- Chapter 44 - Chi Jin, Help Me, I Beg You...
The voice was filled with a sinister charm, arrogant and unyielding.
Who else could it be but Chi Jin?
The female colleague was also intimidated by Chi Jin’s domineering presence, apologized repeatedly, and quickly ran off.
I looked at Chi Jin, instantly on guard.
What was he planning to do?
Chi Jin wore a black Zorro mask and was dressed in a Thor-like armor and cape, strolling leisurely towards me.
I greeted him politely, “Mr. Chi.”
Chi Jin stopped in front of me, smiling with abandon, “Teaming up with a girl, how much chance do you think you have of winning?”
I turned away, replying coldly, “I don’t care about winning or losing the game.”
“Then do you not care about winning or losing against Nian Hua? Are you content to be tossed aside like trash after Song Yu’s done with you?” Chi Jin scoffed coldly.
My heart skipped a beat, and I stared at him in shock.
How did he know… about me, Song Yu, and Nian Hua?
“…I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I feigned ignorance, turning to leave.
“Bai Yu, are you really that naive or just pretending? Everyone at Huanya knows you’re Song Yu’s fling, and yet you claim ignorance?” Chi Jin chuckled disdainfully.
I felt a chill run through me, my breath catching, my throat tightening as if being squeezed, leaving me gasping for air.
“You’re devoted to Song Yu, but how does he see you?” Chi Jin casually touched on the most painful and humiliating topic for me.
“What are you trying to say?” I asked, my face tense.
“Song Yu’s greatest skill is manipulating people. Back in M Country, he used these underhanded tactics to clear his path, stepping on others to climb to where he is today.”
“So, to him, you’re just a tool for gaining benefits, not the first, and certainly not the last.” Chi Jin laughed, draping an arm around my shoulders, turning me around.
Like a puppet, I was maneuvered by Chi Jin, my gaze landing on Song Yu, who was laughing and chatting with Nian Hua and others.
A pang of pain shot through my heart.
“Well, do you see it clearly now?” Chi Jin sneered.
I held my breath, my chest swelling like an overinflated balloon, ready to burst with just a bit more pressure.
Suddenly-
“President Song!” Chi Jin called out to Song Yu with a smile.
Song Yu turned towards us, his smile vanishing the moment he saw me with Chi Jin.
I stood frozen, at a loss, though I had done nothing, my palms were sweating nervously.
Song Yu ignored Chi Jin, his gaze landing directly on me. Though his full-face mask hid his expressions, I could still sense the warning and threat in those cold, gleaming eyes. Just one look sent a shiver down my spine.
But why was he looking at me like that?
Was it because of Chi Jin by my side?
Song Yu had warned me to stay away from Chi Jin, but now we were practically strangers, so why was he still trying to control me?
Clearly, the one he liked was Nian Hua, so why did he keep stringing me along, making it impossible for me to let go?
I was truly fed up.
“I agree with you,” I said defiantly.
Chi Jin was momentarily taken aback, but quickly regained his composure. “Finally come to your senses?”
I remained silent, but my hand had already slipped into the crook of his arm.
Chi Jin let out a scoff, pulling me into his embrace as he shot a challenging look at Song Yu, lowering his voice to whisper in my ear, “Remember, from now on, we’re teammates. Got it?”
I kept my gaze fixed on Song Yu in the distance, not acknowledging the deeper meaning in Chi Jin’s words, and simply nodded woodenly.
Once the game props were set up, everyone plunged into the tense and exciting competition.
As the boss, Song Yu naturally wouldn’t compete with the employees for titles like Queen or King. Just standing in the dance floor during the warm-up was already a rare privilege.
Chi Jin held my wrist firmly as we queued up, eager to join the game.
I awkwardly tried to shake him off, but his grip was like a vice, refusing to let go.
“Mr. Chi!” I frowned and muttered, signaling him to release me.
Chi Jin dismissed my protest with a click of his tongue. “What’s wrong with holding hands for a game? Look around, everyone’s got their arms around each other.”
I pursed my lips, staying silent. I knew some physical contact was normal in cooperative games, but I still didn’t want to appear too close to Chi Jin.
Seeing my silence, Chi Jin suddenly chuckled and nodded towards the dining area. “Those two aren’t avoiding suspicion, so why should you?”
Following his gaze, I saw Song Yu and Nian Hua at the western buffet, feeding each other and laughing, looking incredibly sweet together.
I withdrew my gaze, lowered my head, feeling a mix of emotions that eventually settled into bitterness.
“Don’t be foolish, kid!” Chi Jin ruffled my silver hair, adopting a paternal tone.
I dodged his hand, retorting irritably, “You’re not much older than me, why call me a kid?”
Chi Jin was only 24, just four years older than me, so age-wise, I wasn’t inferior to him at all.
“Alright then, big friend, watch me lead us to victory later.” Chi Jin winked at me.
I wrinkled my nose, scoffing quietly.
When it was our turn to play, Chi Jin led us confidently, showing no mercy even against colleagues from the same department. Regardless of whether the game suited us, as long as it contributed to the total score, he was all in.
Several times, when it seemed we were about to lose, our opponents suddenly made mistakes, and we ended up with the highest score without fail.
Initially, I was puzzled, but soon realized the underlying trick.
Though Chi Jin was just a department manager at Huanya, everyone knew his father was the big boss, making him the future heir of Huanya.
Who would dare challenge the future boss?
Thanks to Chi Jin, as his game partner, I naturally attracted a lot of attention too.
Even with a mask on, I was recognized, and most people gave me looks that were intriguing, some even whispering and smirking as they glanced at me.
I didn’t need to guess what they were saying. Although they were outwardly polite, I knew exactly what they said behind my back.
Climbing into bed, selling oneself, the male version of a vixen.
To be honest, I’d heard such comments countless times before and never took them to heart. But seeing their mocking expressions now made me extremely uncomfortable, even furious.
Because just moments ago, while taking a break in the toilet, I overheard the following conversation.
“Hey, what’s going on tonight? Is President Song’s main squeeze here to assert her dominance?”
“Definitely. Didn’t you see how President Song ignored Bai Yu the whole time?”
“True, if it were me, I wouldn’t pay attention either. Do you know what President Song’s boyfriend does?”
“I heard he’s an engineer at a state-owned enterprise, and he was President Song’s first love in college.”
“Yeah, exactly. The guy’s handsome and cultured. Even though he likes men, he doesn’t look effeminate at all. Now look at Bai Yu, his face practically screams ‘come get me.'”
“Hahaha, do you think Bai Yu can even get it up?”
“Ha, get it up? Look at him, all girly. I doubt he even has the equipment.”
“Still, you have to admit Bai Yu’s got skills. Just after sleeping with President Song, he cozied up to the future chairman. Didn’t you see how Mr. Chi was during the game? He was so protective of Bai Yu, like he was ready to put him on a pedestal.”
“What, are you jealous? Just spread your cheeks, and the next chairman’s wife could be you.”
“Get lost, man. I’m a straight guy through and through. No way I’m letting anyone near my backside.”
“Hahaha, you better not. I heard guys like Bai Yu have leaky butts. Just thinking about it makes me sick.”
“Damn, you’re disgusting. If I can’t eat the Michelin buffet later, it’s on you.”
…
I didn’t dare listen to what else they said. By the time I left the toilet, my hands and feet were cold. I wanted to storm in and grab them by the collars for a good fight.
But what would that change?
I’d still be the ‘come get me’ guy they talked about, a joke compared to Nian Hua, just fodder for their gossip.
Chi Jin noticed I was zoning out and waved a hand in front of my face. “Hey, it’s almost our turn.”
I snapped back to reality and nodded absentmindedly.
“When it’s our turn, you do the gestures, and I’ll guess. If you can’t express it, just skip. Got it?” Chi Jin instructed.
I nodded again.
Seeing my lack of enthusiasm, Chi Jin asked, “What’s wrong with you?”
I looked up at his face, partially obscured by the mask, and pressed my lips together. “Mr. Chi, can you do me a favor?”
Chi Jin didn’t expect me to ask for help and was immediately intrigued. “What do you want me to do?”
I took a deep breath and said, “I want you to… find a way to end my relationship with President Song.”
“End your relationship with Song Yu? What do you mean? You don’t want to be his personal public relations anymore?”
“Yes!” I replied firmly.
Chi Jin frowned, not agreeing immediately. “That’s a bit tricky. It’s between you and Song Yu. If there’s going to be a breakup, it should come from him. I can’t really intervene.” He shrugged, looking indifferent.
“I know, but I can’t think of any other way.” I pleaded with him, hoping he could help me.
Initially, I agreed to stay by Song Yu’s side and work for him in exchange for him clearing up the issue with Wang Li’an. So I had no reason to leave him on my own. But if Chi Jin helped, my chances would be much better.
After all, his father is the real boss of Huanya.
Chi Jin thought for a moment and then smiled. “While I can’t directly end your relationship with Song Yu, I have other ways to ensure there’s nothing left between you two.”
I looked up, my eyes bright with hope as I gazed at him…
