Daddy, Mommy Ran Away - Chapter 170 - A Startling Discovery
In the president’s office on the eighty-ninth floor.
“Manager Chen, shouldn’t you offer me a reasonable explanation as to why the location of the pornographic video circulating online is at the Fantasy Seven-Star Hotel under your management?”
Pausing, Leng Haoyin tossed his pen aside, leaned back lazily in his chair, his gaze sharp yet his voice remained smooth and undisturbed, “And I hear the male lead is supposedly your younger brother?”
“I’m so sorry, Mr. President. It was an oversight on my part; that kid was foolish to cause such trouble, bringing damage to our company. I truly apologize.” On the other side of the video call, the General Manager bowed his head, his shoulders trembling slightly. Even through the LCD screen, his tone was neither warm nor harsh, but the president’s piercing gaze seemed to have the penetrating power of X-rays, instilling deep fear within him.
“An oversight? An oversight allowed you to let your younger brother indulge in hiring prostitutes in your own hotel and even get filmed? Such an oversight lets a younger brother commit such a significant blunder―I really must reevaluate your competence.” A mocking sneer slowly spread across his lips, somewhat chilling to behold…
“I’m sorry, I will take full responsibility for this incident.” Taking a deep breath, the General Manager adopted a righteous demeanor, “I… I will resign…”
“Good.” A responsible man ought to pay for his mistakes: “But this isn’t the outcome I wanted.”
“The Swiss division has already exceeded the annual goals by a significant percentage in the first half of the year, very good, not bad.” His deep voice betrayed no joy; he looked down, his long fingers occasionally marking the data displayed on the report before him. Then, Leng Haoyin’s indifferent gaze swept over to a man in a black suit on the video device―
“However, do you think I have the time to spend a fortune to train another General Manager?” He did not deny his timely measures had maximally salvaged the hotel’s reputation. Knowing one’s mistake and bravely facing the consequences is the way to go.
“Yes. Thank you, Mr. President.” The General Manager was momentarily stunned, then he understood, his eyes almost brimming with tears of relief.
Shen Jun lounged on the couch, legs crossed, with an unlit cigarette hanging from his lips, comfortably squinting at the man behind the Executive Chair.
Nearly half an hour into the meeting, Shen Jun, bored, swung his feet, leisurely admiring the man with an air of regal arrogance, his thin lips curling into a slight smile.
He couldn’t help but admire Haoyin’s leadership and decision-making skills; being the head of the conglomerate requires a good approach. Being too harsh on subordinates, even with great authority, won’t earn their genuine loyalty.
What is needed is to win over their hearts, making them willingly submit to you from within.
A shadow passed over, blocking the light above his head, a deep and resonant voice asked, “Have you seen enough?”
“Haoyin, if I were a woman, I’d definitely be crazy about you.” His slender, peach-blossom eyes rippled with layers, and his thin lips curled up teasingly.
“I wouldn’t mind if you went crazy over me now.” The last few words were almost gritted out, as he sat down on the sofa across from him.
“Please―” He scoffed, his lips curling in disdain, “I’m not interested in messing around with you.”
If he were to mess around, it’d have to be with a pretty boy, and he’d definitely be the one getting roughed up.
“Are you clinging to my office just to tell me this?” Leng Haoyin lifted an eyebrow coolly. “It seems you really have too much free time.”
“With you monopolizing everything in front of me, all I need to do is count my money leisurely behind your back,” Shen Jun said with a rogue smile. Suddenly curious, he leaned forward, hands bracing on the desk in front of Leng Haoyin: “Did you do something I don’t know about?”
Turning around, he gave Leng Haoyin a thumbs-up: “Impressive, killing without a trace. With this tactic, it won’t be long before Zuo Junchen really becomes penniless.”
Upon hearing this, Leng Haoyin finally looked up, his noble brows furrowing subtly, a hint of confusion flickering over his tightly pursed lips.
“What’s going on?” Leng Haoyin sensed something was amiss.
“You really don’t know? Damn, you’ve got a wife and lost your job.” Shen Jun slapped his thigh and turned on the financial news channel, his brow furrowing even more: “Look for yourself, isn’t the recent drop in Zuo Corporation’s stock prices a bit strange?”
“What’s even weirder is that Zuo Corporation suddenly halted their first phase investment in the Golden Triangle plot yesterday. The stock price plummeted even more severely after that,” Shen Jun pouted, his large hand stroking his chin: “All that lovely cash turned into bubbles.”
Just one look, and Leng Haoyin’s brow wrinkled as well, his fingers rhythmically tapping on the armrest of the sofa.
“What’s with that expression?” Shen Jun widened his eyes at him, then shook his head, his brow creased, murmuring to himself: “Could I be wrong? Who could it be then?”
He had come up because he felt something was off. He had just caught him in a video conference, otherwise, he would have thought he was too idle with nothing better to do.
A contemplative look spread over his face, his sharp gaze like a circling hawk, focused on the fluctuating data.
“It’s within expectations, but isn’t this happening a bit too fast?” A contemplative frown creased his brow, his hawk-like gaze intently fixed on the bouncing numbers: “Though initiating the plan can’t completely stop the stock price from falling, it’s still the most effective measure. Zuo Corporation wouldn’t give up unless…”
“He, help me check something.”
“What is it?” The phone carried Ye Hanhe’s usual cold tone.
“The abnormal drop in Zuo Corporation’s stock prices, the small shareholders have already started selling off their shares, help me find out who’s manipulating this behind the scenes.” His hawk-like eyes tightened slightly, a coldness slowly settling in the depths.
“Ten minutes.” He answered succinctly, and the call ended.
“Haoyin, do you suspect that all of this is being manipulated by someone?” Shen Jun puzzled, his thick brows knitting together, he also felt something was off but couldn’t pinpoint exactly what, his large hand gripping his chin, pondering: “But isn’t the drop in Zuo Corporation’s stock prices and the cancellation of the investment plan all part of our plan? Yet, something feels off. What is it that’s not right?”
Shen Jun had a sudden realization: “You suspect it’s Zuo Junchen, isn’t he trying to seize this opportunity to take control of the entire Zuo Corporation?”
