Deadly Sweet - Chapter 4 - Ginger-Scallion Chicken
The moment Jiang Yao was dragged out of the bar by his second brother, Jiang Yuan, he felt utterly hopeless.
Who on earth ratted me out? He sneaked a glance at Jiang Yuan’s twisted, furious expression and knew he probably wouldn’t escape a beating this time.
Jiang Yuan’s hair was practically standing on end as he glared at Jiang Yao, who remained calm and even seemed to embrace the situation with a serene acceptance. Jiang Yuan’s already burning anger flared even hotter, and he felt an overwhelming urge to beat the living daylights out of this little rascal!
“Don’t you think you should explain why you were in a bar? Hmm?”
Jiang Yao blinked his clear green eyes, looking utterly innocent. “I went to eat dessert. Do you believe me?”
“Couldn’t you come up with a better excuse? Going to a bar for dessert-are you crazy, or do you think I’m an idiot?”
Jiang Yuan glared at Jiang Yao, who was acting especially obedient in front of him. He had no idea what to do with this younger brother of his! He couldn’t hit him or scold him too harshly. Whenever he tried to be stern, Jiang Yao’s eyes would redden, and Jiang Yuan’s heart would ache.
But Jiang Yao was only obedient at home. Outside, he was a little devil, always causing trouble and never staying out of it.
Jiang Yao knew Jiang Yuan wouldn’t believe he went to the bar for dessert. Even he would think someone saying that was an idiot if he hadn’t tried it himself. But still, it hurt a little that his brother didn’t believe him. It was enough to shatter his fragile heart into a hundred pieces.
“I really was eating dessert! Their sweet steamed cheese custard is quite good.”
Jiang Yao’s eyes reddened slightly, looking like he had been terribly wronged. His voice was soft, carrying the tone of a child who had been unfairly scolded. His slender fingers unconsciously clutched the hem of his shirt, and his green cat-like eyes reflected the cool wooden floor.
Jiang Yuan’s expression stiffened. He was about to start yelling when he accidentally caught sight of Jiang Yao’s teary eyes. Jiang Yao stood there obediently, his eyes red as if he were about to cry.
Jiang Yuan was so startled by Jiang Yao’s appearance that he panicked. He quickly grabbed Jiang Yao’s shoulders and lowered his voice to comfort the teary-eyed child.
“Don’t cry, I haven’t even scolded you yet.”
“I really went to eat dessert!” Jiang Yao’s voice was soft, almost on the verge of tears.
Jiang Yao stared earnestly at Jiang Yuan, who was trying to maintain his composure. He felt incredibly wronged. His delicate nose twitched, and his eyebrows furrowed as his lips pressed into a thin line, looking like he was about to burst into tears.
“Alright, alright, you went to eat dessert,” Jiang Yuan sighed, feeling utterly defeated by his younger brother. His long fingers gently smoothed out Jiang Yao’s furrowed brow. His narrow eyes gazed at the innocent and pitiful Jiang Yao, and he let out a long sigh.
His fingers moved to Jiang Yao’s pale face, wiping away the tears that hadn’t yet fallen. “Stop crying. School is starting soon, so stay home and behave.”
It was a roundabout way of saying he was grounded, but Jiang Yao didn’t dare cause any more trouble. Though he still felt a bit resentful, Jiang Yao was generally easygoing when it came to his family.
He obediently returned to his room and lay down on his cloud-like bed. His round cat-like eyes stared blankly at the silver-tinted walls. His lips pressed together as he recalled the voice of the person he had accidentally bumped into today.
It was a very pleasant voice, one he liked very much… but it was a shame that person seemed to have a bit of straight alpha syndrome. That was truly unfortunate.
Time flew by, and before Jiang Yao knew it, it was time to go back to school.
The sun was shining brightly that day, making it hard to keep one’s eyes open. The grass bowed its head under the radiant sunlight, and the lush green leaves provided shade for the people below.
Jiang Yao pouted as he followed the driver like a wilted chick.
The driver, tasked with taking care of the young master, squeezed through the crowd, his small eyes scanning the various white papers for Jiang Yao’s name.
Before he could find it, he was distracted by the exclamations around him.
“Wow, those two school bosses are finally separated!”
“No way… Xie Chen is in my class… I feel like this year is going to be tough…”
“Actually, Xie Chen is alright to hang out with. But have you ever seen Jiang Yao hang out with anyone other than Xie Chen? He fights so fiercely. Damn, he’s an omega, but he’s fiercer than me, an alpha.”
“Don’t even mention it. Neither of them is easy to get along with… By the way, which class is Jiang Yao in?”
“Class… Class Three…”
“What? Dude, are you in the same class as Jiang Yao?”
“No, but look at who else is in Class Three!”
At the bottom of the A4 paper were the names Jiang Yao and Yan Heng. Many of their future classmates looked pale, wondering what kind of divine combination this was.
Even the most studious boys and girls at S High School had heard of Jiang Yao and Yan Heng.
One was an omega known for being fiercer than most alphas, and the other was an academic genius who always topped the exams.
The driver, having found the information, exited the crowd and turned to see the young master sitting on his suitcase, looking exasperated. “Young master, you’re in Class Three.”
“Oh.”
Jiang Yao seemed indifferent to the news. His round eyes turned, lost in some deep philosophical thought.
“Uncle Wang, do I really have to stay in the dormitory?” His eyebrows furrowed, and his thin face scrunched up like a sweet bun.
Yan Heng, carrying a bag, spotted the little friend he had accidentally bumped into earlier. The little friend seemed unhappy, with half-lidded eyes looking pitiful and aggrieved.
He was about to approach and ask what was wrong when he saw the little friend’s uncle say a few words, and the little friend reluctantly followed him out of the crowd.
Maybe that was his dad? Yan Heng’s imagination ran wild.
The dormitory wasn’t far from the teaching building. Although Jiang Yao had to stay in the dormitory, he had a single room. Jiang Yuan couldn’t bear to let his brother suffer, so the room was furnished just like home.
Jiang Yao opened the dormitory door and sat on the sofa like a lord. His green cat-like eyes surveyed the small room where he would spend the next few months, his expression unreadable.
Uncle Wang wiped his sweat and quickly set up everything under Jiang Yao’s cold gaze before hurriedly leaving. Jiang Yao watched Uncle Wang’s retreating figure and snorted.
With the dormitory set up, it was time to report to class. Jiang Yao lay lazily on the bed, unwilling to move. If he was late, so be it. The teacher couldn’t do anything to him anyway.
The Simmons mattress cradled the boy’s body, his pale skin exuding vitality. His green eyes half-opened, lazily mocking the world.
When the class bell rang, Jiang Yao reluctantly got up, grabbed a candy jar prepared by Jiang Yuan, and popped a lollipop into his mouth. He strolled out of the dormitory, enjoying the attention from passersby.
He sauntered to the classroom door, where the students inside held their breath, waiting for the big shot’s arrival. Some of the more timid ones even had tears in their eyes, fearing they might get beaten up if he was in a bad mood.
Jiang Yao’s fingers lightly tapped on the iron gate painted a different color.
His expression was cold, a far cry from the smiling, playful demeanor he had shown earlier.
The class teacher, with a headache, looked at Jiang Yao. She pursed her lips and finally told the little tyrant to come in first. “Come in and find a seat.”
