Deadly Sweet - Chapter 6 - Yuanlang Egg Roll
Yan Heng hurriedly finished his meal, carrying a bag of food as he rushed back to the classroom. But before he could take his first step, his older brother, Yan Qi, intercepted him.
Yan Qi looked at the bag of snacks in Yan Heng’s hand with a complex expression. He pursed his lips, unable to understand what his little brother was up to. “I heard you’re sitting next to Jiang Yao?”
Gossip traveled fast, and it hadn’t even been a day before it reached the senior year section, far away from them. Yan Heng’s expression stiffened, and he reluctantly nodded.
“Did you buy these snacks for Jiang Yao?” Yan Qi’s face was full of disbelief. From what he knew, Jiang Yao’s combat power was so high that even alphas would avoid him. His own brother, who had straight alpha syndrome and believed omegas should be obedient and follow alphas’ orders, actually took a liking to Jiang Yao, who didn’t fit his aesthetic at all?
This was like a red rain from the sky!
Yan Heng rubbed his nose, and an image of those cat-like eyes, so sweet and trusting, flashed before him. “He’s not as scary as they say… and whatever needs to be taught can be done slowly.” Yan Heng believed Jiang Yao was a malleable talent. With proper guidance, he could soon become the obedient type he liked.
Yan Qi didn’t know how to respond to his love-struck brother. He placed a hand on Yan Heng’s shoulder and squeezed it. “I suggest you don’t.”
Yan Qi had seen Jiang Yao from afar a few times. He seemed to be the younger brother of Jiang Yuan, the academic genius in his class. Judging by Jiang Yuan’s indulgent attitude towards Jiang Yao, Jiang Yao could never become the type of omega Yan Heng liked.
“But no matter what, Jiang Yao is an omega. You should take care of him. But honestly, as your brother, I’m telling you, you two are not suitable.”
“I know what I’m doing,” Yan Heng said confidently. Yan Qi couldn’t stop him and had to let him go.
When Yan Heng returned to the classroom, he found that his little friend had woken up. Jiang Yao was propping his head up with soft hair framing his face, wearing headphones. He was lost in thought, with several opened medicine bottles on his desk.
“You took medicine without eating?” Yan Heng gritted his teeth, wanting to spank Jiang Yao.
“I had some candy.”
Jiang Yao continued playing on his phone, glancing at the desk before putting the medicine back into his nearly empty bag.
A large bag of snacks suddenly appeared on the desk. Jiang Yao’s green eyes, filled with curiosity, looked at Yan Heng, who had been acting strangely since the morning.
“What does this mean?”
Jiang Yao’s cold gaze met Yan Heng’s reddening ears, his eyebrows furrowing.
“Concern for my little friend and desk mate.”
“Not needed, thanks.” This response was even more hurtful than the previous question. Jiang Yao remained unmoved, focusing back on his screen.
Yan Heng didn’t know what to say. He felt genuinely wronged, staring at Jiang Yao. He hadn’t done anything wrong, so why was Jiang Yao so prickly?
“Why? We’re desk mates. We should get along, right?”
Jiang Yao’s expression changed, as if he had seen something particularly unpleasant. His voice was gritted, “Not needed.” His slender fingers tapped rapidly on the screen.
As Yan Heng was struggling to get Jiang Yao to eat something, Xie Chen appeared out of nowhere. Well, not exactly nowhere; he walked in openly, but neither of them noticed due to their preoccupation.
“Yao, see if there’s anything you want to eat?” Xie Chen had brought back a lot of food, hoping to get Jiang Yao to eat something.
Jiang Yao calmed down, his fingers casually scrolling through the dishes before stopping at the layered coconut jelly.
“I’ll just have this. Take the rest away.”
“Eat some rice and vegetables. This is just a dessert,” Xie Chen insisted, trying to get Jiang Yao to pick a few more dishes.
“Don’t want to…” Jiang Yao’s green eyes drooped, looking pitifully at Xie Chen. His delicate features scrunched up, looking like a sweet little bun.
Xie Chen was helpless. He had no choice but to give in to Jiang Yao’s expert-level pouting.
“Come on, it’s not good for your health.”
Xie Chen picked out a few dishes that Jiang Yao usually liked, opened the boxes, and the aroma filled the air. But Jiang Yao remained uninterested, looking at the dishes with disinterest.
“Is my second brother really not planning to see me?”
There was a hint of gritted teeth in his voice, and Jiang Yao’s expression turned cold, his cat-like eyes narrowing dangerously.
“Yao…” Xie Chen didn’t know how to deal with the childish cold war between the brothers. Jiang Yao’s glare made him quickly gesture to zip his lips.
Yan Heng didn’t understand the cryptic conversation between the two, and his face darkened. He shoved the snacks he brought into Jiang Yao’s desk, his narrow eyes glaring at Xie Chen with a murderous look.
“Little friend, hurry up and eat.”
Now was not the time for tantrums; his little friend hadn’t eaten yet.
Jiang Yao coldly stared at Yan Heng, as if trying to figure out his intentions. After a moment, he finally took a bite of the food.
He ate quietly, his expression neutral. After a few bites, he put down his chopsticks.
“Xie Chen, how much was all this? I’ll transfer it to you later.” Jiang Yao felt a bit guilty about eating for free since Xie Chen had bought so much.
“We don’t need to count a meal, do we?”
“Friends are friends, but we should be clear about money.”
Xie Chen sighed, knowing he couldn’t argue with Jiang Yao’s logic. “Just give me one hundred and forty.”
Eight dishes, several desserts, and from the south of the city restaurant. One hundred and forty wouldn’t even cover the tea fee.
Jiang Yao knew this, so he added a zero. Xie Chen looked at the one thousand four hundred transferred to him and couldn’t help but laugh. He reached out and pinched Jiang Yao’s not-so-chubby cheek.
“Did you take your medicine?”
“Took it earlier.” Jiang Yao checked the time on his phone and smiled at Xie Chen. “It’s almost time for class. You should head back.”
There was still half an hour before class, but since Jiang Yao said so, Xie Chen reluctantly left, feeling Yan Heng’s murderous gaze on his back.
“Next time, I’ll get you lunch, okay?” Yan Heng suggested, looking at the finally departed Xie Chen. His eyes blinked pitifully at Jiang Yao, like a large dog seeking affection.
That sweet scent again. Yan Heng’s eyes darkened, his fingers lightly brushing Jiang Yao’s neck. He almost touched the gland, a move that was borderline inappropriate.
Jiang Yao grabbed something nearby and swatted Yan Heng’s hand away, his gaze filled with annoyance rather than anger.
“Academic Genius Yan, you don’t want to end up in the police station, do you?”
