Daddy, Mommy Ran Away - Chapter 185 - Younger Brother
“Congratulations, Father-in-law, finally the clouds have parted and the moon is visible,” Leng Haoyin sincerely offered his blessings.
“Haha!” Ouyang Pei was overjoyed, unable to contain his smile as he patted Leng Haoyin’s shoulder. “Indeed, my precious daughter is the kindest. She will surely forgive me and recognize me as her Dad. I’m so happy, tomorrow those three little ones will call me grandfather!”
Leng Haoyin watched Ouyang Pei amuse himself, rolling his eyes helplessly at his childishness. “Alright, if they are willing to call you that, I have no objections. Has Xi’er gone to bed? I’ll go check on her.”
“Son-in-law, wait a moment, come to my study. I have something to discuss with you,” Ouyang Pei suddenly became serious.
With a puzzled glance, Leng Haoyin nodded.
In the study.
Ouyang Pei led Leng Haoyin to the study, seated himself behind the Executive Chair, and gestured for him to sit down as well.
“Father-in-law, what do you want to talk about?”
“Since you are my son-in-law and I am your father-in-law, we are the closest family, and there should be no secrets between us. The situation with Zuo Corporation today, it was all part of your plan, wasn’t it?” Ouyang Pei’s enigmatic expression revealed nothing of his true thoughts.
Leng Haoyin’s eyes sharpened instantly, and he countered, “How would you like me to answer that?”
“Haha!” Ouyang Pei laughed, his wise old eyes twinkling with amusement as he patted Leng Haoyin’s shoulder. “Indeed, my precious daughter’s judgment was spot on. Compared to Chen Er, you are a step ahead.”
“Chen Er?” Leng Haoyin furrowed his brow, catching the crucial information in Ouyang Pei’s words.
“Yes, actually Zuo Junchen is my nephew, Ruoxi’s older male cousin. In terms of seniority, you should call him older male cousin.”
Leng Haoyin was momentarily stunned, processing the news as his brow furrowed further. “Father-in-law, what are you trying to say?”
“Ah, actually I don’t intend to interfere in your affairs. It’s just that Chen Er has a knot in his heart that he can’t untie. If he has indeed done wrong, I hope for Xi’er’s sake, you won’t hold it against him too much.”
“Father-in-law, do you know something?” Leng Haoyin raised an eyebrow, his tone firm. “He’s not targeting me, but the Leng Family, isn’t he?”
Ouyang Pei sighed deeply, revealing a shocking piece of news: “He… is your younger brother.”
The door was gently pushed open.
“Wife, why aren’t you asleep yet?” Leng Haoyin glanced at the crystal clock on the wall; it was already midnight.
“You’re back.” An Ruoxi stepped forward, thoughtfully helping him remove his coat and tie. “I’ve prepared your robe. Go take a hot shower first.”
“Alright.” He gave her a tender look, feeling warmth in his heart.
After he finished his shower, An Ruoxi was tidying up her sketches.
“What’s wrong?” An Ruoxi noticed something amiss, reaching out to touch his brow. “Why do you look so down? Is it work-related or Xiaoqing’s condition?”
“Neither.” He scooped An Ruoxi up from the chair, laying her gently on the soft bed and leaned over her.
He didn’t answer immediately, but tightened his grip around her waist, sighing deeply after a long pause. “Father-in-law just told me something. Zuo Junchen is your older male cousin.”
“What? Really? No wonder I felt he was as close as a brother. Xiaobao and Xiaobei also like him a lot. So, he really is my brother!” An Ruoxi’s face showed surprise mixed with joy.
“Zuo Junchen has another identity.”
“What identity?”
His handsome face turned serious, his voice filled with emotion. “Zuo Junchen is my half-brother.”
“What-” An Ruoxi was stunned. “How can this be?”
“Father-in-law told me. It turns out that the one who schemed against my dad back then was Zuo Junchen’s mother.”
An Ruoxi was momentarily speechless, taking a while to process before murmuring, “How could this happen? It’s so complicated. If that’s the case, then senior’s return this time…”
“Exactly, he came back with a purpose-to seek revenge against the Leng Family.” Leng Haoyin sighed. “What should I do?”
“You have moments when you don’t know what to do?” An Ruoxi raised an eyebrow, looking at him with interest.
“This matter is really my dad’s issue. I plan to tell him tomorrow and see what he thinks.”
“Yes, that’s necessary. After all, if Brother Zuo really is his son, he has the right to know. Family ties are delicate; maybe your dad will acknowledge Brother Zuo.”
“Perhaps,” Leng Haoyin sighed, the light casting shadows on his face, revealing a mix of helplessness and reflection. “I never thought my father actually had another woman back then, which drove my mother away. I always thought it was a misunderstanding, but it turns out to be true…”
Suddenly feeling melancholic, he had always believed his father was the most devoted man in the world. Over the years, his father’s steadfast love moved him, but now a younger brother had appeared, overturning his previous beliefs. Is it the world that’s absurd, or was he just naive?
“The story of my competition with Zuo Junchen could be told for three days and three nights. Whatever I like, he seems to want to snatch it away. Five years ago, for reasons unknown, he suddenly went abroad to study. When he returned five years later, I felt that he was not simple. His behavior has surpassed that of ordinary young people who seek momentary pleasures and engage in life-and-death struggles. In business, he is also competing fiercely, especially in the way he looks at me. I can vaguely sense a hint of hatred from him, but I can’t figure out what he could possibly hate about me. So, I suspect that his hatred is not directed at me but at the Leng family. I have been keeping an eye on him, trying to draw out the person behind him. This time, since he came to seize the land in the Golden Triangle, I plan to lure the snake out of its hole. I believe it won’t be long before this matter is resolved.”
