After Divorce, My Ex-Wife Became My Creditor - Chapter 51 - Conflict Escalation
As the time to clock out arrived, everyone was tidying up and getting ready to leave when Yang Jia suddenly appeared, holding a string of AD Calcium Milk Drinks in her arms, sipping away. Behind her was a little girl around five or six years old. As the little girl walked into the General Affairs Department, Liu Jiulong stood up with a doting expression and approached to hug the little girl. Unfortunately, the little girl was not very accommodating; she softly called out “Grandpa” and clung tightly to Yang Jia’s stockinged leg.
Han Qian curiously looked at Yang Jia, then at the little girl, noticing some resemblance. Could it be…
“Yang Jia, is she your daughter?”
“Bah!”
Yang Jia made a face at Han Qian and pouted.
“No wonder General Manager Yan scolded you all afternoon. Qian-Ge, your eyesight is really questionable. I’m a budding flower yet to bloom, where would I get a daughter? She’s my niece!”
Su Liang chuckled from the side.
“Yang Jia, you have no chest…”
Before he could finish, Han Qian bumped into him, frowning.
“There are kids here, don’t talk nonsense.”
With that, he squatted down, opened his arms, and smiled with squinted eyes.
“Little Beibei, come let Uncle hug you.”
By now, little Beibei had finished her AD Calcium Milk Drink and was looking up pitifully at her aunt, holding onto her aunt’s hem. Seeing that little Beibei ignored him, Han Qian stood up and snatched a bottle of AD Calcium Milk Drink from Yang Jia’s hand, disregarding her murderous glare, using it to tempt little Beibei.
“Beibei, come let Uncle hug you, and then Uncle will buy you some treats.”
Little Beibei was truly adorable, with a round, chubby face, large eyes like black gemstones, and a cute little nose that wrinkled charmingly. Yang-Jie herself didn’t dress up much, but she certainly didn’t hide her aesthetic sense when it came to her daughter. Blue denim overalls and a hat with little antlers made little Beibei irresistibly cute.
However, the little girl did not approach Han Qian, instead clinging to Yang Jia’s leg and softly asking, “Are you Daddy’s relative?”
This question made Han Qian pause slightly, then he shook his head and smiled.
“I’m Mommy’s friend.”
“Then you should be called Uncle. You can only hug me for a bit, or Mommy will be angry.”
Little Beibei slowly approached Han Qian, opened her small arms, and hugged his neck. Just as Han Qian was about to lift the little girl, she spoke again.
“Uncle…”
Han Qian quickly handed over the AD Calcium Milk Drink to little Beibei, but the little girl turned and ran back to Yang Jia, squatting down to drink her milk as if nothing had happened. This scene made Han Qian smile helplessly, realizing he had been tricked by the little girl.
Yang Jia shrugged at Han Qian, pouting.
“She’s just timid like that, tricks for food and then runs. How about you buy me some treats, and I’ll let you hug her?”
Han Qian stood up and quickly shook his head in refusal.
“No, can’t handle it! I don’t have a niece as big as you.”
Su Liang, eager to try, rubbed his hands and laughed.
“Yang Jia, I can do it!”
“I don’t have an uncle as small as you, get lost.”
Qian Wan also joined in, laughingly asking Su Liang if he wanted a hug, she might consider it. Su Liang shook his head vigorously in refusal, muttering about how last time he asked Qian Wan to help bring a bottle of water, he ended up being dragged to play games for an entire afternoon.
Though the girl was nice, Su Liang definitely wouldn’t do such brain-draining tasks again, especially since the game was entirely in English, making it incredibly cumbersome to operate. Qian Wan pouted, magically pulling various snacks from her pocket, causing Yang Jia to abandon her AD Calcium Milk Drink. However, these snacks were meant to tempt little Beibei.
Then Qian Wan hugged little Beibei and returned to her computer, saying that playing games should start with children.
Ten minutes later, little Beibei escaped Qian Wan’s clutches because Yang Lan returned. Yang Lan frowned at little Beibei, then scolded Yang Jia for bringing her over, saying she was supposed to stay on her side. Yang Jia pouted, saying she was off work and came to find her to leave together. Yang Lan frowned but said nothing, turning to the members of the General Affairs Department and clapping her hands.
“Everyone, don’t rush to leave yet. During the meeting just now, the company’s upper management expressed significant concerns about the General Affairs Department. They’ve also issued some tasks and instructions, mainly to assist the Marketing Department and Project Department in completing the plan for the airport land. Additionally, starting next week, members of the General Affairs Department will form groups of three to investigate the renovation company and the developing community to understand their current market material needs.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the General Affairs Department was filled with sighs and complaints. Li Dongsheng, who was already packing up to leave, leaned back in his chair and frowned.
“Yang-Jie, we work here every day, Siguan and the others are busy running around, it’s our duty to work, and that’s fine. But I’m not convinced. Why is it that Han Qian is nowhere to be seen all day, comes and goes as he pleases, and doesn’t seem to do anything? Your favoritism is a bit too much, isn’t it?”
Yang Lan was momentarily speechless. She had indeed been too lenient with Han Qian lately, with his tardiness, absenteeism, and skipping work. But now, Yang Lan didn’t know what to say. Just as Han Qian was about to retort, Wu Siguan, who seemed like a little maid in the General Affairs Department, suddenly spoke up.
“Dongsheng, this plan was all done by Qian-Ge. When he was busy running around before, he didn’t ask us to help with anything either. The tasks were assigned to Yang-Jie by the higher-ups. I’ll do your work, don’t make things difficult for Yang-Jie.”
Li Dongsheng frowned at Han Qian, his gaze turning colder. He sneered, stood up, and left. As he passed little Beibei, he stomped heavily, scaring her so much that the AD Calcium Milk Drink in her hand fell to the ground.
Seeing this, both Han Qian and Yang Jia were furious. Han Qian stepped forward with a cold face, despite many people telling him not to provoke Li Dongsheng. But Han Qian couldn’t tolerate it; his good temper was reserved for those who treated him well.
His shoulder was held down by someone, and Han Qian turned to find it was Liu Jiulong, who shook his head at Han Qian. At this moment, Yang Lan also stepped forward to block Han Qian.
This Li Dongsheng indeed couldn’t be provoked.
Han Qian let out a cold snort, stepped forward, picked up the frightened little Beibei, and gently said, “Uncle will take you to the supermarket, don’t bother with idiots.”
This time, Han Qian didn’t care if there were children around. Li Dongsheng turned to look at Han Qian, sneering contemptuously.
“Broke ass.”
Li Dongsheng left, and Han Qian also picked up little Beibei. The group left the General Affairs Department, and as they entered the elevator, Wu Siguan softly said, “Qian-Ge, Li Dongsheng is just like that, don’t bother with him. His mom spoils him excessively.”
“Thank you.”
Han Qian wasn’t in a good mood at the moment, not in the mood to care about Li Dongsheng’s family affairs. Little Beibei clung to Han Qian’s neck, her little head buried in his chest, clearly frightened. As they exited the elevator, Qian Wan jogged to catch up, playfully saying, “Qian-Ge, you help me play games, and I’ll help you deal with Li Dongsheng, okay?”
“No need.”
