- Chapter 53 - Disgust, Dong Xuan
Under Ding Yun’s command, the disciples’ medicinal baths were already reduced to mere dregs, far inferior to those of other teams. But now, Lin Feng’s medicinal bath was the worst of the worst, a complete waste. Mu Yu and You Lin’s baths at least had some remnants of herbs visible, but his was barely distinguishable from plain water, save for its color. Clearly, Bai Sheng was behind this, deliberately trying to disgust him.
Though Lin Feng felt a flicker of murderous intent, he ultimately held back. Bai Sheng was a master at the Second Realm of Vital Surge, far beyond his ability to confront. Not to mention, Bai Sheng held the rank of platoon commander. Complaining to the Captain of a Hundred Households would be futile; if it were effective, their team wouldn’t be treated differently.
So, Lin Feng swallowed his pride. Although the monthly medicinal bath was crucial for others, potentially helping them break through realm bottlenecks, he didn’t rely solely on it. After trying it out, he gained 3 Upgrade Points, then discarded the now useless bath.
Time flew by, and soon it was noon. Lin Feng arrived at the Drunken Immortal Inn as promised. The reserved private room was on the second floor, where Zhao Chengze was already waiting for him. Upon entering, Lin Feng saw not only Zhao Chengze but also a young girl, around fifteen or sixteen years old. She had an oval face and was dressed elegantly in a long apricot-yellow dress, her figure delicate and graceful.
Seeing Lin Feng’s handsome features, even more striking than her cousin Zhao Chengze, she blushed and lowered her head, unable to meet his gaze. Her heart fluttered like a startled deer, yet she couldn’t resist sneaking another glance at Lin Feng.
Lin Feng couldn’t help but admire her beauty, a different kind from Yu Qingqing’s-gentle and soft.
“Zhao-Ge!” Lin Feng greeted Zhao Chengze upon seeing him.
“Come, this is my cousin, Dong Xuan.” Zhao Chengze introduced them.
“Greetings, Lin-Ge!” Dong Xuan curtsied to Lin Feng.
“Greetings, Miss Dong!” Lin Feng returned the gesture, curious why Zhao Chengze’s cousin bore the surname Dong.
“Sit down. My cousin takes her mother’s surname. Originally, she lived in the Prefecture City. Sadly, my uncle and aunt met their end at the hands of Demons, so she returned to the Zhao family,” Zhao Chengze explained as he invited Lin Feng to sit.
Lin Feng understood. As a normal young man, he was naturally attracted to Dong Xuan’s exceptional beauty. But he was still too insignificant to consider marriage. He steadied his mind, treating the occasion as a simple meal. He ate and drank freely, unaffected by Dong Xuan’s presence, engaging in lively conversation with Zhao Chengze and occasionally chatting with Dong Xuan. The atmosphere was pleasant.
Throughout the meal, Dong Xuan frequently stole glances at Lin Feng. She had encountered many wealthy young masters before, all captivated by her beauty, either feigning elegance and flaunting their literary talents or showcasing their wealth and martial prowess.
No one was quite like Lin Feng, so straightforward and unpretentious. He neither seemed distant nor did he stare at her incessantly. It was as if he was merely attending a casual gathering with Zhao Chengze. With Lin Feng’s handsome face and impressive stature, her heart was already filled with joy, even worrying if Lin Feng would take a liking to her.
Just then, a knock came at the door. The waiter announced that a lady was looking for someone. Zhao Chengze looked puzzled, glancing at Lin Feng and Dong Xuan, who both appeared equally unaware. He instructed the waiter to invite the guest in.
To Lin Feng’s surprise, the visitor was Zhu Cui’er!
“Lin-Ge’er, have you really abandoned me?” Zhu Cui’er burst into tears upon seeing Lin Feng. Ever since she was driven out by Mother Lin the previous day, she couldn’t let go. She was determined to see Lin Feng, believing that if she could just speak to him kindly, he might soften and return to her.
By chance, she had seen Lin Feng enter the Drunken Immortal Inn as she entered the Inner City. After hesitating for a while, she finally mustered the courage to come in.
“Zhu Cui’er, ever since you chose Xu Xiong, we have nothing to do with each other! How many times do I have to say it before you understand?” Lin Feng frowned at the woman who seemed to live in her own world, thick-skinned and greedy, feeling utterly annoyed.
By now, Zhao Chengze and Dong Xuan had also realized who she was. The two matchmakers had already spread the shamelessness of the Zhu Family far and wide.
“Lin-Ge’er, you still love me, right? Let’s start over! From now on, I’ll be yours alone. Whether you’re rich or poor, I’ll follow you wholeheartedly! I’m willing to live a simple life with you!” Zhu Cui’er’s tears flowed like a river.
“I know I’m not as capable as this sister here, but I can be devoted to you, serving you tea, preparing meals,” she continued, her words making Lin Feng feel nauseated.
Before Lin Feng could respond, Dong Xuan spoke up. “Lin-Ge, I know a bit about cooking too!” she said earnestly, a hint of defiance in her expression, which made Lin Feng both amused and exasperated.
“My cousin’s cooking is indeed excellent, even better than the Drunken Immortal Inn’s,” Zhao Chengze chimed in with praise.
“I know Lin-Ge’er isn’t someone who abandons the old for the new. But if you don’t mind, I’m willing to be a concubine or even a maid, just to stay by your side,” Zhu Cui’er pleaded, trying to guilt Lin Feng into accepting her.
But Lin Feng wasn’t one to fall for such tricks. “I do mind! Zhu Cui’er, if you don’t leave now, I’ll have the staff throw you out!” Lin Feng declared, unwilling to let her ruin their meal any further.
Though Dong Xuan knew Lin Feng had no ties with Zhu Cui’er, she couldn’t help but feel a bit pleased by his decisiveness.
Zhao Chengze nodded in agreement and called the waiter to escort Zhu Cui’er out.
“Lin-Ge’er, you can’t treat me like this. I was just confused for a moment!” Zhu Cui’er cried as the waiter dragged her away.
“Lin Feng, you ungrateful, treacherous scoundrel! I misjudged you!” Zhu Cui’er’s voice faded as she was taken away.
The commotion left Lin Feng with no appetite to continue. He paid the bill and left.
“Second Brother, do you think Master Lin would be interested in me?” Dong Xuan asked Zhao Chengze after Lin Feng had gone.
“I think Lin Feng isn’t in a rush to settle down. It’s all about fate,” Zhao Chengze sighed, seeing Dong Xuan’s anxious expression, feeling as though he might have made a mistake trying to match Lin Feng with Dong Xuan.
That night, the Zhu Family sat trembling before Xu San, whose face was as dark as a stormy sky, like a volcano on the verge of eruption…
