Deadly Sweet - Chapter 10 - Red Bean & Barley Tea
Jiang Yao’s grades had become a mystery, floating in the minds of everyone. If Jiang Yao heard this question in his sleep, he would definitely tell them seriously that those were indeed his real grades.
As for why? That’s a good question. Maybe it’s due to some inexplicable curse.
Unfortunately, Jiang Yao didn’t have the ability to read minds. During evening self-study, he slept deeper than a pig. Yan Heng was quite impressed by this. After all, except for meal times, Jiang Yao hadn’t been awake for more than half an hour all day.
Isn’t that impressive? Definitely impressive, no wonder he’s the omega Yan Heng has his eyes on.
Jiang Yao had no idea what they were thinking and couldn’t possibly know. When he woke up, everyone had already left, and only his desk mate, who almost confessed to him today, remained.
“Finally awake, little friend?” Yan Heng’s fingertip brushed against the corner of Jiang Yao’s eye. The deep blue sky was already adorned with twinkling stars, shimmering near and far.
Jiang Yao was slightly stunned but didn’t brush away Yan Heng’s hand. His emerald green eyes still held a sleepy confusion, looking like a little rabbit sending itself into the tiger’s mouth, unaware of the danger posed by the tiger that could devour him whole.
His lazy eyes glanced at the clock at the front of the classroom, and his thin lips pressed together before revealing a smile devoid of emotion. “Why haven’t you gone home yet?”
“I live in the dormitory. Little friend, do you live in the dormitory too?” Although Yan Heng phrased it as a question, his tone was quite certain. He leaned closer to Jiang Yao’s neck, inhaling the sweet scent.
He really looked forward to the day when his scent would blend with Jiang Yao’s, creating a harmonious mix.
While Yan Heng’s mind was running wild, he maintained a calm exterior. Jiang Yao was startled by the sudden closeness but soon forgot to tell him to back off.
“Dormitory.” The bell signaling the end of senior year classes rang. Jiang Yao kicked his chair back, slung his backpack over one shoulder, and walked straight out, seemingly forgetting about Yan Heng in the classroom.
Yan Heng quickly grabbed his backpack and chased after him, smiling as he walked beside Jiang Yao. He originally wanted to go and make an impression on Jiang Yao’s older brother, but was intercepted halfway.
Xie Chen appeared out of nowhere, with blood on his face. Jiang Yao paused, his gaze coldly sweeping over the pale but smiling Xie Chen. His slender fingers shielded his eyes, and his lips curled into a sneer.
“Who?” Jiang Yao’s voice was light, his expression indifferent, but Yan Heng could sense the heavy killing intent.
Xie Chen wiped the blood off his face and smiled at Jiang Yao. Under the bright moonlight, his face looked even paler. “It’s nothing, the guy is already dead.” He said cheerfully, unusually not approaching Jiang Yao, his eyes narrowing as he scrutinized Yan Heng standing beside Jiang Yao.
“…Injured?” Jiang Yao didn’t want to force him to reveal anything, so he frowned, his eyes swirling like boiling water, ready to scald anyone who touched it.
Xie Chen didn’t expect Jiang Yao to have such good vision at night, but he didn’t want Jiang Yao to worry. He cheerfully changed the subject, his eyes coldly fixed on Yan Heng, who seemed to disdain him. What happened between them in just one day?
“Aren’t you going to pick up your brother? Go ahead, I’ll head back to the dormitory myself.” With that, Xie Chen was about to leave, but his slender fingers were grabbed by Jiang Yao.
Looking up, he met Jiang Yao’s helpless gaze. Jiang Yao grabbed Xie Chen with one hand and quickly sent a message to Jiang Yuan with the other, then dragged Xie Chen away before he could react.
Yan Heng was left standing alone, frowning as he watched their departing figures. Should he chase after them? But Jiang Yao hadn’t invited him, right?
With that thought, despite his reluctance, Yan Heng headed towards the senior year building. He leaned against the stairwell, his sharp features attracting the attention of many girls.
Yan Qi raised an eyebrow in surprise, first greeting Jiang Yuan before walking over to Yan Heng, his tone amused. “So, our academic genius got rejected by his beloved omega again?”
Worse than rejection, okay? Almost got ignored in person. Yan Heng’s face darkened, his temper flaring, his hands itching.
Jiang Yuan’s head tilted slightly, his dark eyes inscrutable before settling into calmness. His gaze flickered for a moment, and when Yan Heng looked up, Jiang Yuan had already melted into the crowd and left the building.
Jiang Yao dragged Xie Chen back to the dormitory and threw him onto the sofa, leaving behind a cold silhouette.
Xie Chen winced in pain, barely having time to escape before Jiang Yao emerged from the room with a medical kit.
Jiang Yao skillfully took out the necessary items, his expression cold as he looked at the stubborn Xie Chen, his thin lips moving softly like spring water nourishing the parched earth.
“Do you want to do it yourself or should I help you?” His words were calm, but there was a hint of gritted teeth. Xie Chen didn’t dare challenge Jiang Yao’s patience any further and quickly took the items, lifting his outer coat.
“Knife wound?”
The wound wasn’t deep, just looked scary. Jiang Yao’s gaze remained indifferent as he examined the exposed flesh, his mind pondering something.
It was clearly a cut from a sharp object. Even if Xie Chen wanted to deny it, he wouldn’t dare treat Jiang Yao like a fool.
“…Yeah. Don’t worry, the other guy is worse off than me.” Xie Chen was skilled, yet he got injured… even in a one-against-many fight…
Jiang Yao shifted his gaze, letting out a cold “oh” before heading to the bathroom. The warm water reflected his eyes, cold as winter. He threw a white towel into the water without hesitation.
His slender fingers carried a basin of water and placed it in front of Xie Chen. His winter-like eyes finally softened a bit, as he sighed inwardly with helplessness. “Wipe yourself. If you don’t want me to interfere, I won’t. But stop fighting.”
Even if you fight, don’t get yourself injured. Remember, knives and swords have no eyes; one day you might really fall victim to them.
Xie Chen’s smile stiffened slightly, his long eyes moistening as he forced a smile. “I’ll be careful.” Maybe the water was too hot, making him feel like crying.
Jiang Yao didn’t force Xie Chen to make any promises. His long legs lazily crossed as he casually scrolled through his phone until Xie Chen finished.
“Want something to eat?”
“What do you have?”
“Probably just cookies and bread. If you want something else, I can order takeout for you?” Jiang Yao waved his phone in front of Xie Chen, showing the usual late-night snack spots they frequented.
