Loong Talisman, the Red Crane Pearl to prevent the Vermilion Bird Seal from achieving rebirth, and the Qiúniú to contend with the heavens and earth.
Though powerful, their only flaw was the immense strain they placed on the user’s spirit.
After acquiring these four divine artifacts, Shao Hao sent someone disguised as Zha Tian to meet with the Yan Emperor.
Following his defeat, the Yan Emperor fled to Zhuolu to seek the help of the Xuanyuan Emperor.
The junior disciple repeated his senior brother’s tactics by handing over the four devil’s artifacts to the Yan and Yellow Emperors.
The Xuanyuan Emperor, eager to rid the tribes of this scourge, united them and prepared for a grand battle on the fields of Zhuolu.
During the Battle of Zhuolu, the Xuanyuan Emperor’s forces, named after wild beasts, demonstrated formidable power.
Chi You’s troops, despite being bolstered by the White Tiger Banner, could not withstand the combined forces of the Yan and Yellow Emperors. Just as Chi You faced inevitable defeat, the sky darkened, and a thick fog enveloped the area, accompanied by fierce winds and lightning, preventing the Xuanyuan Emperor’s soldiers from pursuing.
Chi You had summoned the “Lords of Wind and Rain” to assist in battle.
Not to be outdone, the Xuanyuan Emperor performed a ritual to call upon celestial maidens to disperse the storm.
In an instant, the wind ceased, the rain stopped, and clear skies prevailed, leading to Chi You’s defeat.
Throughout the war, the Yan and Yellow Emperors never used the four devil’s artifacts provided by Shao Hao, believing that to use such evil tools would make them no different from Chi You. Thus, after the junior disciple retreated, they locked the artifacts away in the Magic-Sealing Box.
Legend has it that to ensure the permanent separation of the four devil’s artifacts, Shennong took the Black Wolf Banner back to the Land of Mánxī, released Qiúniú into the mystical forests, and the Red Crane Pearl and Yellow Jiao Pen were entombed by the Xuanyuan Emperor.
Today, all these events have faded into legend, lost to time.
