All-Class Anti-Mage - Chapter 47 - Arrival of the Beast Language
“Is this what you call Lulu?” Yang Zhen exclaimed loudly. A group of bandits, who were watching, turned pale with fear. Even if Yang Zhen hadn’t been there, if they had attempted to rob Babala, they would have met the same fate once Lulu appeared!
Because what Babala affectionately referred to as Lulu was a-dragon!
Although it was a lower-tier pterosaur from the dragon race, it still possessed strength above the fifth tier! Being the only flying species in the dragon race added to its power. Yang Zhen was filled with shock. Had the Blue Moon Legion forged an alliance with the dragons? They were actually using a pterosaur as a mount!
“That’s right! Lulu, say hello to everyone,” Babala said with a smile, giving the pterosaur a gentle pat on its neck.
Lulu unfurled its wings, which were more than four meters long, and flapped them a couple of times, emitting cheerful sounds from its bird-like mouth. Although it resembled a magical beast, Yang Zhen, as a beast taming grandmaster, knew there was a significant difference between the two.
Firstly, dragons do not possess crystal cores nor have the ability to cast magic, but their physical attributes and strength are the strongest among all races on the Firmament Continent. Despite its seemingly soft, plump wings, Lulu could easily withstand weapons like the firewood axes those earlier individuals had used. Additionally, it was immune to spells below level three. It was said that the fiercest of them all, the Tyrannosaurus rex, could even resist tenth-level forbidden incantations!
Secondly, while the dragon race holds a strong sense of hierarchy, they never turn against each other. Unlike magical beasts, which, according to Roland, exist within a food chain, this is something even the Beast God cannot stop, and Yang Zhen, as a beast taming grandmaster, cannot prevent either. Thus, he could watch magical beasts die, but he could not tolerate humans slaughtering magical beasts for their crystal cores, skins, or limbs.
Thirdly, the dragon race is exceptionally united; even the most cohesive barbarians and Orcs cannot compare. This is one of the reasons ordinary people do not dare to hunt dragons. Most importantly, once a dragon dies, all its extraordinary defensive power ceases to exist-its body becomes no sturdier than a piece of paper.
Given these circumstances, who would dare to provoke the dragon race easily? A millennium ago, they stood above the ancient elves and black iron dwarfs, being the undisputed rulers of the Firmament Continent. However, during the invasion of the East Continent, they ultimately failed and returned without knowing where to hide.
So how did the Blue Moon Legion make contact with them? Yang Zhen secretly marveled; it seemed the Blue Moon Legion held considerable power as well.
Jumping onto Lulu’s back with Babala, Yang Zhen gained a deeper understanding of the Dragons’ power. Lulu, with a wingspan of over ten meters, carried the two of them aloft without breaking a sweat. However, Yang Zhen found it a bit uncomfortable to face the biting cold wind, which rushed into his mouth as he opened it to speak.
As they soared into the sky on the pterosaur, the sight of them shrinking to a small dot brought tears to the eyes of the two reapers, Pascal and Wuxue. How could they compete? There was no way legs and wings could compare!
The two glared at each other from a hundred meters apart, their eyes filled with ferocity. They had battled countless times, but neither could gain the upper hand over the other. Wuxue felt despondent; Pascal was only at the eighth tier, and despite his own strength at the ninth tier, he still couldn’t win. If this got out, it would be utterly embarrassing!
If Wuxue had known who Pascal’s teacher was, he wouldn’t have thought that way. However, Pascal wasn’t about to reveal his true identity; with a cold snort, he turned and ran toward Peterburg. Pascal wasn’t willing to give up. Yang Zhen had become everything to him and his spiritual support. He had done so much for his future master; how could he let go so easily?
Wuxue felt the same way. The task assigned to him by Karl was to prevent Curis’s men from getting close to Yang Zhen. Even if he couldn’t deal with Pascal, he had to stop him from approaching Yang Zhen. Fine, even though these two were now running together with the same goal, one of them would eventually have to fall.
Yang Zhen on Lulu’s back was also having a tough time. He still had many questions for Babala, but how could he speak in this biting wind? Slapping his forehead, Yang Zhen thought to himself how foolish he was; he had only remembered that he was an anti-mage but forgot about the mountains of magic scrolls stored in his space ring.
Yang Zhen pushed his psychic energy into the ring and after searching for a while, he pulled out a bunch of scrolls and hugged them to his chest. These were scrolls he had created during his research at the Mage Tower. Babala was left dumbfounded; even though fabric scrolls were cheap, there was no need to use them so extravagantly.
With a loud “crack,” Yang Zhen unfurled one of the scrolls, and a green wind shield formed to block the cold wind from reaching them. Before Yang Zhen could even ask his question, Babala blurted out something that left him speechless.
“The people from the Mage Guild are the worst! You still use scrolls produced by them?”
Okay, even though fabric scrolls have taken away business from your Blue Moon Legion, the Mage Guild is still despicable. Is there something wrong with using the scrolls I made myself? Isn’t that the point of making them?
“Ahem… I think this is a question of keeping up with the times. At least it allows most people who can’t afford magic scrolls to use them. This can be seen as a good thing,” Yang Zhen defended himself, throwing in some trendy phrases from Roland at just the right moment.
“Oh, Babala knows all about this, but it’s because of this piece of fabric that our Blue Moon Legion has lost a lot of money. Nowadays, few people buy magical beast hides, and everyone in the legion is worried. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be such a large operation happening this time,” Babala sighed lightly, clearly showing a deep sense of belonging to the Blue Moon Legion.
“What large operation?” Yang Zhen’s eyes lit up. It seemed he didn’t even need to ask much; the straightforward Babala would tell him everything. With that thought, Yang Zhen snapped open another blue water shield, which made him look somewhat like a spendthrift in Babala’s eyes.
“This will be the largest operation since the truce with the Orcs…” Unfortunately, the water shield couldn’t withstand the cold wind for long and was blown away shortly. Yang Zhen couldn’t hear anything else Babala said after that, and it also resulted in the barbarian getting a mouthful of cold air.
Yang Zhen quickly rummaged through his things, grabbing a wind shield scroll without hesitation and snapping it open with a loud “crack.” He then stared at Babala’s face and said, “You can continue.”
“Your… your scroll is different from others. How come it creates two shells at once?” Babala pointed at the wind shield, looking thoroughly confused.
Yang Zhen turned his head and was suddenly alarmed; he had inadvertently pulled out the composite generation one scroll. This morning he had just handed over “The First Chapter of the Composite Scroll” to Roban, and there were no composite scrolls on the market yet. However, dealing with Babala became much easier.
“This is a new variety that I just acquired.”
“Oh…” Babala sighed again upon hearing this, “Now it’s even worse; the legion’s business with magical beast hides is completely finished. This kind of dual-shell magic has never been seen in the Firmament Continent before.”
Yang Zhen was astonished. Who said barbarians couldn’t think outside the box? Babala had just managed to see through the essence of the composite generation one scroll in an instant. Just as Yang Zhen was preparing to ask more questions, the two shells of the wind shield faded away again. This was currently the main flaw of the composite scrolls-their duration for maintaining ongoing magic was not very good.
He looked down and thoroughly searched again, then snapped open another ordinary wind shield scroll with a loud “crack.” Just as he was about to speak, Babala interjected again.
“You’re so wasteful!”
Wasteful? Yang Zhen considered this for a moment. For him, it was just clearing out the junk in his space ring. If he didn’t clean it out soon, there wouldn’t be any room left to store anything.
This ring was snatched from Solin and wasn’t anything fancy. When he left, Roland had stuffed it full of items, claiming that space rings preserve freshness and prevent things from spoiling. If one was hungry, they could just eat. Yang Zhen did a quick inventory and thought to himself that the food in there could likely feed the Blue Moon Legion for a meal.
“What were you saying about a large operation?” Yang Zhen felt he might go crazy if he didn’t get an answer soon, as there were always distractions.
“This time it’s an operation for the entire legion to enter the Beast Language Forest and capture advanced magical beasts for their crystal cores. Now, the only thing that can make money is the crystal core of magical beasts…”
What Babala said next was lost on Yang Zhen, as he was struck dumb by the news. Scenes of intense carnage played out in his mind, filled with the roars and wails of magical beasts, alongside the charges and screams of humans. What stance should he take in this situation?
In the past, he had always stood firmly on the side of the magical beasts as a beast taming grandmaster, unable to tolerate the brutal slaughtering and exploitation by humans. But this time, the Blue Moon Legion clearly faced financial difficulties and had been pushed into a corner.
Yang Zhen was human and understood that hundreds of thousands of soldiers in the Blue Moon Legion needed to eat. Though he wasn’t a paragon of virtue, he certainly wasn’t a villain who would heartlessly condemn countless lives. Yet all of this was brought about by his own work, the “Theory of Rune Consciousness”!
On the surface, the “Theory of Rune Consciousness” had liberated tens of millions of magical beasts, but in reality, it had brought greater disaster to them and the hundreds of thousands of humans in the Blue Moon Legion! Moreover, the emergence of “The First Chapter of the Composite Scroll” would only exacerbate this situation! The only way to stop this catastrophe was to develop a product that could serve as a replacement for the crystal cores of magical beasts, but what could the Blue Moon Legion do?
“Not all humans are evil, and not all magical beasts are fervent followers of the Beast God.” Reflecting on the advice the flamingo had given him, Yang Zhen now realized that the journey into the Beast Language Forest was anything but simple. Everything was interconnected, unfolding and changing according to his actions.
Furthermore, gaining the divine favors of the four divine beasts wouldn’t be easy!
“There’s no need for all this, right? I just wanted to rescue my teachers and, while I’m at it, reach the top level in my main class and subclass. Why am I burdened with so much responsibility? What does this have to do with rescuing my teachers?” Yang Zhen lamented inwardly. He never considered himself a savior, yet it seemed all events revolved around his presence.
During the time Yang Zhen silently contemplated, he did not pull out any scrolls, which relieved Babala a bit. The legion’s comrades were already down to two meals a day, and the straightforward barbarian couldn’t stand to see Yang Zhen waste resources. If this large operation failed, the Blue Moon Legion would surely face annihilation.
What could a group of soldiers trained solely for combat do? Would they invade other countries? On the Firmament Continent, constrained by the four major powers, who dared to casually start a war?
Unknowingly, Lulu had already soared with the two of them into the vast forests of the Beast Language Forest. Yang Zhen exhaled a heavy breath; he still couldn’t think of a solution. While he had conceived an idea for an alternative to the magical beast crystal cores, what would happen to the Blue Moon Legion?
“We need to scout the situation in the Beast Language Forest first. This is an order Babala received and must complete. Babala will take you to Agada afterward,” Babala spoke loudly in Yang Zhen’s ear.
Yang Zhen nodded, but he couldn’t tell the straightforward Babala that his ultimate destination was, in fact, the Beast Language Forest!
