All-Class Anti-Mage - Chapter 46 - Barbarian Bandits
After the barbarians were defeated on the East Continent and scattered, they joined human communities for a long time, inevitably picking up some human traits. Babala could tell lies, and although his deception was rather crude, it indicated that the barbarians were influenced by humans. This was especially true for the bandit group surrounding them, which was significantly affected.
In such a dire situation, Yang Zhen was not concerned about his own safety but rather about the essence of the Blue Moon Legion. A barbarian who had grown up in the Blue Moon Legion could still retain his original simplicity, reflecting that the discipline of the Blue Moon Legion was no less than that of a regular army.
“Leader, I’m talking about him! Just look at that armor-it’s definitely worth a lot, he must have money on him!” shouted a barbarian with a toothless grin at his side, pointing at Babala. He was clearly the leader, wielding a human-styled greatsword in one hand.
“Meiya, I’ll remember this credit to you!” The one-eyed leader pointed his greatsword at Babala and roared ferociously, “Rob him! Hand over all your money, and take off that armor!”
“Leader, there’s another person over there,” Meiya quickly added, trying to win favor before Babala could get angry.
“Fool! Does he look like someone rich in that shabby outfit?” The one-eyed leader knocked Meiya on the head with the flat of his sword, and Meiya hurriedly ducked behind him, clutching his head.
Usually, they targeted people like Yang Zhen, who looked impoverished but harmless. But today, they were all captivated by Babala’s armor.
Yang Zhen was taken aback… Am I really a poor man? He deliberately flashed his space ring, but the bandit group still ignored it.
He was utterly speechless. Should he really tell these muscle-brained people that he had the equivalent of half a month’s income from the Bidel Mage Guild in his space ring? A full ten million gold coins! All of it shoved into his hands by Roland, who was worried about him suffering.
Moreover, in this desolate little village, all the household items combined must be worth more than the armor on Babala. But these ridiculous thieves were fixated on the shiny armor, and one barbarian bandit even smashed a pottery basin worth five hundred gold coins to demonstrate his bravado.
Is this… really a bandit? They’re so unprofessional!
“Don’t you dare destroy anything from our tribe! You are all a disgrace to the barbarians!” Babala shouted in anger. As the guardian of the village, how could he stand by and watch this group of bandits destroy everything?
Drawing his greatsword from his waist, Babala viciously charged forward and swiftly took down three bandit barbarians. However, even a brave warrior like him couldn’t withstand the onslaught of a dozen other barbarians of similar strength, and he was pushed back.
“Wait, I have something to say!” Yang Zhen pulled Babala back, who struggled multiple times but couldn’t break free. He couldn’t understand how this skinny young man could be so strong.
“To those without money, step aside! We’re robbing him!” the one-eyed leader pointed his greatsword at Yang Zhen, trying to appear fierce, but the sight made the young man want to laugh.
“Haha…” Yang Zhen laughed as he took out a bag of gold coins from his space ring, tossing it up and down.
“Leader, he has a space ring! That bag must be full of gold coins!”
Meiya rushed over, shouting, but the one-eyed leader pushed him back again.
“I saw it! Stop stating the obvious!” the leader shouted back at Yang Zhen, “Rob him! Get the gold coins out of your hands!”
“I’m already showing them to you.”
“…”
Yang Zhen’s response left the one-eyed leader momentarily confused, and Meiya, not sensing the atmosphere, leaned in and whispered, “Leader, you should say ‘hand it over.'”
“That’s obvious! I know that!” The poor Meiya was sent back again as the leader pointed at Yang Zhen and yelled, “Rob him! Hand over the gold coins!”
“Handing them over is impossible; I’m taking them out for you to rob. You’re all bandits-how can you enjoy the thrill of the heist without going through the process?” Yang Zhen teased. “By the way, that pottery basin you just smashed is over four hundred years old. If you brought it to a big city, those noble lords would pay at least five hundred gold coins for it.”
The one-eyed leader paused in shock. Five hundred gold coins? Even if his gang robbed for a year, they wouldn’t be able to steal that much. They didn’t dare rob the merchant caravans because they had guards. And anyone with a class badge was also off-limits. So, how many people could they possibly find on the Firmament Continent who actually carried money?
It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that these bandits were the most miserable on the Firmament Continent. Immediately, the one-eyed leader ordered a few others to beat up the bandit who had broken the pottery basin. Without their original straightforward and simple qualities, these barbarians were left with nothing but ignorance!
“Run! Babala can hold them off; it’s all Babala’s fault for letting you stay here. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have targeted you.” As the group began to quarrel, Babala forcefully pushed Yang Zhen. He never considered that it was Yang Zhen himself who had taken out the money, leading to their robbery.
These were barbarians too, but why was there such a big difference between them? Yang Zhen shook his head, gently pushing away Babala’s hand. As soon as the one-eyed bandit commanded the execution of what Yang Zhen had described as pleasure, Yang Zhen flipped his hand and pulled out a jagged greatsword from his space ring!
“Ha ha… Look, his sword is even more broken than mine…” As the one-eyed bandit mocked the greatsword, Yang Zhen had already made his move, showing no mercy!
With one swing, he cleaved a barbarian bandit wielding an axe in two, from head to axe. Could the quality of a greatsword forged by Master Trolley ever be compared to a wood-chopping axe? Then came another swing, sending a barbarian holding a pitchfork flying through the air!
“He flew so far.” Meiya shaded his eyes from the sun and watched the pitchfork-wielding man hit the ground before turning back to realize that one of his companions had been killed. “Murder!”
With a shriek, Meiya, panicked, staggered back several steps. Despite this, the bandits continued to encircle Yang Zhen and Babala but refused to flee. Fear was evident in the only eye left on the one-eyed bandit’s face; a life had just been abruptly taken!
“Are you… sure you’re an assassin?” Babala stared blankly at Yang Zhen. Since when were assassins stronger than barbarians? Weren’t assassins supposed to lurk in the shadows and strike from ambush? As for the fellow tribe member who was cleaved to death, Babala had little sympathy, as that was a disgrace to barbarians!
“I’m sure, I am an assassin. And I am also a sword cultivator!” Yang Zhen thought to himself that he could finally admit he was a sword cultivator. Their swordsmanship was even worse than mine!
After saying this, Yang Zhen performed the Shadow Assault to prove his words. The one-eyed bandit only saw a blur before the unblinking, murderous young man appeared right in front of him. Although he was taller than Yang Zhen by a head, the mocked greatsword was now resting under his neck, ready to sever his head!
“Still thinking of robbing? The money is right here, do you want it?” Yang Zhen continued to toss the bag of gold coins up and down, as the one-eyed bandit slowly shook his head in terror, afraid that a quick shake might cause his head to be sawed off. The sword in Yang Zhen’s hand looked just like a saw.
“Then why don’t you scram!” Yang Zhen roared. He wasn’t a murderous demon; just scaring them by killing one or two was enough. He guessed that these barbarian bandits wouldn’t dare to rob anyone in plain clothes anymore. So, were there still people on the Firmament Continent they could rob?
To his surprise, the one-eyed man stumbled back several steps, just like the group of barbarian bandits, showing fright in their eyes but refusing to leave. Yang Zhen mistook their persistence for defiance and was about to take drastic action when Babala suddenly spoke up.
“Barbarians never abandon their comrades, not even in death. They always bring back the bodies. You are the pride of the barbarians!”
Just like that, these barbarian bandits were proud again. Yang Zhen smirked, but it was clear that these bandits were unwilling to leave their comrade’s body behind, remembering that they carried the bloodline of barbarians.
“I’m heading back to Nobi City now. Since you haven’t forgotten the will of the barbarians, I’ll leave this village in your hands,” Babala said, helping the one-eyed man to his feet. The man nodded frantically, his eyes showing a hint of gratitude, but upon catching sight of Yang Zhen again, his expression turned to pure fear.
This resolution wasn’t too bad; after this incident, these barbarians would surely think twice before raiding again. And by taking care of this small village, they would have enough to live a stable life.
Yang Zhen watched them bury their comrade’s body and secretly admired Babala’s magnanimity. Barbarians think in simple terms: friends are friends, and enemies are enemies. But if an enemy does something they respect, they might just turn into friends, and a friend who betrays them becomes an undeniable enemy!
“All right, their business is settled. Let’s go. Lulu is very strong; she won’t delay us,” Babala said cheerfully. Barbarians are straightforward in their speech and aren’t adept at apologizing. Yang Zhen, however, didn’t mind these quirks and was more curious about what Lulu was.
Babala pulled a psychic space ring from his pocket, similar to the one Yang Zhen wore, capable of holding living beings. Yang Zhen was puzzled, “Why don’t you wear the ring on your finger instead of keeping it in your pocket?”
Such space rings adjust to the size of the wearer’s finger, so there’s no issue of barbarians not being able to wear them.
“The legion commander said this is Lulu’s home, the most precious thing that must not be lost, otherwise Lulu would be homeless. The legion commander instructed us to keep it close to our body at all times,” Babala casually replied.
You’re right, thought Yang Zhen. If you wore the ring on your finger, it could be stolen or someone could trick you out of it. Just as he was thinking this, Babala had already released Lulu, leaving Yang Zhen utterly astonished…
