Demon Apartment - Chapter 15 - The Hole
Although Zhao Long had spoken the words, he hesitated to take the first step forward. Everyone felt there must be something terrifying lurking inside.
“Uh…” Feng Yu instinctively took a step back, unwilling to be the first to enter no matter what.
Ge Qi, on the other hand, let out a bitter laugh, saying, “Do we really have to go in?”
Zhao Long, having reached the limit of his patience, declared, “Fine! I’ll go in first! You all follow me!”
Seeing Zhao Long truly fired up, Feng Yu reluctantly agreed, “Alright, alright! I understand! I’ll go in first!”
Feng Yu was genuinely afraid of completely angering Zhao Long. If Zhao Long discovered the Path to Survival and chose not to share it, that would be terrifying. Relying solely on luck to survive until the end wasn’t impossible, but the odds were incredibly low. After all, once the Blood Letter Task ended, they still had to drive back! The closer they got to the Apartment, the weaker the restrictions on “those things” would become! Entering the Apartment could cleanse all curses, but dying at the doorstep was not unheard of!
As Feng Yu stepped through the door, he bit his lip, glancing around and praying he wouldn’t be the first target, hoping the real danger was confined to the fourth floor and that the fifth floor was safe…
“Don’t block the entrance, get inside!” Zhao Long pushed Feng Yu from behind, entering the room. Then followed Zhao Long, Dong Xie, and Dong Ning.
Dong Xie kept holding Dong Ning’s hand, whispering, “Listen… don’t act rashly again. You scared me to death earlier.”
“Just standing at the door? Can’t rely on those people.”
“Ah Ning… I’ll handle the dangerous stuff for you.”
Dong Xie wasn’t a saint willing to sacrifice himself for others, but Dong Ning was the most important person in his life. He couldn’t bear the thought of anything happening to his younger sister.
Dong Ning gazed at Dong Xie, her eyes unwaveringly determined, “Your life is as precious as mine. I want to leave this cursed Apartment with you!”
Dong Xie felt a warmth in his heart hearing his sister’s words.
Upon entering the room, he constantly observed his surroundings, alert to even the slightest unnatural detail.
When Dong Xie read the blood letter records and notes left by previous residents, he greatly admired Li Yin, who had left the Apartment eight years ago! Li Yin survived by being observant and breaking through mental blind spots. His notes mentioned that surviving the Blood Letter Task required noticing all unnatural aspects and avoiding mental traps. Many residents fell into mental traps during the Blood Letter Task, ultimately walking the path of death!
“The door is conveniently open… Is it a coincidence, or a hint?”
Dong Xie noticed another door nearby and cautiously approached it.
“Give me your selfie stick, Ah Ning.”
“Oh… okay.”
Dong Ning handed the selfie stick to Dong Xie. She knew she couldn’t win against her elder brother’s stubbornness; once he decided on something, nothing could change his mind. No matter what Dong Ning said, Dong Xie wanted to keep her away from danger.
Using the selfie stick, Dong Xie pushed open the door… Since Ge Qi, holding the lighter, hadn’t come over, he couldn’t see what was inside.
Dong Xie immediately pulled Dong Ning back a few steps.
“Shall we take a look inside?”
Ge Qi turned around, looking at the door Dong Xie had opened, and began to walk over step by step.
“You want us to go in first?” Dong Ning’s gaze was filled with dissatisfaction, “Why don’t you go in first?”
“Uh…” Ge Qi felt a bit embarrassed and chose not to respond to Dong Ning, gradually approaching the door to shine the light inside. Although there was nothing unusual, he feared something might be hiding between the door and the wall… Would he be doomed the moment he stepped inside?
At this point, Zhao Long and Feng Yu also approached.
“Let’s take a look inside,” Zhao Long glanced at Ge Qi, saying, “We must explore every area that might hold clues. There’s no other way. Without finding the Path to Survival, we won’t make it through this Blood Letter Task!”
“Alright… alright…” Ge Qi could only grit his teeth and step into the room. Thankfully, his fears didn’t materialize; there was still no furniture, nowhere to hide.
“Hmm?”
By the light of the fire, Dong Xie noticed a small hole in the floor.
“Ge Qi, shine a light on this!”
Under normal circumstances, Dong Xie, a new resident, issuing orders would definitely irritate Ge Qi. But throughout the ordeal, his performance had been increasingly embarrassing, while this brother-sister duo, executing the Blood Letter Instructions for the first time, had remained remarkably composed. Zhao Long was growing more impressed with them. So, despite his irritation, Ge Qi, aware of Zhao Long’s presence, reluctantly approached, asking in a stiff tone, “Shine on what?”
Of course, irritation aside, Ge Qi wasn’t oblivious to the importance of the situation. If Dong Xie truly discovered something that could lead to the Path to Survival, he would be grateful and regard Dong Xie as a benefactor. Thus, he held some expectation.
Dong Xie pointed at the hole in the floor, saying, “Look at this… shine the lighter on it…”
Ge Qi crouched down, searching for the small hole in the floor for quite some time.
“This… is just a small hole in the floor, right?”
Ge Qi was immediately disappointed, even considering moving the lighter away, “Are you making a big deal out of nothing?”
Dong Ning, naturally supporting her elder brother unconditionally, said, “This hole… might let us see downstairs… the fourth floor.”
Ge Qi was taken aback, leaning closer to the hole, shining the light, but he couldn’t see anything.
He lay down, bringing his eye close to the hole, disregarding the heat from the lighter’s flame near his eye, trying to see clearly.
But… he still couldn’t see anything. The lighter’s flame was too weak, and the hole was too small.
“Can’t see,” Ge Qi shook his head, saying, “It’s just a lighter, not a flashlight.”
Dong Xie gritted his teeth, saying, “Let me take a look… bring the lighter as close as possible. I think… this might be a clue to the Path to Survival.”
“I’ll do it…” Dong Ning volunteered, but Dong Xie shook his head without hesitation.
Dong Xie lay on the floor, bringing his eye close to the hole, closing his left eye, and aligning his right eye with the hole.
Pitch black.
At this moment, Ge Qi brought the lighter closer to Dong Xie’s eye, the flame nearly singeing his eyelashes!
With the light nearby, Dong Xie suddenly saw… on the other side of the hole, an eye staring intently back at him!
