Demon-Wraith Plagued World: From Commoner to Supreme - Chapter 8 - Midnight Slaughter
“Xiao Feng, did they come to collect the protection fee again? Did you give them the money?” Mother Lin asked as she entered the house, finally recovering from the earlier fright.
“I gave it,” Lin Feng replied.
To divert his mother’s attention, Lin Feng took out some wild boar meat, vegetables, and rice.
“Where did this come from? How did you have money to buy these? This could have been exchanged for rice husk and corn porridge, enough to last us ten days!” Mother Lin said with concern.
Having lived through hard times, the thought of eating meat for two consecutive days made her uneasy.
“Don’t worry, Mother, just eat,” Lin Feng reassured her. “You too, little sister.”
He then explained how he had helped out at the slaughterhouse, gotten a part-time job, and received the pork from Wu the Third.
After hearing Lin Feng’s explanation, Mother Lin finally relaxed.
“Your Uncle Wu is a good man. When you work there, don’t slack off. Make sure to help out wherever you can,” she advised while eating.
“Don’t worry, Mother, I understand,” Lin Feng replied.
Watching his little sister eat with a mouthful of food and his mother smiling, Lin Feng felt an immense sense of happiness. His loved ones must never suffer any harm.
After his mother and sister finished eating, it was still midday. Lin Feng stepped out of the house, knowing it wasn’t the right time to act.
He went into the city, spent half a tael of silver at a restaurant, and ordered a pot of wine and a table full of dishes, eating slowly.
After a satisfying meal, he wandered around the outer city but found no good opportunities to make money. The better jobs had long been taken by those with connections, leaving only the hard and poorly paid ones, even worse than the slaughterhouse.
He bought a few things, left Kaiyang County, and walked through the shantytown, taking another stroll around.
By the time he returned home, it was evening. Mother Lin had already cooked dinner, and Lin Feng ate with his family.
Later, he converted the four Upgrade Points from his afternoon and evening meals into cultivation improvements.

After adding the points, Lin Feng felt his strength increase again. His physique underwent some changes, with his muscles feeling slightly swollen.
Under the dim candlelight in the room, he could see the distinct muscle lines on his upper body.
He practiced some punches in the courtyard, familiarizing himself with his body’s changes, and then retired early.
In the middle of the night, with the wind howling and the shantytown silent, Lin Feng sensed that his family was sound asleep. He quietly got up and climbed out of the small courtyard, a Pig-killing Knife strapped to his back.
A Pig-killing Knife was quite suitable for dealing with these beasts.
He had deliberately wandered around the shantytown today to scout the area.
The only entertainment spot in the shantytown was a tavern. Lin Feng knew that if Scar-Ge had nothing else to do, he would definitely be there drinking. Now was the perfect time; if they were drinking, Scar-Ge and his lackeys should be quite inebriated by now.
Soon, Lin Feng arrived at the tavern, only to find it unusually quiet tonight. From a distance, he could see only the staff and the owner inside. There was no one else.
“Not drinking here today?” Lin Feng murmured to himself. “Looks like he’s at home. That’s even better; saves me the trouble of waiting.”
If Scar-Ge had been drinking here, Lin Feng had planned to wait outside until they returned home before making his move. But since they weren’t here, he had no choice but to check Scar-Ge’s home.
Lin Feng slipped back into the shadows, moving like a ghost toward Scar-Ge’s house. It was easy to recognize-the largest and most luxurious place in the shantytown. A single-story house with a big courtyard.
“He’s definitely home,” Lin Feng thought, hearing the noise inside-people playing cards and drinking. Listening closely, he discerned Scar-Ge and four others, all tough-looking but ultimately powerless drunkards.
Swallowing hard, Lin Feng’s heart pounded fiercely. After all, this was his first time taking a life. But then he thought of his mother and little sister, and remembered Scar-Ge’s lecherous gaze. Anger flared within him.
Hesitation leads to defeat. Without further delay, Lin Feng drew the Pig-killing Knife from his back, bit down on the blade’s spine, and with a swift motion, vaulted over the courtyard wall.
Inside, the five men continued drinking and playing cards, oblivious to the grim reaper approaching. Lin Feng crept closer, reaching the door in a few strides. Still unnoticed.
The next moment, he pushed the door open. Knife in hand, he burst in. Before they could react, he stabbed the knife into the kidney of the lackey closest to the door. As he did, he felt an uncanny familiarity with the human body, as if it were merely livestock on a butcher’s block.
Butcher’s Deconstruction! This sensation stemmed from his technique, Lin Feng realized instantly. He entered a peculiar state, pulling the knife out and plunging it horizontally between two ribs, meeting no resistance, piercing the heart.
Withdrawing the knife, blood quickly soaked the man’s clothes from behind, and he slumped to the ground. Lin Feng continued, swinging the knife to strike another lackey’s neck. The Pig-killing Knife, precise as a scalpel, sliced cleanly through the gap between two vertebrae, severing the head in a single stroke.
Blood sprayed like a fountain, splattering Scar-Ge and another lackey. Only then did the drunken men realize two of their comrades were dead, and a masked intruder had entered the room.
Lin Feng’s right fist smashed into the third lackey’s right temple as he turned his head, responding to the commotion. The blow, with the force of several hundred jin, sent his head crashing into a nearby pillar, splitting open. His neck twisted at an unnatural angle, lifeless.
“You!” The remaining two, heavily intoxicated, tried to shout but found their tongues uncooperative. Overwhelmed by fear, they trembled uncontrollably. Scar-Ge even wet himself.
Both staggered back two steps. But Lin Feng advanced, grabbing Scar-Ge’s mouth with his right hand. With a crunch, he dislocated Scar-Ge’s jaw effortlessly. Simultaneously, his right hand swung again, the Pig-killing Knife slicing swiftly across the other lackey’s throat.
Blood sprayed, splattering Lin Feng’s face.
