Demon Apartment - Chapter 30 - Back to the Third Floor
Zhao Long raised his wrist again to check his watch.
“The Blood Letter Task has only been going on for less than two hours. We still have time! Plus, Ge Qi just died, which means we will have a safe interval period. We aren’t in a particularly urgent situation yet!”
Previously, Zhao Long had been worried, fearing he would be the next victim. Fortunately, it was Ge Qi who suffered! With Ge Qi’s death, Zhao Long felt he had gained a period of survival.
What Zhao Long was thinking at the moment was that Ge Qi was probably like Feng Yu, completely losing himself, as if possessed by an evil spirit, walking to the fourth floor. Only at the moment of death would he regain consciousness. The interval between Feng Yu entering the fourth floor and finally dying was extremely short!
Dong Xie was equally afraid inside, but it was evident that solving the problem without going to the fourth floor was unrealistic. However, Zhao Long’s words did have some merit.
“But we can’t use the police! If we do that, how are we any different from Ge Qi?” Dong Xie was still very resistant to this approach.
“Even if that’s the case…”
For a moment, the three had a significant disagreement. Ge Qi’s death gave Zhao Long the idea that he could live for a while longer, making him unwilling to take risks immediately. After all, there were more than three hours left until the Blood Letter Task ended, which was quite favorable for him. Moreover, Zhao Long realized that deep down, he hoped the police would come.
“Listen, when Ge Qi reported to the police, he clearly indicated that a murder might occur, so the police responding might very well be armed. Although shooting can’t kill the Evil Spirit, as long as the gunfire sounds, even if we’re on other floors, we can hear it and determine if the police are still alive. Then, we can…”
“Shut up!” At this point, Dong Xie showed uncontrollable anger: “How can we do this?”
Dong Xie and Dong Ning, the siblings, firmly rejected this idea without a moment’s hesitation. Zhao Long, seeing their stance, actually admired their moral compass, but admiration aside, he couldn’t bring himself to be so noble.
Just then, they suddenly heard a sound not far away.
“Building 3… this is where the report was made.”
Hearing this, they were all stunned!
“Quick, hide!”
The three immediately ran to a corner of the hallway and hid.
“The police are here…” Dong Xie realized that everything was now unstoppable. They couldn’t go out and explain the situation to the police. Tell them “nothing happened here”? In reality, police aren’t as easy to fool as in movies, and one wrong move could make them suspects.
Soon, they heard footsteps.
“This hallway is so dark…”
“Luckily, the police station isn’t too far from here.”
The police station is nearby?
Dong Xie hadn’t noticed this when checking the map. No wonder the police arrived so quickly.
Zhao Long asked puzzledly, “Strange… why didn’t we hear the police sirens?”
Dong Xie replied, “Police don’t always blare their sirens like in crime movies when responding. Doing so every time would just let criminals escape, wouldn’t it? They only do it at red lights or in traffic jams.”
“So that’s how it is…”
Dong Xie knew this because he had asked the Traffic Police Captain many specific questions about the police, realizing that ordinary people often have many misconceptions about them.
At this moment, they were all nervous, not daring to peek out. After all, this wasn’t like in movies where the protagonist peeks out from a corner unnoticed. Even though the hallway was dark, they didn’t dare to risk it.
Soon, they heard the elevator doors open. Two police officers entered the elevator, and then the doors closed.
“Phew…”
The three exchanged glances. Now that the police were here, what should they do?
Dong Xie handed all the photos to Zhao Long and Dong Ning, then took a key from his pocket.
“Let’s… go to the third floor first. I think the police probably won’t be in danger; after all, they aren’t residents. This Blood Letter Task excludes unrelated people, doesn’t it?”
“Hopefully,” Dong Ning said, clenching her hand, “Damn Ge Qi! I hope he rots in the eighteenth level of hell!”
Then, Dong Xie, Dong Ning, and Zhao Long emerged from the corner and slowly approached the elevator. The police had already gone to the fourth floor. Dong Xie held the key and said, “Let’s hurry to the third floor!”
“Then…”
“If we’re lucky, we can assist those two officers! I don’t want them to die!”
“Yes, I hope they survive too,” Zhao Long nodded, “We can get firsthand information from them.”
Then, the three rushed to the stairwell and quickly headed to the third floor! Ge Qi’s death gave them a safe interval period, allowing them to run quickly without worrying too much about encountering “those things.”
Once on the third floor, they quickly reached the room, and Dong Xie swiftly took out the key and opened the door.
“Quick, get inside!”
This time, there was no need for the precautions of the first entry, thanks to the brief safe period brought by Ge Qi’s death.
After reaching the living room, they began to catch their breath. At this moment… those two police officers should be upstairs. 402 was just a fabrication by Ge Qi, but speaking of which, some rooms here had door numbers, while others didn’t. Those two officers might not find it at all.
The three almost instinctively looked up at the ceiling.
“Hopefully, the Apartment won’t kill them,” Dong Ning’s eyes showed a hopeful expression; she genuinely didn’t want the Blood Letter Task to involve innocent deaths.
At this moment, there was still no movement upstairs.
With Ge Qi’s death, the lighter was gone too. The entire living room was filled with darkness and oppression. The three were almost huddled together.
Five minutes passed, ten minutes passed… twenty minutes passed…
Zhao Long walked to the living room window, using the moonlight outside to see the watch on his wrist.
“It’s almost two in the morning… still no movement upstairs. That’s odd; when Feng Yu died, his screams were clearly heard here.”
If the police encountered “those things” and chose to shoot, the gunfire would certainly be heard here. But there was no sound at all.
So, the three went to the kitchen, and Dong Xie opened the door slightly, looking at the hallway outside. At the other end of the hallway was the elevator.
“Still no movement.”
At this point, they were all panicked.
What exactly was happening on the fourth floor now?
