- Chapter 36 - The Swift Collapse of the Wolf Pack
At the summit, in the staff office.
Hot water cascaded down, filling the air with the scent of fruits and flowers, and the orange-red, translucent tea filled the clear teapot.
With her chestnut curls loosely draped, the woman in an elegant long dress took the teapot, humming a light tune, and walked over to the work area adorned with multiple display screens.
Another teacher was already there, stationed in front of the screen, dressed in a formal female instructor’s uniform, her hair pinned up, the lenses of her gold-rimmed glasses reflecting the fluorescent lights.
“Xiao Qing, black tea~”
“Thank you.”
Li Jingru filled their ceramic cups and glanced at the screen on the wall.
The large display was neatly divided into dozens of windows, all showing footage of the Class F student teams. Although neither of them was controlling it, the video feeds shifted angles following the students’ movements.
The back mountain, transformed by the school over decades, was equipped with wide-area high-definition surveillance gear at nearly every segment of the path, with drones floating in the air to track the students’ movements.
All video surveillance was processed by AI, automatically tracking the teams and presenting the most optimal viewing angles.
After all, these combat activities were fraught with danger, and if a student were severely injured, the school could initiate immediate medical intervention.
Beep-
Suddenly, one video expanded in size and floated to the center of the screen.
“Oh my~ it looks like a Wolf Pack team has made contact!”
Class F’s advisor, Li Jingru, straightened up, her face alight with interest.
Usually, such a screen adjustment indicated that members from both classes had entered the same area and were about to clash.
Given the number of Wolf Pack teams, there was a considerable chance of encountering each other on the mid-lower mountain slopes.
And neither side would typically avoid confrontation; after all, filled with youthful vigor, no one believed they would lose before the fight even began.
Sure enough, the two teams soon spotted each other. After a brief hesitation, they charged towards each other simultaneously.
When paths cross, only the strong emerge as hunters!
“Xiao Qing~ why does this team from your class consist only of girls?”
Li Jingru peered closer, a curious expression crossing her face.
Wu Qinghua sipped her black tea and replied calmly, “The strength of a warrior is not determined by gender.”
While men naturally possess greater physical strength than women, that was before they encountered vitalis. After years of absorbing this energy, students at the Military University had bodies that were nearly superhuman.
The inherent physical differences between genders had long since become negligible.
“You know very well that’s not what I meant~ I always love an all-girls team!”
Li Jingru pouted and playfully rolled her eyes.
“But team formation must be rational! It should consider overall strength, not just whims!”
Typically, a Wolf Pack team would consist of a top-ranking student as the leader, supported by two students of average strength and two weaker students.
This ensured that each team had fighting potential and didn’t just serve as cannon fodder.
After redistributing the five top fighters, team assignments had become rather challenging, feeling somewhat lacking no matter how they were arranged.
“I think the arrangements are quite reasonable.”
“Humph-! Let’s see then~ They’re about to start fighting!”
Pulling out a tin of cookies from beneath the cabinet, the Class F advisor seemed like a child waiting for a movie to start, eagerly munching on her snack.
…
Tall and muscular, Li Jufeng kept running, instructing his teammates behind him:
“Make sure everyone has identified their opponent! If you can’t beat them, defend first, and I’ll come help after I’ve taken one down!”
As the seventh-ranked member of Class F and undoubtedly a high-end combat force in the Wolf Pack, he was also the captain of this small team.
“Okay!”
Several responses echoed, filled with nervousness and excitement, as if they were eagerly looking forward to the battle.
Li Jufeng understood this well; his aggressive genes were also cheering, eager to unleash his full strength.
Class C’s squad was now within 300 meters-a close distance where both sides would engage in direct conflict within ten seconds.
The opponents were all female, but Li Jufeng didn’t underestimate them; he had already picked out his target.
Chen Feifei, ranked eighth in Class C, was surely the captain of the opposing squad.
Their class had gathered intelligence last night, and the information about the top-ranking students, including Chen Feifei, had been shared in their class group chat.
Li Jufeng was confident; he felt he was stronger than his opponent.
But… why was there a nagging unease inside him?
Who was that tall woman?
…Why was she wearing a mask?
The time for contemplation was brief as the enemy had already approached.
Unexpectedly, the woman named Chen Feifei did not target him but aimed to attack another student.
Of course, Li Jufeng couldn’t let her succeed. Just as he was about to intercept her, a leg swung at him like a battle-ax.
Not good!
His pupils dilated, and though Li Jufeng tried to dodge, it was too late. He could only raise his arms in an attempt to lessen the impact.
In an instant, his defense was shattered, and the tremendous force hammered against his chest.
Boom-!
The burly man was sent flying, gliding through the air before crashing hard onto the ground.
“What!?”
The Class F squad was momentarily stunned, giving their opponents the chance to land several heavy blows.
“Ola-! Ola-! Take my punch!”
“Yaya, haven’t you finished them off yet?”
…
The battle ended quickly.
The strength of Class C’s squad was overwhelming.
Ranked second, Fang Wen; eighth, Chen Feifei; and Zhao Siya, who had recently made significant improvements to rank among the top ten in her class.
The remaining students from Class F didn’t even have a chance to fight, let alone escape!
In less than twenty seconds, they were all lying on the ground, utterly powerless.
Fang Wen took the opponent’s watch and strapped it to her wrist.
Beep-
On the watch screen, Class C’s score changed from 0 to 10.
“You… are… Fang Wen!?”
Li Jufeng, clutching his chest, struggled to keep his eyelids open as he asked intermittently.
Fang Wen blinked, removed her mask, and smiled lightly.
“Why… for what…”
In pain and confusion, the burly man Li Jufeng closed his eyes and passed out.
Medical personnel would arrive soon to administer aid.
The group of girls from Class C threw down the opponent’s watch and hurriedly continued to the upper floors.
…
Apart from Fang Wen and her team, other Wolf Pack squads from Class C also gradually made contact with the enemy.
“Why is Chen here! Isn’t he a Lone Wolf!?”
“Damn! Has Class C gone mad?”
“Why are the ninth and tenth ranked together in one team!?”
“Run! Save whoever can!”
…
The students’ watches had a radio function, and the cries of Class F echoed through the staff office.
Li Jingru held half a cookie in her hand, silent and expressionless as she watched the almost one-sided farce on the screen.
The corner of the screen displayed the score comparison between the two classes-28:8.
Wu Qinghua stretched out her fair fingers, picked up a piece of cookie, and took a light bite.
“So sweet…”
