- Chapter 6 - Is This Really the Dead Last of Class C?
“Make way! What are all of you crowding around here for?”
From the outskirts of the crowded group, a burly man nearly two meters tall, his body rippling with muscles, pushed through the throng.
The students he shoved aside were about to retort angrily, but they clammed up upon seeing his shiny, bald head.
Gao Liangxiong, the top student of Class E for three years and ranked sixth in the overall school standings.
“Wu Zhixing-! If you’re not here to challenge me to a fight, then what are you gathering around for?”
Gao Liangxiong squeezed his way to where Wu Zhixing and his group stood and bellowed at him.
Wu Zhixing rubbed his ears, his tone full of disdain:
“Keep it down… you stinking bear! Wait a moment, I’ll come find you later.”
He simply couldn’t find a suitable challenger within his class.
Although Fang Wen was decent with her footwork, she lacked the strength he possessed, making her hesitant in fights.
Gao Liangxiong was close to him in strength and had a similar fighting style; they usually sparred together.
“Wait for what? What exactly are you watching that’s so entertaining?”
“I’m watching my guy teach a bug a lesson.”
Wu Zhixing crossed his arms, his face expressionless, but his eyes gleamed with a dark, fierce intensity.
“That once dared to rank above me, that bug…”
“Who? Let me see!”
Gao Liangxiong rubbed his smooth forehead, now genuinely interested, and turned his attention to the center of the arena.
…
Wu Yong adjusted his neck with his right hand and tilted his chin up at Lin Xiao.
“Do you want to fight barehanded or with weapons?”
The weapons for free combat weren’t sharp, coated with a layer of plastic over the metal, but their weight was unaltered.
Lin Xiao tilted his head, smiling politely.
“Either is fine, you choose.”
“Let’s go barehanded then. With weapons…”
Wu Yong lowered his stance, a cruel smirk spreading across his face.
“I might accidentally kill you!”
Boom-!
Wu Yong charged forward like a cheetah, his speed exceeding 20 meters per second!
In the blink of an eye, his massive fist, carrying a terrifying force, reached Lin Xiao.
Wu Yong’s smile grew more sinister, as if he could already see Lin Xiao’s face getting smashed by his punch.
Lin Xiao calmly watched the approaching fist and slightly shifted his body.
Whoosh-!
The punch missed, grazing past Lin Xiao’s hair and hitting the air.
“…Huh?”
Wu Yong’s expression froze, disbelief evident in his eyes, quickly replaced by rage.
“Damn your luck!”
Another fierce uppercut whooshed towards him, but Lin Xiao slightly tilted his head back, the fist missing by less than 3 centimeters.
Oh-!
As Lin Xiao dodged yet another punch, the onlooking crowd burst into excitement.
Now this is getting interesting!
If he had gone down with one punch, what would have been the fun in that?
“How many times can you dodge, huh!?”
Wu Yong’s attacks came fast and furious, like a torrential downpour.
Straight punches, kicks, hooks, spinning triple kicks, elbow strikes, direct kicks!
The pace and ferocity of the attacks escalated rapidly.
It seemed the earlier moves were just a warm-up.
Yet, Lin Xiao remained serene, his facial expression unchanged.
An 800-kilogram punch, a 2-ton kick.
These terrifying blows, capable of killing fierce beasts, seemed like mere breezes to him.
And Lin Xiao, like a paper figure in the wind, dodged each attack by the narrowest margin, with minimal movement.
The battle in the arena continued.
At first, when Lin Xiao dodged the initial punches, the audience cheered and applauded. But as he evaded wave after wave of attacks, the onlookers began to notice something unusual.
The crowd grew quiet, whispering among themselves.
“…He’s pretty impressive!”
“Was his footwork always this sharp?”
“Is this the dead last from Class C you were talking about? You’re kidding me…”
“He’s way better than me!”
Gao Liangxiong, towering and broad-faced, rubbed his bald head. The expression of amusement slowly faded, replaced by a serious and cautious gaze.
“Hey… Wu Zhixing, is that the ‘bug’ you mentioned?”
Gao Liangxiong smirked, scoffing lightly.
“He’s got some moves, doesn’t he? I feel like Fang Wen from your class isn’t as nimble as him.”
“…”
Wu Zhixing didn’t respond to Gao Liangxiong’s question. His brows furrowed, and his face was as dark as a stormy sea. His cold eyes revealed a hint of confusion.
Meanwhile, Zhao Siya’s eyes were wide open, her mouth agape in disbelief. Her hands were clasped in front of her chest, resembling a startled hamster. Each time Lin Xiao dodged Wu Yong’s attacks, she excitedly clenched her fists and cheered, sometimes even stomping her feet in excitement.
“Zhao Siya…”
Turning around, Zhao Siya saw Fang Wen standing behind her. Fang Wen was over 175 cm tall, with a stylish side-swept fringe and striking features. Her legs were long, straight, and exuded strength.
“What’s up… Fang Wen?”
What surprised Zhao Siya was-
The second-ranked girl in their class, popular among the girls for her cool demeanor, now seemed a bit shy and embarrassed…?
“Has Lin Xiao undergone any special training?”
“Uh?”
Zhao Siya blinked, not expecting such a question.
“You’re the closest to Lin Xiao, so I thought I’d ask…”
It seemed prying into others’ privacy wasn’t quite her style. Fang Wen’s earlobes reddened slightly, and she awkwardly explained:
“Lin Xiao’s footwork is impressive, and I wanted to know if there’s any training method…”
“Is he better than you, Fang Wen?”
Zhao Siya could see Lin Xiao’s footwork was strong, but she hadn’t realized it was enough to surprise Fang Wen.
Fang Wen watched the calm figure in the arena and nodded affirmatively.
“He’s better than me.”
Zhao Siya’s mouth formed a perfect circle, as if seeing her childhood friend for the first time.
“But I haven’t seen him do any special training. Lin Xiao just told me his headaches have gone away…”
“Headaches?”
Fang Wen pondered for a moment, puzzled, and turned her gaze back to the arena.
…
“Oh-!”
“He dodged another combo!”
“Wu Yong’s stamina isn’t bad!”
“Isn’t this starting to look like he’s playing with a dog…?”
The crowd regained its liveliness, buzzing with discussions. But now, they weren’t talking about Wu Yong knocking out his opponent with a few punches. Instead, they were wondering when Wu Yong would actually land a hit on Lin Xiao.
“…Huff… Huff…”
After delivering over a hundred heavy blows, even a student from Military University, known for their exceptional stamina, would inevitably feel some fatigue. Wu Yong panted slightly, glaring at Lin Xiao, his molars nearly grinding to dust.
The surrounding chatter only fueled his anger and frustration. What he should have been hearing were cheers from the audience, the exhilarating screams provoked by violence and bloodlust. Lin Xiao should have been on the ground, like a mangy dog, begging for mercy, crying for a reprieve.
He wanted Zhao Siya to personally plead for him, to witness how disgraceful this man was!
That was the scene supposed to unfold today…
Not this.
Being watched like a clown, becoming the subject of their jokes and amusement!
“You worthless… If you’ve got guts, stop running and fight me head-on-!”
Wu Yong hunched his body, channeling his rage and hatred into strength, and swung his most ferocious punch.
The punch missed.
Just as he tried to retract his fist, he realized his arm wouldn’t move. A long-fingered hand had firmly grasped his wrist, like a solid vise, welding his right hand in place.
“Alright, let’s fight head-on.”
Lin Xiao’s face broke into a smile, his calm words reaching Wu Yong’s ears.
“Don’t give up too quickly.”
A powerful straight punch tore through the air, like a fearsome war hammer, striking Wu Yong’s abdomen with force.
The six-foot-five man was lifted off his feet, thrown into the air, and landed two meters away on the ground.
The entire arena fell silent.
