Demon-Wraith Plagued World: From Commoner to Supreme - Chapter 22 - Making Connections
“Using Qi to Control the Knife?”
Lin Feng was startled by his own thought. Based on his current understanding, the first three stages of a warrior’s realm-External Refinement Realm, Vital Surge Realm, and Essence Refinement Realm-even reaching the Essence Refinement Realm shouldn’t allow for something like controlling a weapon with Qi. Although the Essence Refinement Realm generates energy similar to internal force, it can only exert influence through physical contact with the body or a weapon. Controlling a weapon out of thin air was simply impossible.
Lin Feng tried to recapture that sensation, but it was as fleeting as a dream. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t find that feeling again. He only sensed a peculiar connection to the Pig-killing Knife, a connection absent with other weapons like a hatchet.
After several attempts, he found himself quickly exhausted both physically and mentally. “It seems my cultivation isn’t enough. A Body Forging practitioner dreaming of using Qi to control a knife? That’s just wishful thinking!” Lin Feng mocked himself internally. Yet, he couldn’t help but hope to one day wield such power. If he could master it, it would be a strike that would shake the heavens.
Having perfected the Swift Wind Leg Technique, Lin Feng returned to the courtyard and began to move. In the confined space, he darted and dodged without touching a thing, his movements almost silent. Clearly, his body technique had reached a terrifying level. Perfecting a technique usually required years of accumulation and a stroke of insight, yet Lin Feng had achieved it overnight. If others knew, they’d be green with envy-literally and figuratively.
Established powers would certainly suppress emerging ones to protect their interests and status. Once Lin Feng adjusted to his newfound strength, he stopped and returned to his room to rest.
Zhao Sheng, after a night of fierce fighting, successfully seized Le’s territory. With Le gone, only a few minor leaders remained, offering little resistance. Zhao Sheng looted the area thoroughly and generously rewarded Lin Yu, promoting him to a Little Leader to oversee the area where Lin Feng’s family lived.
The next day, the entire neighborhood learned that the Great Knife Gang had taken over and that Lin Yu was in charge. They regretted their earlier actions, realizing they shouldn’t have been so quick to demand their money back when Lin Feng didn’t become a constable at the County Yamen. Their behavior was truly disgraceful.
Returning from the slaughterhouse, Lin Feng found Zhao Sheng and Lin Yu visiting his home. The neighbors, seeing the Big Leader of the Great Knife Gang visiting Lin Feng’s home with gifts, were filled with regret. “What’s going on? Why would the Big Leader of the Great Knife Gang come to such a small place?” Uncle Niu, leaning on his cane, watched from a distance with Aunt Niu, puzzled.
“And bringing gifts, no less. Lin Yu is just a newly promoted Little Leader! Isn’t this a bit much?”
“I don’t know, but it must have something to do with Lin Feng! I don’t know what happened, but it must be something significant!”
The Lin Family has really made it big, just look at our son! Still so clueless!
Ah! Comparing oneself to others can be infuriating!” Uncle Niu sighed.
“It’s all your fault! If you hadn’t been so petty and rushed to get the money back, we could have at least gotten some benefits now. Lin Yu might have given us a break on the protection fees!
Now, forget about a discount; we’ll be lucky if they don’t charge us extra!” On the other side, Aunt Zhang, who had been worried about running out of food a few days ago, was now filled with regret, feeling anxious and uneasy. She glanced towards Lin Feng’s house, unsure of what she was thinking.
As for Uncle Wu, he had already died in the mouth of a Demon Beast last time. His son, San Shi, had gone to marry into another family.
Lin Feng welcomed Zhao Sheng into his home, ignoring the neighbors gathered outside. After the last incident, he had no intention of showing these people any kindness. Lin Yu would collect the protection fees as he saw fit; otherwise, these folks would surely take advantage.
“Brother Lin, today is Yu’s first day managing the territory. I also came to see Aunt and your little sister!” Zhao Sheng greeted Lin Feng.
“Brother Zhao, your visit is an honor for me! You didn’t have to be so courteous and bring so many gifts!” Lin Feng replied with a smile, bowing slightly.
Zhao Sheng and Lin Yu went to see Mother Lin, who immediately began preparing a meal. With Lin Yu becoming a Little Leader, she was delighted; at least Lin Yu wouldn’t be bullied anymore. She took out all the meat from the house and cooked some rice, planning to celebrate properly. Lin Man obediently followed her mother to the kitchen to help.
“Brother Zhao, our home is a bit small, I hope you don’t mind!” Lin Feng said, taking the tea Lin Yu had brought, boiling water, and making some for them to drink.
“Haha, Brother Lin, you’re too modest!” They exchanged pleasantries for a while.
Then Zhao Sheng brought up the main topic. “Brother Lin, I’ve already spoken with the Family this morning. They’ve agreed to pave the way for you. Tomorrow, you can go for the assessment at the reserve camp of the Demon Exorcism Division!”
Lin Feng was surprised; Zhao Sheng had mentioned it just yesterday, and today it was already arranged! He thought Zhao Sheng was just going to try, as establishing connections isn’t as simple as a few words! It’s not something that can be solved with a bit of silver either; it requires a strong background!
Seeing Zhao Sheng speak so casually, Lin Feng knew he must have paid a significant price.
“Thank you! If there’s anything you need in the future, Brother Zhao, I’ll do my best to help!” Lin Feng said earnestly, bowing again.
“Haha, Brother Lin, you saved my wife and daughter; this is nothing!” Zhao Sheng was pleased with Lin Feng’s sincerity. Indeed, he had paid a considerable price this time, using up a favor owed by Young Master Zhao, Zhao Chengze.
But Lin Feng, aside from saving his family, was such a genius. If he entered the reserve camp of the Demon Exorcism Division and grew, he’d be a major asset! This move might not be a loss; it could be a huge gain!
Lin Yu was also happy for his brother and secretly resolved to train harder in martial arts, hoping to one day join the Demon Exorcism Division himself!
Soon, Mother Lin finished cooking, and everyone sat down to eat.
“Damn it! Le couldn’t even finish the job before dying! You should have completed the task before dying!” Yan Song, in the County Yamen, was feeling gloomy.
“I shouldn’t have given the silver so early! Wasted five taels! That’s two months’ pay from the Yamen!”
“Now it’s too late to find someone else; I’ll have to handle it myself! Just a commoner, I can kill him and still make it back in time to enjoy Little Peach at Chunhong Building!”
