Daddy, Mommy Ran Away - Chapter 164 - The In-laws Meet Officially
“What on earth is going on?” An Ruoxi stood there, utterly dumbfounded.
“The two grandfathers are fighting over us,” Xiaobao explained succinctly.
Hearing this, An Ruoxi finally felt her heart settle down. She glanced at the two men arguing fiercely in the distance. Amidst her worry and anxiety, a warm feeling began to flow through her heart. It turned out that she and her children were loved so deeply by others.
Leng Haoyin cast a casual glance at the chaotic scene ahead and couldn’t help but curl his lips in exasperation.
“Daddy, hug me!” Xiaobei raised her tiny, soft hands, tugging insistently at him until he bent down to scoop her up. Leng Haoyin smiled warmly, crouched down, and lifted An Xiaobei into his arms, planting several playful kisses on her rosy cheeks before finally letting her go.
After setting Xiaobei down, Leng Haoyin turned toward the two unruly old men and shouted, “Dad! Father-in-law! Enough! If you keep this up, I’ll take the kids away!”
His words were like a bomb detonating in the middle of their heated argument. The two old men immediately fell silent, though their eyes continued to glare daggers at each other.
“The children were born to my daughter, so naturally, they should live with me,” Ouyang Pei declared, his anger vanishing the moment he saw An Ruoxi. His face lit up with joy. “Daughter, you’re back!”
Hearing this, An Ruoxi’s calm gaze wavered slightly, her heart stirred by a warm current. The words of rejection she had prepared got stuck in her throat. She nodded lightly and replied softly, “Yes.”
“Then don’t leave. Stay here with Dad. I’ll protect you and stand up for you. If anyone dares to bully you, I’ll make sure they regret it,” Ouyang Pei said, his excitement evident as if he had just won the world. He turned to the butler and shouted, “Quick! Everyone, come over and greet the young lady!”
A line of black-suited bodyguards and the household staff promptly approached An Ruoxi, bowing in unison and announcing loudly, “Young lady!”
An Ruoxi was so startled by the grand display that she froze in place. It wasn’t until Xiaobao called out to her that she snapped out of her daze. “Um…” She twisted her fingers nervously, her thoughts in disarray. Yet, when she saw the anticipation in Ouyang Pei’s eyes, she nodded slightly in agreement. His earlier words had touched the softest part of her heart, and a voice inside her whispered, “Dad.”
“Haha! Leng Chuyan, how about that? My daughter has decided to stay with me. Doesn’t that mean the kids should stay here too?” Ouyang Pei grinned so broadly it seemed his teeth might fall out. Although his daughter hadn’t yet called him “Dad,” her willingness to stay was already a victory. He was confident that hearing her call him “Dad” was just a matter of time.
Leng Chuyan’s anger had subsided somewhat, but hearing Ouyang Pei’s triumphant tone reignited his fury. He waved his hand dismissively and retorted, “What’s so great about that? Fine, keep them. I’ll take my grandson and have my son find another woman to have kids with. Everything we agreed on before is off the table. This marriage is canceled!”
“Father-” Leng Haoyin’s handsome face darkened instantly, his thin lips pressed into a displeased line.
But Leng Chuyan, consumed by rage, paid no heed and continued to drag Leng Haoyin away. “We won’t associate with a tyrant like him. Come on, I’ll arrange some blind dates for you.”
Hearing this, Ouyang Pei panicked. He wanted to be with his grandchildren, but his main goal had been to provoke Leng Chuyan. Now, realizing his actions might cause trouble for his daughter, he quickly grabbed Leng Haoyin to stop him from leaving. Reluctantly, he conceded, “Damn it, Leng Chuyan, don’t mess around. Haoyin and my daughter have feelings for each other. Don’t ruin their relationship and play matchmaker.”
“Alright, alright. It’s almost noon. Father-in-law, since both you and my dad are here, let’s consider this the official meeting of the in-laws,” Leng Haoyin said, glancing meaningfully at An Ruoxi. She was so kind-hearted that he knew it wouldn’t be long before she forgave Ouyang Pei. Leng Haoyin genuinely hoped she could reconcile with her father, so he was more than willing to act as a mediator.
Seeing Leng Chuyan’s face darken further, Leng Haoyin cleared his throat and coughed a few times. Ouyang Pei caught on and reluctantly addressed Leng Chuyan, “Since the in-laws are here, why don’t you stay for lunch?”
Ouyang Pei immediately followed up, speaking to the butler while looking at An Ruoxi. “Yes, yes, butler, prepare lunch-make it the best feast possible. Today, the whole family is here, so we should have a reunion meal. Haha! It’s worth celebrating, having so many family members all at once.”
“Hmph!” Leng Chuyan ignored him entirely, letting out a heavy snort.
“What? Are you afraid I’ll poison the food and kill you? Is that why you won’t stay for lunch?”
“Who said I wouldn’t stay?”
“Then eat and prove it. If you don’t, you’re a coward.”
“You’re the coward! If I were a coward, where would your son-in-law come from?”
…
“Grandpa is so childish,” An Xiaobao muttered, raising an eyebrow in disdain as he watched the two old men.
“I think Grandpa is adorable like this,” Xiaobei chimed in cheerfully.
“Move aside, you mangy dog!” Leng Chuyan snapped.
“How dare you call me a dog? Watch your foul mouth! You have no manners-acting like a scoundrel!”
“I’m a scoundrel? You’re the one who used to run a gang. I can’t believe someone as domineering as you has a daughter as outstanding as Ruoxi.”
“I can’t believe someone as petty as you has a son as exceptional as Haoyin.”
“Twenty years ago, I should’ve beaten you to a pulp.”
“You were the one who started it!”
“Hmph! How dare you bring that up? If it weren’t for that crazy woman from your family, I wouldn’t have been separated from my wife for seven years!”
“Damn it! You have no remorse for ruining her life.”
“She ruined my entire family!”
“That was decades ago. Why are you still bringing it up?”
“Enough!” Leng Haoyin broke free from the two men pulling him in opposite directions. His low growl instantly silenced them. “Ruoxi and I will proceed with our engagement as planned. The kids are already here-three of them. You can split your time with them. After we get married, we’ll have more kids for you to fuss over. What’s the point of fighting? I can’t understand parents like you. Most people want their families to live in harmony, but you seem determined to turn everything into chaos!”
“No way!” Both men shouted in unison.
“Come here,” Leng Haoyin beckoned to the three little ones. Whispering in their ears, they quickly understood and ran off to separate the two bickering old men.
“Let’s go inside, honey. It’s too sunny out here,” Leng Haoyin said, wrapping his arm around An Ruoxi’s waist and leading her indoors.
