Beneath the Dome, Sin within Sins - Chapter 91 - The Autopsy
When I went out with Su Mo earlier, I was already on edge. After all, what happened last time left me deeply skeptical about the places Su Mo chooses for our travels. To make matters worse, it started raining as soon as we arrived, which only soured my mood further.
And now, this incident happened. My pent-up frustration was just waiting for an outlet, and the woman standing before me practically walked straight into the line of fire.
As a result, my tone was quite stern when I spoke. Hearing my words, the woman froze on the spot, utterly terrified.
Seeing that she had finally quieted down, I shot Su Mo a look.
Su Mo understood immediately, nodding in acknowledgment. He then pulled out a pair of gloves he always carried with him, set aside the dagger in Bai Yue’s trembling hand, and escorted her to the back to rest. She looked dazed and stiff, clearly in shock.
As for me, I stepped over to the host of the event and said, “Who’s in charge of planning this event? I need to see them. Also, you need to call the police right away.”
“Yes,” the host replied, nodding. He turned to instruct his assistant to make the call, then looked back at me and said, “Hello, I am the organizer of this event.”
I nodded without responding verbally and reached into my pocket to retrieve a clean handkerchief. Striding over to the victim, I crouched down to examine their condition.
The victim had been stabbed in the abdomen, and there were no injuries on the rest of their body. In other words, the abdominal wound was the fatal injury. Just moments ago, the stage had gone completely dark for a brief period. During that time, anyone near the stage could have committed the crime. This naturally included backstage staff and even the host.
Judging by the stiffness of the corpse, the time of death was likely between one and two hours ago.
However, what puzzled me was the excessive amount of blood. If the victim had been fatally stabbed, the blood loss shouldn’t have been severe enough to pool on the ground, let alone stain Bai Yue’s clothes.
It was almost as though someone had taken a bucket of blood and deliberately dumped it all over the scene.
With this in mind, I began inspecting the area thoroughly. Eventually, I found something peculiar under the stage-a stretchy, skin-like material. Not only that, but it was also stained with blood.
I carefully examined it for a while before finally understanding what it was. Thinking back to those splattered bloodstains from earlier, the truth behind this object immediately became clear.
A balloon!
The murderer must have filled it with blood beforehand. After committing the crime, they punctured the balloon, letting the blood splatter all over the scene.
Although the murder weapon was found in Bai Yue’s hand, seemingly framing her, the truth was the killer wasn’t focused on pinning the crime on her at all. Instead, they were indulging in some twisted sense of satisfaction. If I had to guess, this felt much more like some kind of ritual.
A blood-soaked stage, a lifeless woman lying on it, and the murderer-still in this hotel, yet to leave.
At this moment, Su Mo walked out of the lounge.
Seeing him, I asked with some concern, “How is Bai Yue doing?”
“She changed clothes and took a shower, but her mental state still seems very shaky,” Su Mo replied.
Hearing his words, a peculiar feeling stirred within me.
I had never expected that this girl, who had suddenly barged into my life, would affect me so deeply.
“You stay here and question them,” I began, referring to the other attendees. “Also, find out who was closest to the victim. I’ll-”
Before I could finish, Su Mo patted my shoulder, flashing a knowing grin and giving me a thumbs-up. “Alright, alright! I got you, buddy. Go ahead.”
I let out a sigh, feeling a little helpless. This wasn’t exactly a situation where I could say much, so I turned and headed toward the lounge Su Mo had just come from.
When I entered, a staff member was sitting with Bai Yue. Well, “sitting with” wasn’t entirely accurate. They were just sitting next to her, clearly unsure of what else to do. Judging by the staff member’s expression, it was obvious they had already assumed Bai Yue was the murderer.
That expression-a mix of fear and judgment-filled me with disgust. People these days, I thought, always take what they see at face value, never bothering to question whether what they’re seeing is the truth.
Upon seeing me enter, the person quickly stood up and nodded at me. I didn’t say anything, just waved my hand, signaling her to go out, and then pulled up a chair to sit across from Bai Yue.
As I sat down, Bai Yue’s gaze remained blank, showing no reaction to my presence.
I had intended to talk with Bai Yue and inquire about what had happened earlier, especially since she had been right by the victim the whole time.
But seeing her like this, I just didn’t know what to say.
Eventually, I decided to leave. The police would be arriving soon, and they would have a professional team to provide psychological support to Bai Yue. It’s understandable for someone to feel panicked and lost after such an incident.
Just as I was about to leave, Bai Yue’s voice suddenly broke the silence, her voice soft and trembling slightly: “I… I didn’t kill anyone.”
Hearing this, my steps halted abruptly, and I turned back to look at Bai Yue.
By then, Bai Yue had turned her head towards me. How should I describe her at that moment? Tears streamed down her face, making her look pitifully charming.
“Handsome guy, do you believe me? I didn’t kill anyone.”
After saying this, Bai Yue covered her face and began sobbing softly.
Her crying was quiet at first, but gradually, her voice grew louder.
Facing a woman, especially one crying so miserably, I’m really out of my depth.
Standing there, feeling completely helpless, I finally decided to pull over a chair and sit across from Bai Yue, just watching her cry. Although I felt I should do something, I simply did not know what to do.
