- Chapter 28 - Xu Xiong's Provocation
Seeing Lin Feng appear unscathed, Xu Xiong’s smile froze instantly, then turned into a scowl. “What on earth is Yan Song doing? Did he overexert himself at Chunhong Building yesterday? Damn it, he hasn’t made a move yet!”
Since nothing had been done yet, Xu Xiong decided to collect some interest today. He couldn’t let Lin Feng have it easy. With that thought, he hobbled toward Lin Feng.
“Heh, Lin Feng, if we’re talking about the Shantytown, you treated Cui Er the best! I should thank you, huh?” Xu Xiong sneered, pulling out a ten-tael silver ingot. The sight of the large silver piece made those who had been scrambling for copper coins stop in their tracks, their eyes fixed on it, breathing heavily. After all, it was enough to feed a family for a year.
“Here, pick it up, and it’s yours!” Xu Xiong tossed the silver in front of Lin Feng, taunting him.
Mother Lin and Lin Man glared at Xu Xiong, clearly aware that this cripple had no good intentions.
“Wow! Young Master Xu is so generous. If only he’d throw that silver my way!” someone exclaimed.
“Lin-Ge’er, just pick it up! Pride won’t fill your stomach!” another advised.
“Yeah, ten taels of silver, that’s a lot!” others chimed in.
Xu Xiong’s cronies wore sinister smiles. They knew that if Lin Feng picked up the money, Xu Xiong would accuse him of theft and have them beat him up. It was a trick their Young Master often used.
Butcher Zhu’s family watched Lin Feng curiously, wondering what he would do, as if observing an amusing spectacle. In just a few days, they had forgotten that they too were once part of this community, living humbly and resenting the rich brats.
Lin Feng simply stared coldly at Xu Xiong, saying nothing.
“What? Not enough money for you? How about this?” Xu Xiong tossed another ten-tael ingot, then two more, making it forty taels in total. The silver rolled on the ground, and the eyes of the Shantytown residents turned red with envy. They wished they were Lin Feng, so they could take that money.
Lin Feng let out a cold laugh. He didn’t think less of his neighbors. In such chaotic times, human lives were as insignificant as grass. Without his panel and strength, he might have had to stoop down to pick up the silver himself. He was grateful to have the panel and the power to choose.
“Mother, little sister, let’s go inside,” Lin Feng said, turning to lead his mother and sister back into the house.
“Hold on! You ungrateful wretch!” Xu Xiong shouted in anger.
Lin Feng ignored him, ushering his mother and sister inside.
Seeing Lin Feng disregard him, Xu Xiong was furious. He took out another silver ingot and hurled it at Lin Feng.
The silver flew straight toward the back of Lin Feng’s head with considerable force and accuracy. Xu Xiong was clearly practiced in using silver as a weapon. If it hit an ordinary person, it would surely cause a bloody injury.
The onlookers held their breath in suspense. But Lin Feng, as if he had eyes on the back of his head, tilted his head slightly and dodged it effortlessly.
The silver ingot hit the door with a loud clang and then bounced back, inexplicably landing right on Xu Xiong’s head, leaving a large bump.
“Ah!!” Xu Xiong howled in pain.
Zhu Cui’er rushed over to check on him, worried about her meal ticket and source of money. He couldn’t afford to be injured!
“Someone, beat him up! Break his arms and legs! Leave him breathing, but don’t let him die!” Xu Xiong finally lost his temper, waving his hand to signal the household guards behind him to give Lin Feng a thorough beating.
Four of the five guards charged forward, leaving one to stay by Xu Xiong’s side. Before anyone could react, all four guards were sent flying back, each spitting blood and falling unconscious.
“What! What’s going on?” Xu Xiong exclaimed in shock.
“You useless fools! Big Tiger, get in there! Break him for me!” he shouted.
Standing beside him, Big Tiger, a burly man in the late Body Forging stage, was Xu Xiong’s most capable guard.
“Looks like we’ve got a real fighter here. But today, the Young Master wants you crippled, and you won’t escape that fate,” Big Tiger said, initially thinking he wouldn’t need to step in against a mere boy. He was concerned that if he struck, the boy might not survive, which wouldn’t be ideal since the Young Master wanted him to suffer.
The onlookers quickly retreated into their homes, not expecting Lin Feng to be a warrior. Somehow, he had taken down the four guards in an instant, leaving them bleeding and unconscious.
The most shocked were Butcher Zhu, Aunt Zhu, and Zhu Cui’er. They had watched Lin Feng grow up and thought they knew his capabilities. Despite his father being a warrior, Lin Feng’s family often struggled to have enough to eat. How could he possibly be a warrior?
Zhu Cui’er found it hard to believe. She had never noticed Lin Feng being so formidable when they were together. Suddenly, a sense of unease crept into her heart. Had Lin Feng been deceiving her all along, hiding his warrior cultivation?
“Crack, crack, crack!” Big Tiger twisted his neck, the sound of bones cracking echoing as he prepared to charge at Lin Feng.
“Kid, you’re dead!” he shouted, lunging at Lin Feng.
Lin Feng smirked, unleashing a powerful kick with his perfected Swift Wind Leg Technique. It was something beyond what someone like Big Tiger, in the late Body Forging stage, could withstand.
To Big Tiger, Lin Feng’s leg seemed to appear everywhere, impossible to defend against. It split into a dozen shadows, all attacking him at once. He couldn’t tell which one was real.
Instinctively, he raised his arms to shield himself, but with a resounding “bang,” Lin Feng’s kick smashed through, shattering his arms. Big Tiger’s body was sent flying like a cannonball, crashing through the wall of Butcher Zhu’s house, leaving a massive hole.
Big Tiger spat blood, writhing in agony, unable to get back on his feet.
“You! You’re a perfected Body Forging warrior!” Xu Xiong stammered, his legs turning to jelly. Zhu Cui’er couldn’t support his weight, and he collapsed to the ground.
In the next moment, a razor-sharp Pig-killing Knife appeared at Xu Xiong’s throat. The blade, having claimed many lives and animals, exuded a menacing Baleful Aura.
Xu Xiong felt a chilling sensation, his entire body tensing up.
“Please, don’t kill me! Don’t kill me!” Xu Xiong pleaded, realizing the tide had turned. Lin Feng had taken down Big Tiger with a single move, and now the knife was at his throat.
He immediately knelt, begging Lin Feng for mercy, feeling the sharpness of the blade. Xu Xiong wet himself in fear.
Beside him, Zhu Cui’er was also terrified, pleading with Lin Feng, “Lin-Ge’er, please, don’t kill Young Master Xu. He was just joking with you!”
If Xu Xiong were gone, her good days would end too.
“Yes, yes, just a joke! Lin-Ge, you’re magnanimous, please spare me this time! I won’t dare again, I promise!” Xu Xiong continued to beg, kowtowing to Lin Feng in desperation.
Butcher Zhu and Aunt Zhu were too stunned to speak, unable to process what was happening. They never imagined Lin Feng would dare to draw a knife on Xu Xiong.
“Let it go?” Lin Feng sneered, his voice dripping with disdain.
