- Chapter 48 - Perhaps It's a Chance for Life
It was at that moment Feng Moyu told her: to avoid being afraid, you must first make the enemy afraid. No matter how much fear you feel inside, as long as you remain calmer than others, they will panic. Seizing this moment might just be a chance for life.
Narrowing her eyes, Feng Mojin struggled to prop herself up with her bound hands. Seizing the moment when her captors were panicking, she suddenly lunged forward, forcefully pushing aside the big man blocking her way. Without pausing, she started to run, but in the next second, someone violently tugged her hair. Her hairstyle fell apart, and the tassel hairpin and hairpins that had held her hair all fell to the ground. Feng Mojin was pulled to the ground by that force.
“Damn it! What are you all waiting for? Let this woman go, or we’re all dead!” The man glared at Feng Mojin, a murderous intent flashing in his eyes. He raised his knife and slowly turned around, his horrifying visage reflected in Feng Mojin’s eyes, sending a chill down her spine.
But in an instant, the look in Feng Mojin’s eyes shifted from fear of death to shock at the bizarre situation: the man who had sworn to kill her was suddenly bleeding from all seven orifices. She watched in disbelief as bright red blood flowed from his eyes, ears, mouth, and nose. He let out a scream, his knife-hand trembling uncontrollably before he shrieked and dropped the knife, clutching desperately at his neck and struggling. Before long, he fell straight to the ground.
The surrounding robbers, upon witnessing this horrifying scene, almost immediately dropped their weapons and scrambled toward the exit. However, they had not escaped the grim reaper’s grasp; within moments, everyone gathered at the door collapsed before Feng Mojin.
In one swift stroke, Feng Mojin couldn’t help but furrow her brow. To kill everyone here in such a brutal manner was clearly beyond the capabilities of an ordinary person. Moreover, these people had made no sound when they died, which was incredibly eerie!
Calming her mind, Feng Mojin strained to lift her gaze toward the front. Unfortunately, due to her line of sight, she could only see a corner of a white garment, unable to make out the person’s face clearly.
“Third Princess, are you alright?” A voice that carried a sense of familiarity startled Feng Mojin. When she returned to her senses, she realized the person supporting her was none other than Li Bai, the girl she had only met yesterday and had unintentionally wounded with her words. Yet if it was Li Bai who had killed these men, it was entirely possible. She remembered her second brother mentioning that Li Bai was a flower demon-although this fact exceeded her imagination.
“I’m fine, thank you, Li Bai.” Feng Mojin steadied her nerves, shook her head, and sincerely thanked Li Bai before trying to walk outside. However, it seemed like she had bumped into something at her feet. Curious, she squatted down and picked up the tassel hairpin from the ground. After examining it closely for a moment, she realized it was the very hairpin Bi’an had given her on her birthday. Because she didn’t particularly like Bi’an, she had set it aside as soon as she received it. The fact that it had turned up here was probably because some clueless maid thought it was pretty and had put it in her hair before she left the palace.
However, the tassel hairpin that Bi’an had gifted her actually suited her quite well! Secretly praising it, Feng Mojin decided to tuck the hairpin away in her bosom. Turning around to call Li Bai to join her, she was startled to find the playful girl’s face suddenly clouded with gloom.
Li Bai’s originally almond-shaped, dark eyes had turned a terrifying shade of red. She stared coldly at Feng Mojin, her gaze resembling that of a venomous snake fixated on its prey.
The sudden and bizarre metaphor made Feng Mojin instinctively take a step back. The current Li Bai felt far more frightening than the group of robbers, especially since the girl who looked to be the same age as her was clearly not human!
“Hey, Third Princess, you’re around fifteen years old, right? Just about the same age as I appear, correct? So, can you give me your heart?” Li Bai said, her lips curling into a supernatural grin. She was slightly shorter than Feng Mojin and was now tilting her head up to look at her, an eerie smile spreading across her face that sent chills down Feng Mojin’s spine.
Did she just ask for her heart?
“Li… Li Bai, you must be joking, right? What use would my heart be to you?” Feng Mojin retreated again, but Li Bai only grinned more menacingly, relentlessly advancing. “I want to become human. If I become human, I can be with Zimu. I can marry him and have children. I can gain the happiness that I, as a demon, cannot have.”
“Le Zimu doesn’t like you! He likes Hongxiao! Even if you became human, he wouldn’t be with you!” Desperate to stop Li Bai’s delusional thoughts, Feng Mojin didn’t care about how hurtful her words might be; she just said whatever came to mind. But she didn’t expect Li Bai’s smile to turn even uglier than tears.
Fortunately, Li Bai didn’t come any closer, and Feng Mojin exhaled in relief, gradually backing toward the door. Just as she was about to step over the threshold, a voice suddenly rang out from nearby, sounding like it came straight from hell to Feng Mojin: “Li Bai, where are you? The person I like is you! It has always been you! Where are you?”
The voice, if she remembered correctly, belonged to Le Zimu-Li Bai’s beloved. At that moment, Le Zimu’s heartfelt confession felt like an enchanting message to Feng Mojin. Sure enough, upon hearing it, Li Bai’s face turned malevolent once more, her hand transforming into a claw as she swiftly reached for Feng Mojin’s heart.
“If you ever find yourself in danger, just break this tassel hairpin, and I will come to save you, no matter where you are.” Bi’an’s words echoed suddenly in Feng Mojin’s mind. Instinctively, she took out the tassel hairpin and hurled it forcefully to the ground, just as Li Bai’s hand was threateningly close to her heart!
When Le Zimu rushed to the Pavilion of Rebirth, Feng Moqing was also on his way there. The Shadow Guard assigned to escort Feng Mojin to Chancellor Feng Temple was supposed to relay messages back at regular intervals. However, it had already been several hours since Feng Mojin left the palace, and no messages had come through via carrier pigeon.
These Shadow Guards were personally trained by Jiang Qing, each more outstanding than the last and very aware of the importance of timing. There’s no way they could have failed to deliver a message well beyond the allotted time unless something had happened to them!
If the Shadow Guards and the attendants were all in trouble, then what about Feng Mojin? Was she still safe?
The thought that Feng Mojin might be in grave danger propelled Jiang Qing to immediately report to Feng Zihan, leading the golden grade Imperial Guards along Feng Mojin’s route to investigate. Meanwhile, Feng Moqing planned to ask Bi’an if there was a quicker way to locate Feng Mojin.
As for Le Zimu, he encountered a paper crane sent by Li Bai. Li Bai’s paper cranes could repeat the sounds made during their formation, so Le Zimu heard a scream through the crane! Although the scream wasn’t Li Bai’s, it indicated she was on-site, which raised the question: was Li Bai in danger?
The two hurried toward the Pavilion of Rebirth from different directions and unexpectedly crossed paths at the entrance. They exchanged a glance and saw the same urgency reflected in each other’s eyes, prompting them to rush into the pavilion together.
“Bi’an, something has happened to Xiao Jin! Can you find her?” (Pavilion Master, where is Li Bai?) The two voices rang out simultaneously, but to their disappointment, it wasn’t Bi’an who emerged from the back courtyard; it was Hua Ning, who usually manned the counter.
“Feng Moqing, Feng Mojin is indeed in trouble. She used the birthday gift your sister gave her, and it seems Li Bai is also involved,” Hua Ning quickly answered both their questions with concern as she cast a spell on Li Bai’s paper crane to guide them.
Receiving such clear information, the two almost forgot to thank Hua Ning as they darted out of the pavilion, leaving her behind with a complicated expression. She didn’t tell them that one of the two people they were worried about wanted to kill the other, and Feng Mojin might have already run into trouble!
As Feng Mojin’s vision blurred, she saw Li Bai seemingly plunging her hand into her own heart. Then she noticed a warm liquid slowly trickling down her chest, but she herself felt a wave of dizziness as she staggered backward. To her astonishment, she found herself falling into another person’s embrace.
In her haze, Feng Mojin sensed someone’s hand covering her eyes. As she closed her eyes, she caught a glimpse of a sleeve the color of red spider lilies.
Bi’an? Slowly closing her eyes, Feng Mojin felt a sense of peace wash over her as she gradually lost consciousness.
“Li Bai, you shouldn’t have touched her in my presence.” Bi’an stared coldly at Li Bai, who seemed to have lost her sanity, and the confusion in her heart deepened. Li Bai’s demeanor clearly indicated she was under someone’s influence, meaning there was another force lurking in the shadows-someone stronger than Li Bai!
That person might be her greatest enemy, but for now, the immediate priority was to rescue Li Bai from this enchantment!
“Give me your heart!” Li Bai yelled fiercely at Bi’an, charging toward her with murderous intent!
Seeing this, Bi’an set Feng Mojin aside, casting a protective shield before stepping forward to absorb Li Bai’s deadly attack. Although the force of Li Bai’s strike was diminished, she merely replied with a cold smile. Doubt stirred in Bi’an’s mind, but before she could contemplate the possibilities, Li Bai raised her hand. In an instant, a myriad of pear blossom petals enveloped Bi’an.
These petals appeared chaotic, but they effectively sealed off all of Bi’an’s escape routes, each one sharp as a blade, capable of inflicting fatal harm at the slightest misstep!
“Li Bai, do you even know who I am?” In response to Li Bai’s menacing smile, Bi’an spoke calmly. She slightly raised her hand and pulled out a jade hairpin from her hair, letting her ink-black hair cascade down to her ankles.
Though there was no wind, Bi’an’s thick locks eerily began to swirl. What terrified Li Bai even more was that the hair suddenly broke through her floral barrier, each strand piercing through the petals, and Li Bai watched in shock as her flowers turned to ash upon contact with Bi’an’s hair.
In the brief moment of distraction, Bi’an was already standing before Li Bai.
“Sorry.” A detached voice whispered in her ear. Suddenly, Bi’an struck with speed, her palm hitting Li Bai’s chest. Li Bai felt an unusual force crash through her body, clashing violently with her innate demonic powers, causing her to curl up in pain and collapse to the ground.
Bi’an coolly observed Li Bai as she writhed in agony, emitting pained whimpers.
Time passed unmeasured until the force within Li Bai gradually calmed. Slowly, she opened her eyes and pushed back the damp hair clinging to her forehead, staring dazedly at Bi’an, who was cradling Feng Mojin.
“What happened to me?”
“Le Zimu is looking for you.” Bi’an answered cryptically, dropping the statement as though it carried no weight. Without a backward glance, she turned and left, taking Feng Mojin with her, leaving Li Bai standing there in a state of bewilderment.
