Deadly Sweet - Chapter 5 - A Full Cup of Grapefruit
The classroom was packed, with the only empty seat in the back row. Jiang Yao, with half-closed eyes and an indifferent expression, walked over to the seat next to Yan Heng without even glancing at him and immediately lay down on the desk.
Yan Heng had initially wanted to ask if the little friend remembered him, but seeing Jiang Yao’s clear disinterest in interacting, he decided to keep quiet.
The little friend seemed particularly irritable today, just as he had been this morning.
The teacher on the podium wiped the cold sweat from her forehead, unsure whether to feel relieved or distressed. Relieved that Jiang Yao was in her class, distressed that Jiang Yao was seated next to her most promising student, Yan Heng.
Regardless of her mixed feelings, she couldn’t show any of it. She drew on her years of teaching experience and wrote a few elegant characters on the blackboard.
“For this class, we won’t start the lesson yet. Let’s introduce ourselves so the new students can get to know you.”
Most of the students at this school were well-behaved. One by one, they went up with youthful, energetic faces; the more outgoing ones gave longer introductions, while the quieter ones said just a few words.
The process went quickly, and soon it was just Jiang Yao, who was still lying on his desk as if he had fallen asleep. The teacher stared at him with a headache, her lips pressed together as if she had given up hope.
Yan Heng nudged Jiang Yao, his voice as smooth as a cello’s low notes, “Little friend, it’s time for your introduction.”
Jiang Yao wasn’t deeply asleep and was immediately awakened by Yan Heng’s nudge. His green eyes narrowed slightly, reflecting the world around him, and his thin lips pressed together as if he was contemplating something.
With straight, long legs, Jiang Yao lazily walked to the podium, his slender fingers holding a piece of white chalk, a pleasing sight to behold.
With sharp strokes, he wrote “Jiang Yao” on the blackboard, then turned around, raising an eyebrow. His green eyes scrutinized the audience, and finally, a cold smile tugged at his lips.
“Jiang Yao.”
His voice was clear, the kind many people liked in a young man. But the students present were quite fearful, staring at the boy on the podium with a half-smile.
Yan Heng felt very conflicted. He watched the little friend who had just said his name and then walked back down, unsure what to think.
If it had been before, he would have looked down on Jiang Yao, thinking this omega didn’t act like one at all. But that night, he had seen a side of Jiang Yao that made his heart race-so pure, so sweet, like a soft marshmallow.
Sweet enough to fill his heart, making it feel like it was overflowing with syrup, sweet enough to make his bones melt.
Jiang Yao sat back down under Yan Heng’s ambiguous and somewhat intense gaze, his expression unchanged.
The smile on his lips disappeared, and his eyes half-closed, his green pupils reflecting the wooden desk.
The two spent the morning peacefully. Mainly because Jiang Yao slept through the entire morning like a pig, leaving Yan Heng’s prepared speeches stuck in his throat.
The little friend had no intention or desire to interact with him, so what could he do?
Most of the students packed up and headed to the cafeteria for lunch, and Yan Heng was no exception. When he finished packing and was about to leave, he noticed Jiang Yao still lying on the desk, unmoving.
His beautiful eyes drooped, and his soft black hair hung over his eyes, making him look particularly well-behaved.
Yan Heng had mentally prepared himself not to bother with Jiang Yao, but seeing this obedient appearance struck a chord in his sensitive heart. He could only sigh and reach out to gently ruffle Jiang Yao’s hair.
As soon as his hand touched him, Jiang Yao’s eyes widened in alarm, looking like a kitten with its fur bristling.
“Let go.” His voice was cold, but Yan Heng still heard the threat. It was as if he was saying that if he didn’t let go, he would chop him up.
Reluctantly, Yan Heng withdrew his hand, pretending to examine his palm, recalling the touch.
“Little friend, it’s time for lunch.” He sat on the desk, his long eyes filled with a smile, like dazzling starlight directly hitting Jiang Yao’s quiet pupils.
The brightness made Jiang Yao turn his head, avoiding eye contact.
“None of your business.”
His attitude was icy, and Yan Heng almost felt hurt by Jiang Yao’s sharpness. Still smiling as if nothing had happened, he didn’t know what to say.
The first time he saw Jiang Yao, his heart was filled with an unprecedented joy; it was like a person wandering in the darkness suddenly stepping into the light, a joy so immense it almost overwhelmed him.
Love at first sight was a mysterious concept. Yan Heng never believed he would fall into the trap of such an elusive idea, but the moment he saw Jiang Yao, all his rationality and principles vanished at the singularity, like a newborn universe, revolving entirely around Jiang Yao.
So even if he had previously disliked Jiang Yao for not acting like an omega, he was now willing to lower himself to please Jiang Yao, just to bring him into his little world.
Many things and principles could be taught slowly later, but if this person was taken away… then there would be nothing left.
“Skipping meals is bad for your stomach, and as an omega, irregular eating and sleeping habits can seriously harm your health. Be good.” Yan Heng lowered his voice, gently coaxing the stubborn little friend, his broad hand softly patting Jiang Yao’s back.
Jiang Yao’s muscles tensed, his lips pressed together, his eyes sharp as he scrutinized Yan Heng, unsure of his intentions. His mouth moved slightly, “None of your business.”
The two were at an impasse, and everyone else had long since slipped away. No one dared to intervene between two big shots, one who could crush you with grades and the other with brute force.
Xie Chen arrived with a group of followers, only to see Jiang Yao and Yan Heng in a standoff. Alarmed, he quickly ran to Jiang Yao’s side, glaring at Yan Heng with defiance, his fingers cracking.
Jiang Yao shifted his gaze, frowning at the group Xie Chen had brought, his throat moving slightly, “Xie Chen, why did you bring so many people?” His forehead faintly showed a black cross, as if ready to give Xie Chen a beating if he didn’t answer well.
“It’s the first day of school.”
“Yeah.”
“I wanted to treat them to a meal. Yao, are you coming?”
Xie Chen respectfully asked for Jiang Yao’s opinion, while the alphas behind him stared at Jiang Yao’s slender figure and delicate features with dazed eyes.
“No.”
“I’ll bring you something back?”
“Whatever.” Jiang Yao’s indifference was evident, but Xie Chen seemed used to it, reaching out to ruffle Jiang Yao’s hair under his death glare before letting go with a laugh.
Yan Heng watched their interaction with a complex expression, silently observing as Xie Chen led the group away, feeling a surge of emotion. Finally, he couldn’t resist reaching out to touch the spot where Xie Chen had just touched, his eyes reddening.
“Little friend, how about you come with me to eat a little? Otherwise, an empty stomach will be very uncomfortable.” He tried to persuade gently, but Jiang Yao ignored him and closed his eyes again.
