Daddy, Mommy Ran Away - Chapter 198 - Not a Younger Brother
“Mommy, it’s pouring rain!” Xiaobei exclaimed, rushing to the window to watch the raindrops trickling down the glass.
Leng Qiuling, sitting on the sofa, felt her heart tighten as she glanced towards the door. The rain kept pouring relentlessly.
“Uncle didn’t bring an umbrella, what should we do?” Xuanhan joined in, calling out as he ran over.
“Uncle’s car broke down halfway up the hill, now he’s going to get soaked!” Xiaobao chimed in.
“Getting drenched like that could lead to a cold and fever,” Xiaobei frowned. “Last time, Daddy got caught in the rain and ended up with a fever, even coughed up blood. It was so pitiful.”
The four adults sitting on the sofa listened to the children’s chatter, each with a different expression, yet none spoke up.
Leng Haoyin felt embarrassed; his last bout of coughing blood wasn’t due to the rain. Damn it, if he had known it would ruin his heroic image in the kids’ eyes, he would have sworn off drinking.
An Ruoxi discreetly observed Qiuling. Having heard about her and Zhan Tianxiang’s story from Moli, she hoped to bring them together. Yet, seeing Leng Qiuling’s indifferent expression, her face was calm and composed.
But she only focused on her face, missing the fact that Qiuling’s hands were tightly clutching the luxurious blanket on the sofa.
His car is stuck halfway up the hill… Yes… It was brother who drove him here…
“Xi’er, take the kids for a bath,” Leng Haoyin couldn’t stand the eerie silence any longer. He stood up and gave An Ruoxi a meaningful look before turning to Leng Chuyan, “Dad, I need to talk to you, let’s go to the study.”
“Alright,” Leng Chuyan replied, casting a glance at Qiuling and sighing before heading upstairs.
An Ruoxi then ushered the children upstairs for their bath.
The hall was suddenly left with just Leng Qiuling, her heart pounding with restless unease.
In the study.
Leng Haoyin felt a heavy weight in his chest, unsure how to begin. Could Ouyang Pei’s words be true? Was Zuo Junchen really his younger brother?
This relationship was something he desperately didn’t want to believe, yet faced with reality, he had no choice but to confront it.
Leng Chuyan stood by the desk, lighting a cigarette. He glanced up at him and said, “Stop beating around the bush. That’s not your style. If you’ve got something to say, just say it.”
“Dad,” Leng Haoyin gritted his teeth and asked, “Zuo Junchen, the newly appointed president of Zuo Corporation-do you remember him?”
“What’s the matter?” Leng Chuyan frowned, his expression tinged with confusion and curiosity. He knew of the young man but had never interacted with him.
“He’s my father-in-law’s nephew, the biological son of Ouyang Pei’s younger sister, Ouyang Yifeng. My father-in-law told me that he’s your son.”
“What!” At those words, Leng Chuyan’s face darkened instantly, his expression shocked. He crushed the cigarette in his hand with force. “Ouyang Pei said Zuo Junchen is my son?”
His reaction puzzled Leng Haoyin. Could it really not be true? He said in a low voice, “That’s what my father-in-law told me. Isn’t it just a matter of doing a DNA test to confirm?”
“Ridiculous! How dare he throw such a baseless accusation at me!” Leng Chuyan’s shock quickly turned into rage. He slammed his fist onto the desk, his teeth clenched tightly. “That old scoundrel! Just because he’s a philanderer, he thinks I’m the same!”
Leng Haoyin was stunned by his father’s furious punch and fiery expression. A hint of relief crept onto his face. “Dad, are you saying Zuo Junchen isn’t your son?”
“I’ve never even touched a single finger of Ouyang Yifeng’s! Where would a son come from?” Leng Chuyan huffed angrily. “In my entire life, I’ve only ever had your mother. How could I possibly get involved with another woman?”
Years ago, Ouyang Yifeng had schemed to drug him, but he had resisted his desires, staying clear-headed enough to push her away. He’d rather spend a day and night in freezing cold water and take sedatives than lay a hand on another woman. And now, someone dared to tarnish his love with such an outrageous claim.
“How could this happen?” Leng Haoyin, though overjoyed, was still baffled. His father-in-law had no reason to lie to him. If Zuo Junchen wasn’t his father’s son, then why did he harbor such hatred for the Leng Family?
Before he could figure it out, he saw Leng Chuyan angrily pull a handgun from the drawer and shove it into his pocket. “That damned Ouyang Pei! How dare he insult my love! I’m going to settle this with him!”
“Dad, Dad, calm down!” Leng Haoyin quickly grabbed hold of him. “My father-in-law must have made a mistake. That’s why he said it. He didn’t do it on purpose. Please don’t act rashly!”
“He absolutely did it on purpose! He’s jealous that I have a grandson and he doesn’t, so he’s spreading lies!”
“Dad, that’s really not the case. Xi’er and I are about to get engaged. Don’t mess things up for me. If I can’t get married, then you really won’t have a grandson.” Holding back his laughter, Leng Haoyin threatened him, finding his father’s rare display of childishness both amusing and endearing.
Still, if Zuo Junchen wasn’t his father’s son, why was he so determined to take revenge on the Leng Corporation? What was his ultimate goal? No matter what, Leng Haoyin wouldn’t let him succeed.
After hearing from his father that Zuo Junchen wasn’t his son, Leng Haoyin’s mood soared. Without realizing it, he began humming a tune as he returned to his room.
What greeted him was a heartwarming scene.
Xiaobei had already finished her bath. She sat on the edge of the bed in her pajamas, swinging her little legs and humming a cheerful melody.
