Demon-Wraith Plagued World: From Commoner to Supreme - Chapter 36 - Threats and Pursuit
Lin Feng picked up the cup of wine and downed it in one gulp. The strong liquor slid down his throat and settled warmly in his stomach. Unlike the first time, the reaction wasn’t as intense. He felt a comforting warmth spreading from his belly. Just as the energy was about to surge, it was absorbed by the panel, converting into Upgrade Points.
“One gulp, one point gained!”
“Back in the late Body Forging stage, a single sip would yield five points, but now only one. That’s quite a drop!”
Lin Feng glanced at the panel’s Upgrade Points and sighed. Still, it wasn’t bad; one sip was worth a whole meal! He continued drinking, one cup after another. By the fifth cup, he couldn’t take it anymore! It felt like a fire was raging inside him.
“Seems like not all energy can be instantly converted,” Lin Feng murmured to himself, sealing the remaining wine in a gourd for tomorrow.

Today’s meals, the Slaughterhouse harvest, and half a jug of Great Drunken Immortal Brew added up to nine Upgrade Points! Lin Feng decided not to apply the nine points to his cultivation just yet. He planned to accumulate more tomorrow and then make a significant leap, advancing his cultivation to the Mid-stage Bone Forging Realm. This would greatly enhance both his cultivation and combat power! With two perfected martial techniques, even a Late Stage Bone Forging opponent wouldn’t scare him!
…
“Master Sun, how about it? You wouldn’t want Guardian Gu to find out about your affair with his concubine, would you? Tsk tsk, given Guardian Gu’s temperament, once he knows, he’ll probably crush your skull!”
Xu Qiang sneered at Sun Ming, the Hall Master of the Green Snake Society. Sun Ming’s hands were clenched, veins bulging. A mix of anger and fear brewed within him, turning his once fair and handsome face into a grim visage.
“Constable Xu, that’s a disciple of the Demon Exorcism Division! You dare to target someone from the Demon Exorcism Division?”
Sun Ming gritted his teeth.
“Scoff, though he’s a disciple, he’s merely a warrior in the late Body Forging stage! Surely, Master Sun, a Mid-stage Bone Forging powerhouse, isn’t afraid of such a presence? Assassinate him, and you might survive. If you don’t, and fall into Guardian Gu’s hands, you’re surely doomed!”
Xu Qiang, confident in his scheme, continued to threaten Sun Ming.
Sun Ming’s eyes dimmed at these words. He couldn’t fathom how Xu Qiang discovered his secret meetings with Guardian Gu’s concubine. Now, caught in a bind, Xu Qiang was coercing him to assassinate Lin Feng, the Demon Exorcism Division disciple. If he complied, he’d be handing Xu Qiang even more leverage over him. His life would be at Xu Qiang’s mercy!
“No way! No matter how you put it, he’s still a disciple of the Demon Exorcism Division. You’re giving me too much credit, Constable Xu, if you think I’d dare provoke them!” Sun Ming said coldly.
“Heh, if Master Sun doesn’t want to do it, I won’t force you. I’ll just head over to Master Gu’s place; he should still be awake,” Xu Qiang said, standing up as if to leave.
“Wait! It’s difficult, yes. But I didn’t say I wouldn’t do it! I want more money-two thousand taels and a Bone Refining Pill!” Sun Ming’s tone shifted as he spoke.
“Alright! Master Sun, you drive a hard bargain! Consider the first thousand taels as a deposit. As for the Bone Refining Pill, even I can’t get it easily. It will take some time. Once the task is done, I’ll give it to you,” Xu Qiang replied.
“No way! At least give me the Bone Refining Pill before the action. It’s too risky to make a move inside the city. We should wait until the kid leaves the city. Otherwise, if we fail and draw attention, it will be the end for us! This should give you enough time to get the pill, right, Constable Xu?” Sun Ming said.
Xu Qiang frowned slightly, looking at Sun Ming, who stared straight ahead, unfazed by Xu Qiang’s gaze.
“Fine! But Master Sun, don’t try any tricks! And don’t think about sneaking out of Kaiyang County! If I could uncover your secret, I can certainly track your movements!” Xu Qiang finally agreed to Sun Ming’s demands for more money. To have someone take on such a dangerous task, a price must be paid. As for the Bone Refining Pill, he’d have to approach the Chief Constable for that.
The next day, Lin Feng went about his usual routine, heading to the Slaughterhouse and then to the Demon Exorcism Division. At the division, he continued to hone his knife skills and build his strength. At noon, he still fetched a meal from the canteen for Commander Ding.
Unexpectedly, after returning home, Wu the Third’s brother-in-law, Pan Liancheng, the owner of the Slaughterhouse, visited him with Wu the Third, bringing some precious meats as gifts. Zhao Sheng, after the previous incident, also gritted his teeth, borrowed some money, and pooled his savings to buy a house in the outer city. They all came together to invite Lin Feng for a drink.
Lin Feng then joined Pan Liancheng and Wu the Third at Zhao Sheng’s place for food and drinks. Lin Yu was already busy there, helping out. Pan Liancheng, a businessman who not only ran the Slaughterhouse but also had a small shop in the outer city, was naturally eager to make more connections. Lin Feng could see that despite Pan Liancheng’s outward success, he lived cautiously, walking on thin ice. This was because his Martial Arts cultivation wasn’t strong, and he had no backing. He barely managed to hold his ground in the outer city by greasing the right palms. For Wu the Third’s sake, Lin Feng didn’t mind lending a hand within his capabilities. But anything beyond that was out of the question.
After the meal, Lin Feng walked home alone. Halfway there, he suddenly felt a sense of foreboding, his right hand instinctively reaching for the Pig-killing Knife at his side. He turned to look back, seemingly catching a fleeting shadow, followed by faint footsteps. Lin Feng gave chase, only to find himself in a dead-end alley with no one in sight.
“Did I drink too much and see things?” Lin Feng shook his head, muttering to himself as he left the area.
A moment later, a figure emerged from the shadows. “What a sharp kid! I can’t just follow him around carelessly, or I’ll alert him,” the figure said, then leaped over the wall and disappeared.
A while later, Lin Feng emerged from a corner. With his Perfected Swift Wind Leg Technique, he moved like a ghost, and the pursuer hadn’t noticed his return. “Judging by the figure and aura, it wasn’t Xu Qiang. Looks like someone really is keeping tabs on me! At least they’re at the Bone Forging Realm. Persistent, aren’t they?” Lin Feng sighed and quickly headed home. He needed to focus on advancing his cultivation.
